I almost missed this post here (which I quote below):

/327/10/336590/2.html#post2540324

Hope you're not offended, Wynochee, but I've edited it to make it more accessible.

The third paragraph is the interesting one. He reports that Blue promised an announcement about the fate of these forums within a week.

Does anyone know where Blue posts the transcripts of his office hours? I'd like to read this one.

Anyway, here's the post that provoked this thread:

From: Wynochee LeShelle
I was at Blue's last office hour, just watching. If you thought that Blondin or Jack's office hours were hectic... well, they seem like a relaxed holiday compared to Blue's. But it was funny. Not very much on topic, because (as I said) it was very hectic and full of jokes. Pink jumped in toward the end. She'll have some office hours devoted to Xstreet soon, 3 or 4 in different time zones, and even one on a weekend. She said she'd announce the times in a day or so. She also apologized for the abrupt changes to the Xstreet layouts/colors, and for the lack of communication about it.

Blue said that these forums will be merged, and that they'll have the same layouts as the SL website and XStreet. All the same style...

An announcement about this will come within a week.

He's moved some of the major critics of the SL website to the development team.

That's the news!

[I have no idea what the second to the last paragraph means. Maybe it's a joke?]

LOLz... I think he misspoke? I think he meant "critiques" instead of critics... If not, the development team must be like 10,000 people fatter at least :D

Smart guy!

Makes sense! So it should be "He passed the feedback on the website to the development team."

Oddly enough, I do feel fine. I have both a lifeboat and an escape pod at the ready.

BLue's office hour transcripts:
http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Blue_Linden/Office_Hour_Transcripts

He doesn't post transcripts every time. For example, there were 2 office hours on the forums, only one of which is posted.

Oh, mannnnnnnnnn. :( My choice (not that I have one) is to have these forums continue to be here even if closed for reference to so many helpful topics and information.

I can't imagine the mess merging the two will be.

Is there someway to download a thread to save on one's HD? I would LOVE to keep the Advice on Sales thread to be able to consult and re-read over time.

Hehehe :D That's my guess. Although it might actually be wise to hire on a couple of the critics :D

Copy and paste into Word... Print to PDF... or File > Save Page as... (or whatever it says in your browser to save it as a webpage)... Unfortunately in each of these cases, you have to repeat for each page of the thread. Maybe put your settings to show as many posts per page as possible first.

This forum is supposed to remain in readonly format. They aren't going to carry the content over to SL Answers.

Then.......what does 'merge' mean? Only 'from this point forward'?

Indeed, like the Xstreet forums are now read only:

Okay, first off, the guy who wrote the thing I quoted... his first language isn't English. And I didn't really do the absolute best job of rewriting it.

I quoted it so I wouldn't be utterly without a source, even if it was at second-hand.

Secondly, LL's been using the term "merge" but what it means is that this forum will be shut off, in the sense that it will be readonly, and the expectation is that we will all flock to SL Answers.

Lexie Linden pretty much blew that concept out of the water the other day when she said Second Life Answers isn't a place for discussion and told people to take discussions to the forums.

Yeah and the Lexie quote that SL Answers isn't the place for discussion is quoted in that thread, I don't see the expectation being that we'll all flock to SL Answers.

I agree. It's not MY expectation. It's LL's expectation.

LL thinks we are all deeply in love with SL Answers already.

But I say, if it's so great, why aren't we all there already? Why are we still here in these forums?

lol couldn't agree with you more. This forum is head and shoulders above SL Answers and its ilk.

Most likely as a way to stop a hostile thread and detour discussion of a volatile topic away from their shiny new blog rather than any real belief in a flaw in the blog format.

Don't worry - we'll have a sing-along on the last day.

Da Sexy Avie
10-01-2009 11:34
I hope we can save Da Sexy Avie for posterity. Look at the start date - that isn't a thread, it's an historical document, as important in its way as Magna Carta. It is living SL history and it is sad to think it will soon be a fossil.

We owe it to avies as yet unborn to preserve this wonderful heritage.

THEY may carry it over to the new discussion area (where, incidentally, posts can be read by anyone - not just SL resis), but its roots in SL antiquity will be forgotten unless we act now.

Does anyone know where Blue posts the transcripts of his office hours? I'd like to read this one.

Anyway, here's the post that provoked this thread:

Np, I appreciate that you edited it for good reasons. :) Oh, and the second last paragraph shows only my lack of english (sometimes) since it is not my main language.

It is meant like you said: "He passed the feedback on the website to the development team."

The last transcript of Blue's OH's is an old one from early June and is to find here:

http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Blue_Linden/Office_Hour_Transcripts/June_3rd,_2009
http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Blue_Linden/Office_Hour_Transcripts/June_3rd,_2009

The newer Blue Linden OH where I was some weeks ago is not listed there.

*sniffs* Before you can bludgeon Lindens on the head, you must first remove their cranium from their rectum.

That said... LL doesn't want any discussion that could possibly cast them in a negative light on that flog. At least that's the feeling I got reading those two "threads." It's not any real belief in our loving the flogs, because honestly, they know we don't. We're still here, after all, rather than flocking like gulls to the new shiny.

As for "merge," it will be more like they'll just "archive" this one and force us off the official site altogether for our meaningful and sometimes ranting discussions.

LL, do you remember how well that worked when you closed the General Discussions? No? Wow.. someone failed history in high school and possibly college...
