Thanks to a few lindens
you can now get the names of the person shooting you

This is not PVP abuse reporting but it will give you the name of the ass that is shooting you

I placed a free to copy version here
for any one who wants to know the name of the person shooting them or pushing them.

I would also encourage you to distribute this to as many people as you can.
feel free to place the box at any location you want it will continue to let people take copies since everything is set to free to copy.

I would like to thank
the lindens who made this available

Babbage for making it
and
Nicole for helping and distributing it

added thanks go to
Pol Tabla for making the new more colorful and prettier texture of the box

Thank you, Crucial. I picked one up this morning, and it was pleasant meeting you in-world.

your welcome

but i really did not find it, it was passed to me this morning

and I felt that this needed to be as widely distributed as Avian (humanly) possible.

The thing is, though, that (I am assuming - the script isn't open) that this is a *collision* reporter, which will detect push guns that fire a bullet which pushes you after colliding with you - i.e. most of them, or at least the freebie ones - but not against a lot of other push weapons. This was a problem with the old PVP report system too IIRC. Seems to be the case from my testing it, if there's no collision detection nothing happens.

I'm thinking about a more sensitive design that will also detect whether you've suddenly moved a certain distance and, if so, tell you who was around at the time, give you the option to teleport back and so on.

Yet another resouce-eating script to pack into your Mega-MillionScript-Do-Everything shield.

So what if it takes up resources. If Linden Labs wants to resolve that issue they can change things so such scripts aren't needed. Or are you just upset because you might not be able to shoot people without getting in trouble? :D

My testing confirms Ordinal's work so far. Ordinary and push rounds are detected, but a HUD-based orbiter round was not (the kind that launches you to a billion or so meters and gets you stuck there). If anyone has one of those super duper shieldbreaker guns handy, drop me a line; I want to be a target.

EDIT: lolsbs bullets seem to go right through me..? Also, collision-triggered landmines are not detected by this Linden unit.

I'd like to see the source. I have hit-detection in my Yorick, that I updated last night (hint hint, I need an RL haircut and will make rent by skin of teeth). It's not THAT runtime intensive. A collision event with 'if it hit me faster than x, announce'.

Now... if it can detect pushes without requireing something to impact it, we'd be all good.

I think my position-based one is working but it's hard to tell. I'm trying to get people to shoot me but there's nobody bloody in Rausch, and Jessie is so peaceful these days, bah. I should put on a furry costume and go to a WA or something.

LOL. Just IM me and I'll come shoot you when I get back in-world tonight. It's damn annoying we don't have an on_push or some kind of detection for that.

In the end I had to ask somebody to orbit me. It didn't detect a collision (obviously) but it let me tp straight back with llMapDestination, and had a record of who was around just beforehand.

It's disappointing, that's what it is. I think it was my first day in SL, when I was teleporting around randomly and flying over areas, that I was flying over Jessie, saw a couple of people on the ground, wondered what they were doing and then *bang*. What has happened to those carefree days?

Stickying this thread until we get better measures.

Just also posting to let you guys know in addition to being griefed myself and not knowing who did it, many Liaisons care deeply about this--Live Help, for anyone who was watching, was barraged with frustration over not having "SHOW and KNOW" for PvP Abuse.

TY crucial.

BTW, crucial, to make it even easier to get, do you want to use an "Open" click action on the box so someone can click and drag it out? (In General tab of the edit tools under "When Left-Clicked";). :)

Note to LiveHelp/Mentors, I'm giving away my Yorick free of charge. Either IM me in-world or get one from my signature and I'll pay you back.

By the way, I did manage to get to the stage of trying to test my position change notifier, but you would not believe the weird things that were happening to the world. I'm talking about collisions simply not registering, three or four second delays between even damage collisions and the actual effects of the damage, people being killed by their own bullets and so on. We tried in different sims but it didn't seem to make any difference.

Naturally this rather confused my poor script; there was a really severe problem with the information being fed to it, at times it couldn't even tell when you'd been sent tens of thousands of metres away. I shall try again at some point when the universe is not being completely surreal. I think the basic idea is sound though, and if it works I'll put it out for free.

Idea makes sense. Keep at it.

Yeah, Neural. That's what I'm worried about.

After all, for 3 years now, I've run a combat extravaganza.

Even though I was the major proponent of the increased (explicit/named) ban height and have been pushing LL for anti-griefer tools since 2005, including having conferences with Linden and setting up a real-world roundtable on the issues at SLCC, I'm "worried i might not be able to shoot people without getting in trouble."

Because if there's one thing I love, I love to grief.

Look before you open your mouth, moron.

this is a good step but I have a few issues...

1. I can no longer right click on my avatar while wearing the shield all I get is the shield...for obvious reasons

2. an elevator gave me a whole screen of alerts

That's all..other than that good product.

This is an excellent stopgap until they bring back PVP abuse reporting in the client!
