The sixth iteration of the Viewer 1.22 Release Candidate (RC6) has been released. Please help us to identify any new bugs before it becomes an official download for Second Life.

If you have been using the fifth Release Candidate (RC5), you will now be required to update to RC6, which includes the latest bug fixes. Please keep in mind that participation in the viewer Release Candidate cycle is completely optional. This viewer may be installed along side the official 1.21 viewer.

RC6 includes fixes for several raycasting issues, a fix for VWR-7331 (llMapDestination can't TP to Skybox over 1000 meters, which was made possible in 1.20), and a partial fix for VWR-8503 (Meta-Issue: Textures loading worse in 1.21/1.22). This Release Candidate also includes a number of stability fixes, which make this viewer the most stable release yet. For a complete list of issues resolved, please see the release notes:

http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Release_Candidate/1.22

While we've made many improvements, we still need your help to find crash cases and final feedback as we prepare to release the official 1.22 viewer - very soon! Please download the Release Candidate here and start experimenting:

http://secondlife.com/support/downloads.php#download-Testviewers

Don't forget to report new issues at jira.secondlife.com, and be sure to set the “Affects Version/s” to “1.22 Release Candidate”. We can only investigate bugs that are reported in this way.

It does seem to have reduced the grayness some. :)

http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-7334 New "Cloud-ruth" avatar does not show with zero particle count or when particles are turned off.

Is it impossible to just bring back the old ruth? That is how you make the ruth visible without there being particles...It was fine the way it was, and pretty much anything else is ugly, unprofessional, or invisible.

Same cache timeout - 30-45 seconds and textures are re-downloaded that should be in cache. Up on a build platform @ 3000m, nothing around, just wearing a HUD that displays different texture sets.

Texture loading is definitely improved with even this first batch of changes, the console drops down to nothing in places it should have but rarely did before.

hey!

texture load seems to be much better now, but
i have "render pauses" every 10-30 secs
it feels like a "snapshot" while walking - fps also drops down
sim runs healthy (statsbar) its not a physicsbased rubberbandeffect and its not random i can recreate.

v1.20.17 doesnt have this "bug" it only comes up with v1.21.6 and v1.22.x

Isn't this a known mac-only bug on JIRA?

Yeah, I'm sorry...it's been a long day.

Take a look at http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-7779

where we read:

Many Macs experience these symptoms:
Frequent multiple long freezes sometimes 20-25 seconds when moving the camera forward or turning in most SL environments.
Interruptions become so intrusive that a log off is forced on the user - that is, the pause frequency worsens to the point of almost constant freezing, when SL becomes totally unusable. This point is reached after just 10-15 minutes of logged time.
Avatar population seems to make the problem worse, but it is still seriously bad with very few avatars present.
It seems essential to relog with a cache clear even when that has just been performed recently, to get any respite. Even so, a fresh cleared cache relog sees the freezes return immediately.
It was claimed by some Mac users that disabling VBO would help. I saw no perceptible improvement with these pauses after this was disabled and frame rate was even lower.
Fixed in OS X 10.5.6 update
This problem is resolved with an update to Apple Mac OS X 10.5.6 which can be found here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3194

I'm not a Mac user so I don't know if that fix might apply to your environment. But it seems it's not a 1.22 only thing.

@Maggie Darwin

hey!
thank you for the link, but its not this bug, sadly.
i have a "renderpause" (~ 0.5 sec) every 10 - 30 secs it starts imediatly after simlogin no crash or logout.
as i said all works well, it feels and looks like im walking and make an autosnapshot every 10 - 30 sec
smooth movement - snapshot - smooth movement - snapshot, ...

no problem with v1.20.17 it only happens since v1.21.6 and with all rc 1.22x i have tested

Vwr-8814?
01-22-2009 21:44
I just reviewed the list of outstanding issues. Somehow VWR-8814 has been dropped from the list. The alt cam is still focusing about a meter in front of the AV. The alt cam needs to focus on the AV. This is causing problems in the modeling community who rely on this to make accurate turns. It was mentioned as an issue in a previous release but mysteriously has been dropped.

llMapDestination not fixed
01-22-2009 21:46
I just tried using my map based teleporter to tp to 4095 m. When the map comes up it is still capped at 1000m. I thought this was fixed?

The map still comes up with 1000m in the z box. As usual, if you manually enter a higher destination it will get you there. But the point is, llMapDestination brings up the wrong Z value in the map, capping it at 1000m not matter what you entered in llMapDestination.

It's fixed for me, you might want to stuff platform details and a repro script into JIRA.

Hurrah i no longer wade through a sea of greyness.

Thanks for fixing that one LL.

Any chance of sorting this one too?

Anyone else finding Ctrl-Z doesn't work to undo when building?

EDIT: After relogging and rebooting, Ctrl-Z now works normally again.

hey!

it seems to be this is back for me (imac / mac osx 10.4.11)
https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-92

viewer rc 1.22.6:
fast timers open will show 2spikes in pump every ~20 - 30 sec
Sim Ping 150 - 250
1st at ~100ms
2nd at ~375ms

a friend of mine (imac / mac osx 10.4.11) has noticed the same 2spikes in pump
Sim Ping 75 - 90
1st at ~100ms
2nd at ~185ms

viewer v1.20.17 has also spikes in pump - but at max ~20 - 30ms and dont stall screenrendering (no drop down in fps)

########################
sim runs healthy no lag
total frame time 1.0ms
nettime 0.1ms
physics time 0.0ms
simulator time 0.2 ms
agent time 0.2 ms
script time 0.5ms
########################
are macusers forced to upgrade to leopard (macosx 10.5.6) now
or is there a fix for tiger (macosx 10.4.11)

unable to Undo
01-23-2009 04:06
Noticed a major bug: after drag-copying a prim (or object) Undo and Redo are not available on my mac mini??? A real show stopper for builders!!! Anyone else noticed this?

Further investigation shows that closing the chatbar eliminates the problem (thanks Tom).
There is also a jira for it now:
http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-11581

I sure hope they fix it soon

Yes, Undo and Redo seem to be buggered in this RC, that will make this a non option for building. I'll take slower texture loading over this...

As I posted earlier today this was happening to me when I first installed the new RC. However, they are now working as normal. I have relogged and rebooted since posting earlier and wonder if that might have something to do with why they now work?

It is not 'resolved' with OS X 10.5.6 - unless your Mac has an nVidia card. Macs that have ATI graphics continue to be plagued by this problem.

mmm That was strange. When I tried it last night after installing the new RC, the map came up still capped at 1000 m. This morning it seems to be ok. Who knows?

I wonder if that means it's an Apple (or ATI) issue? Not to play finger-point, but if it really is the same thing, and was fixed for nVidia but patching the OS... I'd imagine that if it were generic to the viewer patching the OS wouldn't fix it. Of course if it's a different failure mode with similar symptoms, then all bets are off.

Just spitballing from first principles here... I really have no Mac expertese.
