There's a nasty sim-crasher on the loose that needs to get patched. A fix is currently in QA, and the roll will begin as soon as it passes. I'd estimate that will be around 18:00 PST, though hopefully sooner. Evens & odds will be going at the same time. * 2009-12-31 ~ 18:00: Start 100% sim roll. Apologies for any inconveniences this might have to NYE events in-world. However, I assure you the fix will save everyone more trouble than the roll causes. This roll's theme song is an oldie; in fact, I've loved to hate it for exactly 10 years. Enjoy! EDIT: Shouldn't that be postponed until early morning on New Year's day?

EDIT: Shouldn't that be postponed until early morning on New Year's day? The severity of the issue dictates when we do the roll, as judged by our Support staff. It is unfortunate for many people that this turned up right before NYE. Still, your sim should only be down for ~30 minutes, and that hopefully won't be at 23:59:59. As always, if anyone's sim is down longer than 30 minutes due to the roll, post in here and I will help get it back up and running. |

Security Issue

This is very likely an exploit being fixed. The server code has been stable in this iteration for a while. LL is very aware that this is a major holiday party evening and would not do this tonight if it did not HAVE to be done asap.
Given that it is very likely a security issue, we are unlikely to get any comment on whats being changed other than 'exploit fixed'.

I hope the QA on the fix is more thorough than the QA that allowed the bug to get loose on the grid in the first place.

Look on the bright side... at least your NYE party will have the benefit of a freshly restarted sim. I was actually going to restart our region an hour before the party started anyway, just to be on the safe side.

This is the first time ever that Linden Lab has started rolling restarts that have forced prims to become invisible.
Please explain this? It doesn't matter much if a sim is going to only be down for half an hour or less if half the prims in a sim are invisible even before the restarts reach that sim due to restarts happening on the rest of the grid.
I can understand if it's an emergency, but the cure sure seems to be far worse than the disease to me.
