Or you could just read the other current thread where several are mentioned and enlighten yourself.

Trampolines. There used to be trampolines in the welcome area provided by the Lindens in the days of the Ahern Morris boardwalk and Stage IV.

I sent you one.

Oh thats what it was. Thanks. Yeah I've seen these.

Don't see alot of trampolines around. But I sure see a whole lot of stuff that can throw people all over the game.

Tramponlines, certain vehicles, dragon saddles, jump rings (for fun and profit!), consensual fun in Rausch...

Do Ordinal's spring shoes use Push?

Okay so there are....relatively benign uses of llPush...great.

Now how do we keep them from being non-benign? Cause I mean...okay..granted, I've seen trampolines...forgot about them though cause its been a long time.

But again, how many trampolines do I see a day next to how many losers with an orbiter?

Its a sad day when a great social sim like Transylvania has to close its doors yanno.

Most scripts use a slight push when you stand up from a chair so that you don't get "stuck" in the chair.

I have an avatar cannon that uses push and it's fun to play with.

And transylvania was such a lag fest I stopped going there months ago.

Honestly? I haven't (knocks madly on wood) had any problem with griefers /since/ open registration.

I think toggling push should be an option. I find it ridiculous that it hasn't been implemented yet.

Its not a few assholes. Its an army of them.

An unending, unstoppable army of assholes that will never, ever, go away.

In fact, the man hours it would take the Lindens to actually effectively track and perma-ban all these assholes would cost us more than it would cost us if they came up with a way to simply allow land owners to toggle push, or turn off outside sensors.

Half the griefer weaponry in this game uses sensor based targetting. If you negate the ability for sensors to target people, you fix the problem without having to change Push.

How about we nerf just about every single script we have in here. Seeing since someone has a complaint about how they're used anyhow. Someone, somewhere will find a way to use it in a negative way. SO... yesssss lets nerf it all!

I call BS on this one. First, I haven't had any problems with griefers.

Second, if you negate the ability for sensors to target people, half the scripts in SL will become useless.

Have you tried just not annoying people? Maybe then you won't get shot at all the time.

Vares, if annoyance was the sole reason for being griefed, you'd be griefed constantly. ;)

I don't annoy people. I run a business. You're one of my customers actually Vares.

I hadn't had any problems with griefers either til 6/6/06. I've been doing business in Satellite since December of 2005 and never once had an issue with grief.

Now its every other day. Some new asshat shows up and starts orbitting people for no reason other than we asked them if we could help them...or we asked them nicely to put their guns away.

I agree. It'd be great if I could turn off the push when going to places I know are likely to be griefed (sandboxes, certain clubs, certain sims...) and then be able to turn it on when I want to take a drive or use my dragon saddle.

And I agree, it's silly that they haven't just implemented this, since Philip was saying he wanted to give us more control over our avatars. As it is, if we enter certain areas likely to be griefed, we open ourselves up to not having the control to stay on the ground, unless we sit on a prim. You can't sit on a prim and edit appearance at the same time, unless I've missed a new unannounced 'bug/feature/lucky.' Heck changing clothing means standing up, so that shoots that.

My anecdotal evidence argues against your anecdotal evidence. Suzanna's right, there is an army of these idiot alts playing games. Taking away their power to interfere with our SL and putting it in the hands of the residents will go a long way to solving the situation - castrate their power and they will go away.

That wasn't very nice. I'm a pleasant, helpful person in SL and I've been shot and orbited by people who haven't even said a word to me.

To add:

Pushing an avatar off the chair on an unsit so that he won't end up standing on the chair (solid chair) or in the chair (phantom chair)

Okay so we apparently need it for some relativistic uses where it performs minor tasks which could be performed in another way.

Okay, fine.

Then how about a hard coded velocity cap? Is that feasible?

I think greater enforcement of the rules and punishment of the abusers is a better choice.

I could be wrong, since I don't generally deal with that stuff, but I believe there IS a cap already. As I understand it, the problem is that multiple pushes circumvent it.

I think there are probably technical issues with capping velocity. First, if you cap the force that one script can push at, multiple scripts making the same push will result in a bigger push. Different scripts can't be checking if other scripts are also pushing at the same time.

The other option is to cap velocity at the physics engine level. This already happens, we are already capped at 50m/s. However, it caps velocity at a particular point in the physics frame cycle, and seems to allow for huge velocities effectively for one frame before capping at 50m/s. IIRC the capping happens in some function outside of the havok engine, and so getting the cap to work before that one frame at light speed is probably infeasible.
