From: Shockwave Yareach Odd menus appeared while trying to edit the inventory of a prim. Said menus included "Add Friend" and other nonsense having nothing to do with the task at hand.. I think there's really only one right-click menu in SL and that various parts of it are hidden when they don't make sense. If the viewer doesn't know what the object is, you get the whole thing. I've seen this many-a-time when they're having asset problems or when the sim is starting to lose it - you right click on something and you get a menu with 20 or so things in it instead of just the 4-5 that make sense for what you're doing. If the grid/sim is more-or-less happy, I guess this could be an indication of network instability on your end or between you and SL. What do your packet loss numbers look like? What's the pending downloads count on the sim?

From: DragonLord Ethaniel The video card Memory is still not recognized. Limited to quarter of your video memory sure affects the enjoyment of the game with a big hit on performance. Can we get a status on this? Yo definitely can't go live with this viewer until this is fix. Hi DragonLord, Please check out the comment on http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-10463 and see if that provides the explanation to answer your concern. The Texture Memory under Hardware Options is limited to set to 512MB because that is all the Second Life viewer can currently support at this time.

Just testing 1.22.... Results:
- friends in yellow: doesn't work on my (damn slow, below requirements) Laptop, but works on the desktop?! - textures: now load WAY faster (even though still much to slow imho) and the client seams to load those close to the avatar first!). Even more important: the client doesn't take all performance for loading textures, so you can still walk around without a giant lag - esp. that walk-on-loading change makes 1.22 *way* faster on that laptop (64MB texture RAM, so...), but also gives some performance on the desktop - still no option to hide the audio controls :/ - still some strange issues with only the attachments of an avatar are visible, until you run into them.
..so place for enhancements, but way better than 1.21 (ok, not complicate). I hope, it'll be stable too...
Oh, why is the cache size in the GUI limited to 1GB? I won't have a problem with a *much* bigger cache (even 10 or 20GB), and manually increasing it to 2GB seams to have reduced my texture issues even with 1.21 a lot!

Viewer locks, hard drive light solid for 5 to 10 secs
01-27-2009 12:42
Just did some poking around in the JIRA...haven't looked in any log files, but this item VWR-9447 seems to match my issue.
I'm currentlly on 1.22 RC6...but this may have occured prior to 1.22.
The viewer will stall while the hard disk is accessed (hd light is solid) for between 5 to 10 or more seconds, then hd access stops or lessens and viewer returns to normal.
XP Pro SP2 + latest patches, eVGA nVidia mobo, 2GB RAM, 8800 GT, 180.22 driver.
