Rolling Restart for 1.24.10, Dec 22 and 29-30

Zena -- can you quantify this degredation in performance? What do you mean? Tell me what you're using to measure the performance (script time? time dilation? rez time?), what the results are, and how it differs from what you saw on 1.24.9.

Also, if you can reproduce the difference on a 4 sim/cpu sim on aditi-- where "Second Life Production Server" is on 1.24.9 and "Second Life Beta Server" is on 1.24.10, allowing comparisons -- that would be extremely helpful. NOTE that on aditi, some sims are on class 3 and 4 machines, some are on class 5 machines, so be SURE to indicate which region you do the tests on on aditi (and also tell us the host from "Help:About Second Life" so that we know we're comparing apples to apples.

One possibility: the region "Adriatic" is an openspace running 1.24.10 on a class 5 server on aditi, and "Aegean" is an openspace running 1.24.9 on a class 5 server on aditi. I have enabled building in both regions (although don't make a mess there, and I probably will return objects from both regions every so often).

Anybody: come to the beta server office hours tomorrow at 2PM SLT, if you can, where we can even TP to these various sims and check these things out first hand with me (and I can also tell you which type of host a given region is running on at any given time.)

I visited Adriatic and Aegean on Aditi (thanx for the inv. update). I'll try to make it to the meeting to discuss my observations.

Post what you can about the observations here, or in a JIRA, and we may be able to look into them before the meeting tomorrow. The more you can tell us, and the sooner you can give it to us, the more likely we are to figure out if there's anything to this and if it's something we can fix before 1.25 goes out.

I am a victim of the "missing name" bug. This is not a trivial issue; when my partner looked at her profile and didn't see my name in her Partner field she thought I had left her. We have been through an agonizing few days because of this, and things will likely never be the same between us. Please prioritize fixing this bug and cleaning up the data corruption it has caused.

Dude. Seriously? She doesn't have even that little bit of trust in you? I think there's more to this than a missing name bug. Just sayin'.

We believe we've fixed both the missing name and the database load bugs for 1.25. 1.25 will go back into QA either next week or, depending on available QA resources and the holidays, the first week of January. We'll get 1.25 back on the "Second Life Beta Server" regions of aditi then too. We're *hoping* to do a pilot roll the second week of January and the full roll the third week of January; we shall see.

There may well be more to it than a missing name bug -- and surely there is, but it should be remembered that some people do enjoy happy but precarious relationships through the medium of SL, and some of those people are far less technology-savvy than others. The inner workings and foibles of sims, servers and such are way beyond them, and they assume that what you see IS what you get. Just sayin', too!

why when i'm having a good time, it always crashes, why???i cannot log in. No matter what.... i tried in every way... but it happens too many times..now I'm fed up!!!

The first-half full roll has begun. I'm doing even-numbered hosts.

During the RR, when I don't have another meeting somewhere else, I'll be idling at my Linden Village office, if anybody wants to drop by. Note that since I'm multitasking, I may not respond immediately to anything anybody says.

At 06:27, the first-half rolling restart is about 35% complete.

OK I've never seen this on the other server versions but now if you take too long in any of the upload dialog boxes you get booted out with "There may be a problem with the region..."

Its happened each time I use bulk upload and took a little too long to pick the files to upload. Virgem Haven was rolled about an hour ago. I'll test it further but what is this best logging as and where in the Jira? Viewer or service?

During the rolling restart, some sims are on the old version and others on the new, and the viewer likes to tell you about the difference so you can put on your padded helmet.

My region has been down for 2 hours now. Support said it will be up soon... 2 hours ago.

Which region? I am not aware of any that have been down that long.

Hi Prospero. My region is part of the pilot roll regions and was already running 1.24.10, yet it was restarted today. Can I assume when you do rolling restarts to the entire grid, pilot regions which were already updated are included too?

i just tried my firework on a 1.24.10 sime. it didnt work anymore, on a 1.24.9 it is working.

cant be that complicated, to roll out a working software once a year
