I like the added depth! It will be interesting to see what happens to all of the floating builds in the sky now that most people will see them. It's possible that it will encourage mroe terrestrial builds.

Actually, Moopf, yes, there are times I wish I could cut the depth down to 25 metres without having to go through my preferences.
But I rarely find the rendering at those distances to be a problem, as it's usually just a factor of the textures at that point and how well things have been built. Though, I guess, some cool shadow / lighting effects would be nice. _____________________
Taken from The last paragraph on pg. 16 of Cory Ondrejka's paper "Changing Realities: User Creation, Communication, and Innovation in Digital Worlds :
"User-created content takes the idea of leveraging player opinions a step further by allowing them to effectively prototype new ideas and features. Developers can then measure which new concepts most improve the products and incorporate them into the game in future patches." |

Though, I guess, some cool shadow / lighting effects would be nice. Lighting is in real need of an update, lessening the impact of limiting rendering detail the more you zoom out of something (land, for instance, changes its shape as you move away or towards something, cutting into prims, or leaving gaps, discs etc. basically turn square as you zoom out etc.). Those rendering improvements, rather than the client having to render more prims by the draw distance being so large, would make a huge impact to the local environment. I'd like to be able to zoom out from my immediate area and not have prims turn all ugly on me after a few metres and I'd like lighting to be more realistic as well ![]() |

Welllll... there is more to the 2.0 renderer than drawing a long long ways, but no screens of that yet. (except in some you can see early speedtree prototypes)
btw, first person in world to find me gets a free clue. _____________________

i want to know what kind of frame rate they're getting with that much distance visible. i dunno about it.....seems like in a video game fog is nice for telling what's farther away. it's hard to know how far things are in those pics because it's so clear. there goes my depth perception.

I *love* the views! That's *always* been my beef with video games people get all excited about... nothing ever looks like RL 'cause you can't see nothing far!
This is *way* more impressive than some fancy-schamncy Playstation or XBox fancy graphics that just look flashy up close but are still part of some hollywood stage set video game maze! /me gets out form under the table and goes looking for more cookies... _____________________

Awesome. Seeing the terrain off to the horizon will really improve the sense of being in an open, physical world and remind me that something is on the other side of the hills. It will be sweet to see Mimas rising in the distance. I don't know if I'll be that interested in buildings three sims over, but who knows.
I guess skybox owners are going to have collect some sky textures. _____________________

those pics are awesome. i love the complete disorder in on of the pictures. it's so chaotic it's almost reordered. "ordered chaos." i'm so completely out for zoning now.
ben, what are your workstation specs? i hope it's not 64-bit dual processor hp workstation with 16 gigs of ram and an 8 videocard array. ![]() _____________________

That's a wonderful way to put it. I like "ordered chaos" tons. ![]() I may have to post something else later that I don't think has been shown here yet. So... yeah. _____________________

Let's try one simple calc:
I usually run 256M draw. The max is 512. If they've upped the max to say 1024 which is what the shot towards Gibson looked like then you may well be able to double your current normal draw and keep the current frame rate. Or keep your current draw distance and get *double* your current frame rate. If any of the other special effects are equally enhanced we can turn them all on with practically no penalty. Speculation only. L8r, UU |

Hmm.. I wonder if the clue has anything to do witth "Blue".. teh screenshot on the back of the card is tinted blue, kinda, and the island Ben stood on has blue patches, too.
I know there is a SIM named Blue.. and one named Blue Stones.. Anything else in that regard? |

Login screen looks like Dore looking East with objects turned off and trees added. Hey, you're right. The splashcreen snapshot *is* taken in Dore. You can see the rectangular pit under NexusPrime on the right and the lake in Ahern. Nifty. _____________________
