Salazar Jack is an extremely imaginative, and prolific creator of a mythology regarding the grids prehistory. It might be worth your while seeking him out DP

The hippos aren't myths, they're real dammit! They're all over the grid, I've seen them! You just have to know how to spot them, or which buttons to press to make them appear. Sometimes they help me with the scripts that people who know me know that I'm an exceptional scriptor. I'm as good as I am because the hippos do my scripts for me while I'm asleep. I'm not making this up, I'm serious!

As for the FIC, they only want you to think they're a myth, but the Eye of Horus is watching them.

Never heard of the Mole People... who are they?

As for more myths, lets see here... One myth is the existance of mature land. it doesn't really exist because all you ever see on mature land is immaturity.

The Backend isn't a myth. It's just incredibly difficult for residents to get to. I have a fast way in that involves a salvaged telehub, but that's restricted to Godswitch personnel

Didn't we already do this?

The Big Myth: Lag. It's not Lag, it's a Linden IT manager leaning on the spacebar!

*wince*

Not at the myth, mind you, but at the word "ko'lar."

(No offense meant to Selene, who I'm sure isn't the originator of the word.)

When I started up this work a man told me about a place in SL.

"Exile From The Cornfield" is its name.
Have someone els heard about it.
It is called to be a prisoncamp?

Lets say there was one. Who came there and why?

This myth transcends SL but hey, its in alot of virtual worlds, chats, and games.

ko'lar

The word doesn't exist -even in Gor-. Its a phonetical aide in pronouncing collar in the dialect of the Gorean culture as presented in the books. Use of ko'lar in place of collar are irreverent and to me, amusing.

Assuming you are talking about myths as in mythology rather than urban legends, I don't know of any, but I was tempted awhile back to invite Neil Gaiman and Rebecca Borgstrom into SL and see what they made of it (in or out of world).

You might find this piece I wrote on my blog of interest, it deals with the idea of oral histories and myth making in Virtual Worlds.

In it I also cite the magnificent piece of myth making by Valdora Grayson, The Great Erase , which is well worth reading over and over.

Dear Ms. Mars,

Thank you very much for your kind words. It took quite a while for me to put my thoughts to paper regarding The Erase. It was made more difficult with the sudden news of the Indonesian tsunami that occured on Earth just as I was finishing my account. Hearing about that tragic event not only brought back vivid memories of my own, but made for many a sleepless night I must say. It was with some reluctance that I posted my letter when I did, for I did not want to add to the pain that was being felt by those affected by that terrible wave. In the end, my hope was that it would help to ease some of the hardships to know that life does go on.

Respectfully, I must take issue with your characterization of what happened to us as "myth making." I understand that some have a difficult time believing that The Erase actually occurred. On more than one occassion someone has come in to the the cafe and listened in disbelief as I've related the events that led up to our return here over two years ago. I assure you The Erase was no myth. It happened. And, I believe, we are still seeing the effects of it today as we take advantage of a second chance at life here in Urtahra.

Regards,

I heard there is a Giant Bean Stalk but I have not seen it.

Also coffee houses disappear overnight and become airports.

SL is a strange place.

But fun!!

I beg your pardon. And I stand of course corrected :)

...from my perspective your story is an interesting piece.
What is "myth making" in a virtual world?
Will we, as we now taking part of "the beginning of the past" also be a part of
"the Virtual Myth".
How will that myth be told, what narratives will force the creation of it?
