To Numerous To Count, All of Them owned at least several Open Space Sims, which did nothing but help folks out of the good will of their Heart! A lot of the folks who lodged there or currently lodge there now, are very innocent in terms of the politics of SL and prices, and they are NOT Materialistic, and are just there to make a home, try and make amends and be at Peace With Themselves and Their Families! and to also help others in doing so, out of the good nature of their heart!

In the meantime the owners of these business and sims SOME are Left, still trying to hang in there but they have had to cut back while at the same time the large amount of people that depend or find homes with these Creators of these beautiful places, have suffered and lost their homes as a result! You Read but Your IQ is Below Average In Comprehension Ass Hole! I read all these heartbreaking stories since this increase was announced, we are still at the old tier i can just imagine what will happen once the increase kicks in As one who "owns" an OS and who has taken endless hours to create my own little paradise i understand the heartbreak of having to give something up you poured your heart and soul into, only those of us who spend time in a virtual world can understand that But what bothers me when i read all these heartbreaking stories from real people about how this increase has brought such hardship on so many is how the LL people seem to be so untouched by all this,it is pure business to them, cold and calculating I just feel so sorry for all the people who got their islands at a price they could afford only to have the rug pulled out from under them so cruelly I think the $95 is at least a more reasonable increase than $125,it should be $95 and no more,i think most might be able to manage that. Many of us pay the $125 already with estate profit and exchange and VAT But in the end i don't think LL really cares about peoples hardships and heartbreaks or the hard work or lovely creations lost in world

Where I live all the sims are closing, that's 13 sims closing before Dec 30th, no set date yet. So I imagine a lot will close or be abandoned closer to Jan 09

What we're seeing is a lot of consolidation, most likely, and sales to other residents. Abandonment would be foolish. Not saying it won't happen, but how much abandonment is there?

Since the announcement sent out by our landlady there are empty parcels everywhere. What used to be a vibrant neighborhood is all but a ghost town. Last night I was the only one there amongst 13sims.
Some of the parcel are occupied, but there would be at least half of the population gone.

4 os = 1 sim
11-17-2008 18:10
From: Jini Hammerer Actually its not open to interpitaation,
Fact 1) it takes 4 open sims to make one sim.
Fact 2) when you combine 4 to make 1 that means 3 from the total count go away.
As you said , LL's number do not give enough information, the only thing you see is the total , not whats actually going on behind the scenes. it could very well be that over 600 islands simply dropped... most likely its a mixture of the two. Well I converted 4 OS to 1 Full Sim. You do lose alot. you are now cramming the space of 4 sims into one. the open feel is gone, the amount of water is gone,(they were sailing and home sims) The feel will be different. So 3 sims were lost. Yes I think you will lose great builds by the hugh number of sims that will be gone in Jan. Its sad

I can't help but think that the consolidation is exactly what LL would like to see. If indeed their hardware is more overloaded by 4 OS sims than by one full sim, converting to full sims may mean that LL doesn't have to invest in more equipment as soon. After all, they won't start collecting the higher tier to pay for new hardware until next year. Just a theory.

I am abandoning my OS..there is no one to buy it. Have no choice. Ripped off by LL for lat time. Sold my full sim and mainland properties. Am going to do my building on another grid...one where there is no corporte greed as of yet. Shame on you LL. How cna you sleep at night? And yes we put lot of time and money into the sims, that LL will not be repaying. Not just the buy in cost but the development costs. Some of these OS were extremely beautiful. That will be lost and the grid according to LL will lok like mainland...Sad.

For a year I had a full sim with my wife Elseamae. On that sim, we ran Magical Freebies and More!!. We purchased the sim for over $1600 directly from LL so we were one of the ones hit with the price reduction when they lowered the full sim price to $1,000. As of September, we got rid of our sim. With that closure, the largest lucky chair shop in SL closed. We had over 3,000 people in our group and handed out almost a million FREE items from the chairs in the year that we were open and were told that we were one of the best places for residents of all ages to go and have fun while getting some decent items and free lindens.
Since then I maybe login once or twice a week to DJ or see who is on but that is a significant drop from the 40+ hours a week I used to spend online. I once was very heavy into SL but now when I play online, I play on World of Warcraft. At least there they listen to their paying customers and actually implement ideas based on customer feedback.
Oh did I mention that WoW also is very good at communicating downtime and issues with customers? Maybe LL could learn a thing or two.

