From: Aimee Weber The whole "reluctant leader" thing really is a valid point. Though the "disinterested leader" thing never seems to pan out I'm just surprised because this is the first position I have ever seen where some level of enthusiasm for the job WASN'T a requirement! There were SOOOO many people who really wanted to pitch in and offer their services for free. Yet they were passed up in favor of people who either weren't paying enough attention to the forums to even know that the program existed, or people who KNEW it existed but weren't interested enough to sign up. Sounds like someone is jealous. I'm glad the 'regulars' in the forums were not selected for the job, ya know...the ones that constantly belittle and disagree with CoCo no matter what she says. I hope the new forum mods are fair and can see who the true trouble makers are in here.

If they dont' do their job, the forums remain insane. Lose, lose.

Just F.Y.I. - I have already paid all of the chosen resident mods to continually disagree with anything Coco posts. So the status quo will remain safely in effect.

From: Kelley Honey Sounds like someone is jealous. OH SNAP! TOUCHE! Actually I haven't complained once about the folks selected. Pendari Lorentz, for example, is certainly a better selection than me. Regarding my feelings towards passing up enthusiastic and qualified applicants in favor of folks who ware unaware, uninterested, and barely even playing SL anymore ... "jealous" is not as accurate a word to describe my feelings as "astonished." From: Kelley Honey I'm glad the 'regulars' in the forums were not selected for the job, ya know...the ones that constantly belittle and disagree with CoCo no matter what she says. I certainly don't think "disagreeing" with somebody should be disqualifying factor. "Belittling" however, is not nice which is why I don't do it. From: Kelley Honey I hope the new forum mods are fair and can see who the true trouble makers are in here. Here we agree 100%

Albeit slightly off-topic, I'd like to post to this thread and clarify in case it was unclear from the initial announcement - the first round of Forum ResMods will be in the pool for 2 weeks, then new Residents will be rotated in. The goal is to create an ever-changing pool of people who are interested in helping make the forums a better place through their ongoing positive participation. The hope is for this volunteer pool of ResMods to grow and change over time - with the introduction of new Mods every 2-3 weeks. This is why only 15 people were chosen and others, who meet the criteria, will be added at a later date.
Along with those who volunteered, the community team considered active forum posters and chose several who whose posts met the selection criteria, posted below:
Resident Moderators Selection Criteria: - Must be both an Second Life Resident and forum participant for at least 3 months - Write thoughtful, constructive posts - Have clean Linden Rapsheet (no warnings/suspensions) - Be peacemakers and know how to use humor to diffuse not attack - Be warm and welcoming to fellow Residents from all walks of Second Life - Clear from past participation that they value positive discussion and will contribute to the overall tone of the Second Life Forums
Everyone who was selected for the pool has the option to NOT participate. If they don't participate they will be removed from the pool, if they do choose to partcipate, they can remain.

See I didn't know that! I would have made a terrible resmod! But the qualifications of the folks selected is absolutely not in question. I hope you didn't feel you had to defend the fitness of these people because I honestly think they are a dream team. The question is about the practice of passing up qualified applicants in favor of people who are (albiet very qualified) unaware of the mod program, uninterested in it, and who play SL and visit the forums infrequently.

C'mon ResMods, time for our first banning! -Flip

Who is this "community team" of which you speak? Listen, strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony. Oh, but if I went 'round sayin' I was Emperor, just because some moistened bint lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away. In fact they have... more than once!

Volunteering people publicly who did not offer themselves up for this task is bad form.

Wait!!!
OK ... I really thought the way the Lindens went about this whole things was ...uh... well.. EL STUPIDO...
BUT! I just thought of a model that may explain the mentality behind the resmod selection process... JURY DUTY! You are selected based on some base qualifications to serve in the justice system whether you like it or not (but of course LL can't make service manditory.)
Is this what you had in mind Jeska? If so, perhaps you should do away with the volunteering system and select randomly.

Since we can't stop trying to model our rules after RL ones, I think that those amongst the "volunteered" who refuse to fulfill their civic duty should be held accountable. Jeffrey, off to the cornfield with you!
