Putting a Linden appointed rep in every welcome area and infohub with authority to ban griefers would do a lot more to keep new residents from having sex smacked in their faces as soon as they arrive in SL. _____________________

What a great move by LL!!!! I mean...finally!!!! I was ecstatic when they introduced Homesteads and stopped the Open Spaces abuse and now this! It's been a long time coming! To those who are up in arms about all this, as has been pointed out already by a couple Lindens this vocal majority of people against this, really only seems like a majority because of the fact they just complain really loud. In fact as Meta Linden stated, there are a lot of people who are in favor of this, and many of them from the Adult Community! People claiming that LL is using this wide-sweeping policy change as a means to push undesirables out of business and out of SL is ridiculous! Talk about skipping your meds! This is a boon to SL and it *is* about time! And like Meta Linden also said, this change isn't just for the people in SL currently, this is for all the new and future residents who want to come to SL but *don't* wan't to be assaulted by sex at every turn! They've talked to people and companies. And by and far, new residents don't want sex smacked into their faces as soon as they arrive in SL! I mean seriously how many new residents do you think actually come here and want to have virtual sex as soon as they touch virtual ground? And many current residents as well concur! I would say the majority of residents agree with this move, they're just probably not all as vocal about it as the minority that is complaining loudly. I for one, applaud this move by SL. In fact, it wouldn't a bad idea to further segment groups in SL in a similar way! Of course, it would be up to LL to decide who/what was deserving of their own grids but It would be better for them, since griefers would be less likely to travel from grid to grid to harass them and it would also put less stress on SL's servers as well in theory! It has prominent signs saying stuff like: NO BLOOD OR VIOLENCE NO WEAPONS NO NUDITY ...and about five other NO's that I can't recall at the moment. Has anyone considered that this might be a good thing for adult venues, and especially adult business in general? Location = Upgrade Search = Upgrade It would seem that once landmarks get moved, which will be a pain ... but life is a pain sometimes ... that there are no dawn sides to this. Except that if you have an adult business you will only be left with a fraction of the potential customer base. How large is the percentage that has verfied their accounts and will be able to access the adult areas? 5%? 10%? 25% Sure, the amount of verfied accounts will rise with time after it is forced but adult businesses will still loose a large portion of their potential customer base because of people not wanting to verify or not being able to do so because of the system not working properly. |

I feel I may be redundant but I again I feel I must interject that there is nothing wrong with SL as it is and if there is a deep desire for a PG area then LL should make one of those instead. LL is spraying mace on its current residents.
Drop all new players there until verified, then allow into the main land. Allow a flag in the client to be limited to the PG area. (Allow the player to turn the flag on and off after verification has occurred.) Give businesses and those who desire a PG experience the option to move over no charge, land swap. Obviously set up a new search DB for the new PG continent contents only. Then set a flag that allows searching the PG continent only or the whole DB. Then no key word filtering should be necessary. And before worrying about adding filters to the search try fixing it first. I've done searches over and over for the same thing, my friends business name and I'll be darned of it only shows 1 or two hits when she has 3 paid adds out there and a parcel with the name on it. I dunno how LL set the thing up but its hit or miss at best. Hey, did anyone else notice LL put out a new client and implemented a new continent before asking us our opinion? I have to wonder if we are all just wasting our breath. They have already thrown alot of resources at this and complicated a whole bunch of systems when a simpler solution is out there: A PG continent and search. This is the first move towards getting rid of the adult content all together. LL, would never admit such (and will probably censor this comment for me saying so) but this is definitely what they're moving towards. Yea, yea, you say, why, why would LL want to do something like this that would obviously detriment their own business? The answer is easy. They want to make more money. So who's going to pay them more, a business or a citizen? Well a business obviously, but what business is going to open in a place surrounded by adult content? None, that's who. So LL decided to ignore the voice of the people, in favor of the voice of the businesses that say they won't enter SL until it's been censored. So they'll hide us off to the side to make way for their corporate business that won't end up staying after they find out just how unstable SL really is once you start trying to use it. My question is, why didn't you just segregate them onto their own continent instead of uprooting all of the citizens that helped create your sim in the first place? Yes this is speculation...but we've seen it happen before...anytime anything gets big the company starts to sell out. Why would LL be any different? |

Not to mention how little the opinion of the citizens means compared to the wants of a bigger business that has more cash to spend then your everyday citizen/SL user. They have failed to attract businesses for many reasons that have nothing to do with adult content, and they will continue to fail so long as they don't address the problems that make SL unattractive to businesses: * No private grids. * No secure grids. * Increasingly high graphic requirements. * No archiving of business content. * No integration into business workflows. * No attention to business use-cases. * Small customer base. * Etcetera... _____________________

This is annoying for anyone who comes here to relax, LL is now turning second life into a circus. I agree with another poster who said about Mainland being age verified only but homesteads etc which are not part of the mainland should be left alone. I am also annoyed at the information they require for this process I wouldn't give LL my passport number or anything else for that matter heck I rarely give out my blood donor number! I don't want to have to worry about 3rd parties loosing information which they have heck even Government have lost very sensitive information why would LL and other parties be any different. If LL will insist on this then I will just have to go elsewhere because my information is private! Now if LL will consider that 18+ is ADULT then surely those over sensitive people that have complained and been very vocal on this issue should be told " you came here of your own accord if you don't like the adult nature of certain area's then this is obviously not the grid for you" I would personally say there should be filters set in place on a client that allows you to filter out adult content and mature regions, then if you don't like it you can set your preference to PG only sims no need to see what you don't want to then. LL is barking up the wrong tree with this Age Verification lark and its going to push people away as SL is becoming more hard work and less enjoyable for those of us who only come to SL to relax and chat with people.

If you search for PG sims you will get a list of lots of adult sites. This has to be fixed. I work for a college. We cannot have any possibility of adult content in the sim.
If you want business and colleges to take SL seriously which they should and some are we need to have safe sims, and searches with mature content off that do not list sex sites, which they do now! |
