Linden Lab Needs YOU!

If you are a member in good standing of the Second Life community
and have absolutely no interest in being a resident forum moderator...

Then Linden Lab wants YOU to be a resident forum moderator!!!

To apply for the already vacated positions available, simply show your complete lack of interest by not posting below

(complete obliviousness to this thread and the resident mod position a plus!)

:D

Meeee :) I am not interested in being a forum moderator :D

But it does make sense at some level - you want moderators to be people who are impartial and level-headed.

It's kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy, some of the people who applied to be a forum moderator have an active self-interest in having moderator powers. Which isn't to say I think the final list is perfect, but I can understand some of the reasoning in choosing moderators who didn't apply.

So far, two of the other resmods I've spoken with, were also nominated, and didnt volunteer, so I wouldnt be suprised if the majority were nominated by LL for this round.

The whole "reluctant leader" thing really is a valid point. Though the "disinterested leader" thing never seems to pan out :D

I'm just surprised because this is the first position I have ever seen where some level of enthusiasm for the job WASN'T a requirement! There were SOOOO many people who really wanted to pitch in and offer their services for free. Yet they were passed up in favor of people who either weren't paying enough attention to the forums to even know that the program existed, or people who KNEW it existed but weren't interested enough to sign up.

The people that have fessed up to being picked seem like very reasonable choices to me.

I really hope LL avoids choosing any forum whore types.

They are ALL outstanding people and they far exceed any requirement for the position. Well, provided they actually WANT the position. On the other hand there were outstanding people who far exceed the requirements who actually signed up for the position.

It's an interesting situation. I'm flattered to be chosen, honestly, along with the kind words.

But on the other hand, I suspect it's a lot of thankless work that the notecard phrased would be a commitment. While I'm on the forums way more than I should be, I'm also a full-time college student that has way more on my plate than I arguably need. I don't want this to be my second job.

It's also a clout thing. I enjoy not being in the position of power here, just having a discussion. I have no want, or need, to be forum cop. Being "volunteered" for the position outright only adds to this.

So, while I wish those going for it luck with the position, this is one I'm most definitely sitting out. I hope it proves successful! But ehh... I think I like things the way they are for me.

Maybe LL is trying to send out a message to the community, these are the people you should strive to be.

I know I have always looked up to Max Monde as an ultimate community role model. Good choice, LL!

I thought people were to volunteer, not some kind of favoritism nomination by LL...but then again, what do I know...

Honestly, (and this shouldn't be construed as a reply to anyone here, just the topic in general) I have to say that this has been a huge pain in the ass. The way in which the selections were announced makes me far less likely to want to agree to do this, simply because I wasn't asked before it was offered.

To all the people who have been messaging me about this: Yes, I am aware that I was picked, no, I didn't know about the program, and no, I didn't ask for it. I don't know why I was selected. The LSL wiki? Blackmail snapshots? Ask the Lindens, not me.

Seriously, I'm not in world much these days. I don't read the forums except when someone points me to a post. I'm not a good choice for this, and I just wanted to let you know that I'm well aware of this.

Those who are good aren't interested and those who are interested aren't good.

Isn't that the rule?

Obviously. So the real conclusion to draw is 'No good will come of this'.

I have to agree.

I have an absolutely huge amount of respect for Jeska and a lot of these folks are excellent choices but what was the point of asking for volunteers if the majority of these people did not ask or want to do it?

What's also odd is that to be honest, a couple of these names are people that are... well, *less* than impartial.

I see at least one name that's not only quite argumentative and has torn a piece off of many a forum poster but has also made a bit of a spectacle of themselves a couple of times.

Even Aimee can do that! (joke)

It makes me think of excellent choices like Margaret Mfume, who backed out of her own accord (and encouraged others to do so), because she *technically* received a slight warning once for repeating something barely worth mentioning.

She is a saint in comparison to some of these, please consider her for the next round (even if she didn't volunteer).

I must find this evil doppleganger 'Max Monde' and kill him.

Oh, you meant *me*!!

The only role I provide is worship of shiny objects, imbibing large amounts of Stella Artois, and a singleminded pursuit of lovely women.

Forums?

No thanks. Also, work on your sarcasm, my meter picked up this transparent example a few kilometers away.

Have a great post! KTHX BYE.

The logical answer would be to look among users who have nothing to do with the forums.

Does this surprise anyone? :p
LL has a huuuge history of hiring people at random just because they LIKE them, even if said people don't actually have any real skill or motivation and even if they don't end up being particularly useful. So if you want to be a Linden, instead of having a mile-long resume or being known for your drive and talent, all you need to do is suck up to them.

It might be a "hire" if it weren't for an extremely distasteful, demanding task that is sure to get some people irritated at you, and if LL offered compensation.

As it is, they've appointed a group of people without their acceptance or notification, a third of whom have formally declined this kind offer which means that the next round should include Grimmy and other luminaries.

Which - in my mind - raises the question, can these folks create a balloon without using lead as a primary construction material?

How about Harriet Miers? I hear she's got some time on her hands and is "good people".

Ouch, I just spent an hour locked in a logical paradox regarding this post. You have been reported for griefing me in this manner.
