On or about Feb 15, 2006, a new new feature was quietly added to SL without announcement or fanfare. Well, at least I didn't see an announcement, but its so damn exciting that I wanted to make sure others know about it!! We can apparently now create our own last names for our group and/or business! Look up the ACS group, with its army of members created on Feb 15! I am attaching a pic of part of the list of members from the inworld directory just to give you an idea of this new feature. The entire list is too long to appear on one directory page. Another feature I find exciting is the limitation on the number of accounts that can be owned by one household seems to have been eliminated, AND that ominous warning against sharing accounts seems to be gone too!! So members, put on your thinking caps and start coming up with your choices for your group surname. I wonder how we submit our applications for the name choice? Does anyone know how the rest of us can get this accomplished?

I may be totally off base here, but I seem to remember something at a town hall or something a while back, where this was speculated on. I seem to remember it being discussed with the custom referal stuff and being able to build your own welcome areas.
This really would be smart from a recruiting stand point.

Hmm. Why not ask Anshe Chung? Since the first names in the screenshot include "Anshe" and "Guni," I am reasonably certain that "ACS" stands for "Anshe Chung S?????." P2

There's also the last name PMS already. My lesbian alt SO needs that last name.

Well, that explains the mass resident count increase then! So much for SL's supposed "growth", eh? <chuckle>

Could this be one of those things that the CSL instructors get? They get 25 accounts when they sign up to the program, maybe this is it, and they can pick the last name?
Edit: Oh boy, they are all members of Anshe Chung Studios... *THIS* should be good!

Err... Hmm.. there are 25 with that last name. Either she's scamming the system, or she plans to start an educational program. I pick the former. Edit again: All basic accounts in Second Life are now free to everyone. This means that students can sign up on their own for a basic account for no charge whatsoever. If you'd like us to set up student accounts for you and assign a unique last name for everyone, we will need: 1) the full real name of each student, 2) their email address, and 3) the unique last name you'd like for everyone.

My guess is she's going to try to get in on the casino market, which is the biggest money maker in sl and these will be here casino employees.

Bites tongue...sits on hands. LaLaLaLaLaLaLaLaLaLaLaLaLaLaLaLaLa....
That didn't work.
Seems that when we share our accounts we are breaking a rule and may get banned, but when someone else does it that's OK.
We can't choose our names...but some people can.
We can't sell private islands...but some people can.
Seems to me there is a special set of TOS for some people too.
I think ACS is like Linden, and may indicate employees/hangers on as well as her holiness. Cali

Yes, but anyone should be able to do that if she can. The only way (that I know of) to get 25 with the same last name is to sign up for the educational program, and if she's scamming that, she deserves to be banned, even if she does own 80% of SL.

When a single business entity commands a significant percentage of another business entity's monthly revenue, they start to get special treatment.
I dunno, not too shocking.

I dunno, not too shocking. It may not be too shocking to you but it just shows that capitalism is just like communism (dictatorial communism anyway--not TRUE communism) and can quickly lead to corruption. Just because someone has more (or the most) money doesn't mean they should get more privileges than those who have less/no money.

I dunno, not too shocking. I've given up being shocked by this sort of thing. Disgusted, though, takes harder to get rid of.

I dunno, not too shocking. This also includes sharing and buying accounts... Anyway, Enabran and I need GOP as a last name, who do we cut the check to?

Anyway, Enabran and I need GOP as a last name, who do we cut the check to? The Linden I talked to said sharing accounts was allowed, they just put that part in the TOS so they can't be held responsible and you can't go crying to them if something happens.
