I am left speechless by how awesome the pictures for the 2.0 engine look.
I'm also stunned by the amount of junk...er... skyboxes in the sky, I guess people will have to find others ways to hide after 2.0

I really had no idea how much stuff we have floating over our land. When I first saw it in the screenshots, I thought it was visual artifacts. I guess most of this stuff is above 300 meters, which is why I'm not ricocheting off of it like a pachinko ball. I wonder if some of that crap is stuff I sent orbital while building?

The 2.0 renderer really makes the building tool limit of 768m and the set home position/offer teleport limit of 255m seem silly. _____________________

Just imagine if you could "sit" on an object outside of your region.

There's some pictures stuck to the bottom of the benches in the welcome area but I'm not sure if they have already been posted.

view distance increases with altitude?
10-05-2005 09:05
All those 2.0 shots seem to be taken at altitude. Here's a thought. Maybe the 2.0 engine is capable of great view distances at high altitude, where the engine can greatly reduce the level of detail for distant objects. Maybe the view distance decreases while on the ground. Just speculating.
Hey, LL? How bout some more renders? _____________________

The 1.7 map images are part of the 2.0 rendering engine. Feast your eyes and enjoy.

I kinda like all the stuff floating in the sky. Would be nice if the outsides were prettier though, more sky builds in this vein would be better. It kind of reminds me of why some people say they don't eat healthier: 'cuz they don't see their insides. In the same vein, if skyboxes became more visible, at least some would be compelled to beautify and customize. I can't see it being uniform but any self-improvement is welcome. _____________________

How much of SL is uniform? I think that's half the fun of it, never knowing what you'll run into. What I am worried about, though, is huge floating billboards above every shop. You're right—that statement was atypically un-ME, just a general provision. I am a watermelon trickster. I just hope we'll have many more diverse people in SL who will be choosing to put up other things instead, realizing how so much noise and little signal means few sales! ![]() _____________________

I posted a thread in Linden Answers and the response was that the super long draw distance thing looked good on paper, but proved impractical to integrate with other pieces of SL, and that we should be on the lookout for other things like FPS improvements. (Since then we've got object-to-object occlusion and local lighting that works pretty fast.)

What Phoenix? You have the sources... and come to this result?
![]() I don't have them but I would guess... unsigned short USHRT_MAX 65.535 unsigned int UINT_MAX 4.294.967.295 ... with one of these limits there is plenty of room left and all the residents should insist on maxing it out to the limits. Though I would prefer a 1.∞ version as it simply looks a lot better. Leff. |