Well, if 12,000 of them were OS sims, they should start to see a loss at around -2000, and by next summer, if they lose more than 4800, it will be a loss at the new rate.
Granted, those are basic statistics, and don't include savings measures from turning off racks of servers which are inactive, but if the market contracts enough, I think they will see some serious hurt long before next summer, potentially more hurt than they saw with the "overburdening abuse" before the original announcement.

The only way LL can lose is if people drop down to a basic account and rent a small parcel of land. That's what I've done and I never invest alot of money in here again. So, if you want to get even with LL don't spend L$, simple as that.

my 4 OS are offline too, i changed my mind about convert them to a full sim coz we cannot trust LL really, the TOS worth nothing for us. I wonder what's next.. more than 5000 items in inventory is abuse of asset server or just a matter of time and the tier for full sims will change too

Currently 883 islands have been removed from the grid, last month there was some 640 islands added at this point in the month, so assuming the same number of islands would have been added this month if things hadn't changed (islands were very popular) then the nett loss of islands is more like 1500 some 4% of the grid. And this is before the increases in price. I for one is keeping my island till the increase and i guess many may be doing this too. This could be the tip of the iceberg.

And this is before the increases in price. I for one is keeping my island till the increase and i guess many may be doing this too. This could be the tip of the iceberg. I own a regular island that I bought in May during the big island sale. I *was* going to buy an OS this December as a Christmas present for my sweetie (she likes boats and water). I also was considering a second full island to provide affordable at cost living for several friends who don't want Mainland, and the set up would be **Reg Island*** OpenSpace *** Reg Island** (that way we could sail the OS between the islands) plus I was gonna get at least 3 full year premium memberships for dear friends to set them up in SL -- I've been Very Frugal this year saving up for a big Christmas Splurge.... -- Well SL can kiss that good bye. I'm just glad they announced their price changes before I did any Christmas shopping. That move of a 67 percent price hike on a MONTHLY EXPENSE has dropped my confidence in SL as a reasonable expense to ZERO. Thus any additional investments I'd have put into SL (probably about 2 thousand us dollars all told by mid 2009 not counting tier which would be that extra 375 a month), will become ZERO. I have my one regular island (shared with friends) at the moment and if regular islands get hit with a similar 67 percent price hike AND reduction of services -- SL will no doubt be kissing good bye to a lot of people willing to make a long term money commitment to SL in terms of land ownership, and premium accounts. Right now I bet a lot of people who were ABOUT to buy islands, full regular ones, Are Not Going To -- because now they are worried that Linden Labs will pull this crap on regular islands next. And let's face it, Main Land isn't that appealing. So instead of a long term stake in SL by buying island (reg or os), plenty of people who were going to be monthly cash income to LL are now going elsewhere. The economy IS tight right now, there is plenty of better things to spend our money on, that won't stab us in the back a few months down the line. I've heard Open Life isn't up to SL standards yet, but it just opened and is ready for upgrading by an influx of talented content creators and a steady consumer base. I know lots of people not remotely interested before this OS thing are now actively checking out Open Life and other 3D worlds. Goodness knows we're already losing lots to WoW because the OS bashing in of their dreams has let them cut the final threads holding them to SL. I think Linden Labs totally screwed up with this move, and it's economic and cyber cultural impact will be far more negative than they planned for. Bliss

Look out for me there ... level 13 and rising after one week I have not played it a while but yes World of Warcraft's population is growing with light speed and I've heard many people in SL actually have started to open accounts there too. Different world but for those who looking for fun with an excellent costumer service they slowly end up spending more time there than in SL. And LL keeps helping people choose that when they make decisions like the recent 66% raise on OS sims. For 15.- USD per month you get everything you need. Hell in WoW you can have a room for no extra charge in any Inn. lol

It dosent have as many options as SL does, but what it does have is stability and a staff that arent out to screw over their customers. It was actually right after I got rid of my sim that I opened my WoW account and I have no regrets at all.
