On another auction-related note, has anybody else noticed that a certain large land baron has been defaulting on her auctions? The Celadon parcel for auction right now, for example. Blanket bidding and then picking and choosing what she wants? Seems like if I was LL I'd be pretty irritated at that. Reading around in these forums, I learned that she's done this before, and been exposed for doing it by several residents. Apparently the Lindens promised to tighten controls to make that sort of behavior less likely, and to watch her more closely. That was a prominent issue over a year ago here, from what I saw. |

AFAIK outbidding people at auction to scare off competitors, and then defaulting on them so you don't have to pay, is a standard tactic for many land barons. |

I think as soon as the auction ends, they should be charged, whether or not they want the sim. They bid on a price, they should have to stick to it. _____________________

Not all are alts, one was a year old and a part of the Live Help and Mentors group =/ The alt seems to have been created in order to create an opposing bid on the auction, thus making it harder for the auction to be reverted. And yes, it seems it's fixed.. the exploit auction pages are no longer accessible ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I don't see what all the fuss is about... LL's just having their Spring 99.9999999% off sale.

No, it isn't. LL set the price of US$1000 for a reason. US$3 is certainly less than their cost for the hardware. US$300 may well be. If LL don't get that money and the sale sticks, then the money for the hardware has to be paid by LL from the money they got from somewhere else. If you're a paying resident.. that means, from your money. Your premium payment, and your tier, isn't just going to keeping SL and your land online, it's going to let someone else buy a sim for next-to-nothing. Read my full post. It -is- on LLs head if they don't institute a minimum bid. there will always be people looking for a good deal.. Get some common sense. The only ones that can make a minimum bid ammount programmed in is LL. So YES it is on their head. |

Not all are alts, one was a year old and a part of the Live Help and Mentors group =/ There's so many problems with people in the Live Help/Mentors group. I asked a question once, and got it answered, but then the person IMed me directly and was *very* rude. I'm not surprised at this, people want to feel special and if you have no records, then you are pretty much accepted. _____________________

The only ones that can make a minimum bid ammount programmed in is LL. So YES it is on their head. It was an exploit. It involved accessing the auction pages in a way that was clearly not intended by LL. |

Then they can charge the base amount of 1000 us$ automatically if a bid is less than that. AGAIN LL's end.

Blanket bidding and then picking and choosing what she wants? Seems like if I was LL I'd be pretty irritated at that. I can't believe this would be allowed. If this is true, I should be able to do the same. As a matter of protest I could outbid and default on every single auction and hold the land market hostage. This is a subsidy by LL for the land baron in question. (Whoever that is.) _____________________

In case anyone missed it:
Yes, it would certainly appear that we have a technical issue with the auctions right now; gremlins in the works. We're working hard to get it fixed, and will post again as soon as we have it resolved. Cheers, Jack Linden _____________________
