Come on, Linden Lab, a little more up front honesty would seem in order.

Now that Enterprise has broken cover it's time to level with your residents, 'cos we are your income in the distributed SL.

Or am I being naive?

OK Server 1.32.1 is out next week...what the hell were all the restarts this week about then?

Oh, and BTW, a fix for those nasty little trojans that crash PCs would be nice.

Posting about rolling restarts without explanation is really poor communication and PR. I know it isn't that you just don't care, but communication can't be an optional part of the rolling restart process. Sim owners should know what is changing even if it is trivial or security related.

Er, there's a link to the changelog right there in the post? Or do you mean the other restarts that happened in the last few days?

Aside from adding my voice to those who would like to know what the just concluded restarts were all about, I too hope that:

(a) the horrific render times and low bandwidth issues are being fixed in this deploy;
(b) the the 2nd TP right after having completed a TP is also fixed. That's an OLD problem which seems to have reappeared of late.

you know with all the rolling restart, might i suggest to shut down the grid, and make sure everything fully runs, even though with the restarts, it seems like a new one appears everytime. however it's your choice, do what you like to fix up the sim.

once you fixed the grid, then bring back up when you can, and there you go. if some ppl have plans in life, oh well to say sorry for that, as again don't be mean to me on this comment, i'm just making a suggestion, to hopefully that would improve this sim.

That's sorta the way it used to work, a couple/few years ago.

Believe me, and everybody else who remembers 'restart wednesdays,' this new way is better.

For those don't know how to click on the link in the OP:

"1.32.1.138516 (2009-11-12)

* Several simulator crash scenarios fixed
* SVC-4984[c] - PosJump broken in some server 1.32 regions
* Fixed: 'Teleport home' function treats all homeless users as Mature
* Fixed: Feeding llSetBuoyancy a nonexistent number seriously breaks physics"

Personally I like when stuff that is broken gets fixed.

I assumed that the "Behind the Firewall version of SL, "SL Enterprise" was supposed to address the commercial security fears of potential corporate clients.

That would mean, I hope, that LL would be able to improve the SL experience for those of us that use the distributed, inet-wide version.

On the subject of trojans - I find that any firewall that stops trojans also kills SL, at least, that's what happens on my PC. If I tweak my firewall to allow SL through, in come those nasty little programmes. I've not lost anything, but I've been noobed twice now. I know what to look for, but I just can't stop them.

On Rolling Rehashes - now see LL - I'm not alone in wanting an explanation.

Hohum.

Lag
11-14-2009 03:59
The original post isn't very informative. I have noticed significant reductions in frame rates, bandwidth and increased packet loss. Teleporting seems to take longer than usual. Crossing sims with an avatar that is wearing scripts like the MystiTool seems more problematic than it used to. I read a forum thread that indicated the new server doesn't handle mono scripted attachments very well during sim crossings. My viewer crashes more often than it used to. I guess it would be nice if we had some way of knowing for sure that recent server deploys incorporated changes that could possibly be the cause of some of these user performance issues and that LL is actively pursuing fixes.

PosJump getting fixed so quickly was a surprise, considering it's a bug. A pleasant one, but still.

It would be easier to bring back llTeleportAgent than to keep fixing PosJump and WarpMove.

In my humble opinion,
render times,
SL Enterprise,
trojans
are *off topic* here - so I frankly cannot blame Lindens for not joining this thread.

That said, I join the request for more information about the ongoing Rolling Restarts. Thanks.

Would you kindly suggest the appropriate thread whereby I can get the official Linden response to inquiries regarding the potential cause/effect relationship between recent server deploys and general lag; sim crossing lag; low FPS; increased packet loss and other end user performance issues?

This weeks rolling restarts was the saddest and most pathetic lack of communication i have ever seen With LL not only did these rollouts screw up our region.. It didnt come back up after, and has been a living nightmare ever since.
Not only Did Concierge feed us full of lines of lies and misinformation The Product has gotten worse and sometimes now after restarts nothing loads right and have to call Concierge to fix it (with another pathetic restart).Pending downloads 90% of the time now on my region(Just when i tought it couldn't get any worse). I think i spend more time calling and complaining now than actually having fun in SL.
And the most funny thing is Even after a restart we had 27 people on the region and handed Dee Linden a notecard about the issues.. And guess what? Laffs she had to leave our region just to be able to read the damn thing..
The Stress is now starting to not be worth it.

Sim freeze fix????????
11-14-2009 05:34
So.... LL.... When are you going to fix the GLARING sim freeze bug where the sim locks up solid for 5-15 seconds anytime someone TP's in or out with a few scripted attachments. This is a KILLER for busier sims. This bug SHOULD be one of the A#1 top priorities to fix. Sooo....... Where are you in resolving it?????? I mean, the problem has been going on for MONTHS now. It's intolerable!

I totally agree. Can we please stay on topic, and can LL please elaborate on the unusual RR's this past week and any relationship to the RR for next week?

Some people are just not as FIC as they think they are.

Hmm Lets look at why Some posts may be a little off topic.

Maybe because LINDEN is posting here?

Is it possible that those that do post their problems and ISSUES where there might be a SLIM chance that a LINDEN might be listening?
Heh
It is no wonder Lindens wont answer a Slightly off topic post and interact wtih everyone. they don't want to hear it maybe?
lol

I guess the Resident who pays their bills just has too much to say
The fact that these people are what make Sl go around and they want to be heard.
people show their frustration and anger towards what the real issues are and they feel that at the end of the day they are never listened to.. Maybe a good reason?

And Lil doens't control any of that..

Believe me, I'm as annoyed as you are about the problems in SL and I yell at them as much as anybody (/me wonders how often Blue's finger hovers over the Delete Message & Ban blog buttons for her..) but management is the one you need to speak to if you have problems with the priorities they set for the rest of the company.

And yes, I know that Management Linden isn't exactly approachable. That's on my list, too.

Lil is one of the very few Lindens that talks to us here. Be nice!

Heh I am being nice. All i did was explain why and the EXACT reason people will post off topic here. Because there might be a SLIGHT chance that someone from the upper team may be listening.. I don't find my post in any way misinformed and wrong.
It's all fact
You know? It's all about the PEOPLE. And when you stop listening to the PEOPLE, It's all over

All it takes is a simple notecard from a LINDEN to TOP MANAGEMENT about what the people are talking about And what the problems are. How often does it happen? Do you have a clue? Could it be maybe 1%? you will never know and the people don't know either. And when they get ignored Constantly and served with the typical templated answers about performance issues, the natives tend to get restless lol

And My wife had a long chat With Blue Linden the other day and guess what? He fully undertands our frustration and you know what he said? " He will be sending our notecard to Top management" In the 3 years of Developing in Sl that is the first time I have ever seen a Linden Listen.. And Except for DEE Linden who came to listen After we damanded to speak to the Supervisor. They both rock.. Weather it did any good or anyone is still listening we will never know will we?

I asked no questions about SL Enterprise, merely mentioned it as part of my request that LL show greater engagement with residents over issues that could/should be fixed in new server sofware. Render times and trojan protection are a valid part of that issue.

I do not accept that they are in any way off topic.

And as for Lindens joining in the thread to allay suspicion and answer questions - well - perish the thought!
