My question is... how long will these moderators last.
My experience with Usenet II was that the majority of people who have the ability to do a good job don't have the time to do a good job.

Let Siggy be the head of the moderating team, and pick three people who have posted in the past week, at random, per week to join him with for moderating powers.
I'd really look forward to a Ulrika as moderator week, or a Magnum as moderator week, or a wuvme as moderator week, or a Zoey as moderator week, or as Aimee as moderator week, or a... me as moderator week! And all for different reasons!
The moderators in this scenario should be able to do whatever they want for that week without consequences other than the revenge they will feel when it someone else's turn to moderate. Siggy will have the final say in all matters!
What do ya think?
Regards,
-Flip

From: Maxx Monde The only role I provide is worship of shiny objects, imbibing large amounts of Stella Artois, and a singleminded pursuit of lovely women.
Hmmm, and I've always considered you to be the "voice" of Second Life. Maxxcast rocks!

OK! I want to give special thanks to everybody who didn't participate in this thread! After carefully reviewing the names of everybody who didn't post here, we have finally settled on the following people to fill the vacated resident moderater positions:
Jimmy Carter Mother Teresa King Solomon Yoda Ulrika Zugzwang Benjamin Franklin
Now, we know many people on this list are uninterested in the resmod position. We know some of them are dead. YES we know some of them are actually fictional characters! But we will not let these details stand in the way of selecting the BEST res mods we possibly can to fill these postions! For those who didn't try, better luck in the next round!

And everyone knows that all the others, except for Jimmy Carter, really exist. I'm so glad I posted in time before the decision was made, but shouldn't Ulrika be disqualified as she was mentioned in the thread? That seems AWFULLY CLOSE to "showing interest" to me. Happy 300th, Ben Franklin!

Benjamin Franklin would have none of this. If he were here, he would say,
"Those who trade liberty for delicious, incomparable drama will have delicious drama but not very much liberty."

A great disturbance in the forums I sense. Appropriate for even off-topic this thread is not. Locking this thread, I am! Copied below the forum policy is! Dark side - Please refrain from using the dark side of the forums. At any time Linden Labs withholds unmitigatable rights to own you all, take all your virtual land and money, and laugh at you harshly. Don't phuck with the dark side.

Lecktor ... if you are not even interested enough in the forums to keep up on what's going on... Then you would make a GREAT Resident Forum Mod! Welcome to the team!!

Yay for LL. Better to select uninterested people than people who are not fair. I didn't volunteer because I would ban everyone and beg forgiveness the next day.

If those were our only choices I agree. But did we really have so few volunteers who were: 1. Paying attention to the forums (and knew about this program). 2. Interested enough in the job that they would put their name in the hat. 3. Had a clean record. 4. Generally deemed fair. 5. Are still actually playing Second Life from time to time. It boggles my mind that some great folks were being passed up in favor of people who barely play and had no idea or interest in the resmod position.

I guess it comes down to; Why did LL ask for volunteers if they were just gonna select who they wanted to anyway?
And as some that were suddenly selected, without volunteering or even knowing about the program, they don't even read the forums much. I don't want the job, and the list of folks they selected does look pretty good to me, but why feed the flames of conspiracy and favoritism by selecting non-volunteers??

Next time I recommend Linden Lab do the following for internally nominated candidates. 1. Contact the candidate and explain to them privately what they have been nominated for. 2. Privately obtain their acceptance. If they don't accept, move to the next internally selected candidate. 3. If they DO accept, ask them to (as a formality) publically post that they are "volunteering" for the position and hope they get selected (bwa ha ha ) Or better still ... Select candidates from the qualified and interested volunteers!

For the record, I did volunteer. I mean, at least now my "Forum Police" outfit is legit!

After reading the forums and blogs at least one is a well know outspoken ALT who has been anything but fair in these forums. Took me all of 10 min. I'm no fool "Mr. or is it Mrs.?" one can never be completely sure here. I agree with Aimee, Diane, Catherine O, and Eggy.

I didn't volunteer because there was no indication that I would be able to ban Cory Edo, which was a deal breaker for me.
