the distance is REALLY interesting to look at, definitely. It will be fascinating to see how this changes the way people build in the sky! It will be a cool thing to be able to turn on, if it doesnt hit performance too badly. NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!

i'm wondering, besides draw distance, which LL can control, what's so special about these images? couldn't i just hack my client and turn up the draw to 1000 m2? hasn't hank already done that?

Other pics. I saw the clue and went to the Telehub in stillman and a couple of seconds later ben shows up. And places this.

And if it wasn't for them meddlin autoreturnin kids, it would have been there before.
and jauani - the differnece is that with the screenshots so far, SL is actually usable in real time, even though you can see the snow sims on the horizon.

Color layers. The one in Ross seems to be the green layer. It is a pain to align them in photoshop from a screenshot, tho.

The 3 telehub pics in RGB color layers... I *think* i have them in the correct layers. It's hard to tell thought because I couldn't get the snapshots lined up perfectly. At least the sky is blue and the ground is .. not-so-blue..

Now put on your red and blue 3d glasses!! Good enough for me You know, it is funny to watch new residents put cabins on theri heads in the welcome area - but somewhat enlightening if they texture them right....

good job steven. edit:crap, sl crashed. edit2: Crashed again in the welcome area. Well in the welcome area ben told that it had to do with media. And here his clue was it about something rezez above your head. So i asume that we have to rez something from the library and that plays the media. Put can't test it. Welcome area is always very slow for me. And it crashes as well.

Was it just a random object with the default texture?

The clue SteveR and I where working on was the cabin newbie area, what I think it was, was a default media texture for media playback (the library player) and thus... heh, any object would be able to play it with that, thanks Steve for taking over on the clue I was on.

unfortunately, the WA clue was crashing people - and since crashing new users in the welcome area is frowned on in the office, I disabled it. As was found, each corner had a streamed image that could be seen when you wore a default media texture. ben I will give this one to you guys for free then

I did think it was funny that I got a movie control flying over the welcome area.

yea, thanks. i think my crash problem had to do with that. ------ • Second Life may crash if you assign a movie to a texture on in About Land, but don't actually use that texture on an object. The crash is not immediate -- it often occurs 30 seconds later. To avoid this crash, first apply the movie replacement texture to an object, then select the texture and URL in About Land. This bug is fixed in Second Life 1.6.1 ------

Hmm, odd... My pic was only a portion of the whole thing, even though I had the texture set to 1x1.

K, I'm impressed with the number of prims that can be shown at once, however...
Object loading in SL seems to be dependant on what you're looking at and what you can see. If you can't see it, SL won't load it. Likewise, if you can see it, SL will start loading it whether you want it to or not. It's not too much of a problem now, but I know I have a frustrating time with teleporting somewhere and ending up facing the "wrong" way, resulting in my client loading up parts of the world I don't care about.
With a draw distance capability like that, I can forsee my client loading up something that I don't care about for MINUTES before it starts deciding to even start loading up the stuff I want to see.
I hope that somehow, object loading is being improved as well.
'course, the fact that SL seems incapable of utilizing anything more than 1/3rd of my actual bandwidth probably doesn't help either.

I think that backend work is why we don't yet have the 2.0 engine, after all, what good is seeing 100 sims away if we can't download that 100 sims at an efficient pace.
LL's working on making the data system more efficient in preperation for this, I believe.
