I wonder if any couples have separated in RL but remained married in SL.

That I do not know.

I do know of a SL "widow" whose SL partner died IRL, who has remained partnered to her.

Sounds a little creepy. Does she have the partner av stuffed and mounted in her living room?

Ouch. That's sad. I remember coming across a memorial to someone who had died in RL that her SL friends had put up. I don't remember where exactly, but I remember that it was a Buddhist shrine build. Very sad.

SL is a very immersive experience.
It's very easy to get carried away and to rush into things too quickly.
The optimum time before proposal depends on the time that both parties have spent in SL.

Time to proposal = A / (B*C) *100 / D ^3

Where
A = number of months in SL for party.1 + number of months in SL for party.2
B = average hours per day spent in SL by party.1
C = average number of hours per day spent in SL by party.2
D = average hours per day spent in SL by both parties in each other's company

The time unit is in minutes / hours / days / weks / months / years - depending on how you feel about each other.

Alternatively, don't do it.

LOL, how romantic! Why isn't love factored into your equation someplace?

I didn't write that , its by Sappho @600 BC

Just came to my mind reading the thread.

Lol Becky used to say she chased women running away screaming with Sapphic poetry.

Thanks - I Googled it but didn't come up with the quote.

Most Sappho translations are simply TOO poetic. I prefer Barnard:

For, let her run, she will soon run after;
if she won't accept gifts, she
will one day give them; and if
she won't love you -- she soon will
love, although unwillingly...

I run away from anyone who proposes or says they love me on the first date.

I marry them. I know they have impeccable taste!

Sweet! Hey I got married in RL in Vegas. It totally rocked. Got hitched, had a reception in a bar, then went out gambling in my wedding dress. I won a lot that night. ;)

Yup. Probably about $50,000 US dollars in total, once all the chips were counted, and no icky probability to deal with when you bet on a dead cert. Must have made everyone so proud!

I'll perform a divorce ceremony as well. It's not in my little minister's handbook, but I'll wing it. I'm sure I can come up with something that sounds good.

Yup. I am sure you would be brilliant!

Thanks for resurrecting this thread. It's timely.

We're holding our first SL wedding at Lebettu tomorrow (6:30 - 8:30 pm SL, and you're all invited). Miss Tayra Torricelli and Sr. Reyfer Kawanishi.

We've had such a good time preparing for the event that I'm thinking of offering Lebettu as a spot for destination weddings. We have several beautiful areas that work. Can anyone point me at someone or some thread that discusses the ins and outs of the SL wedding planning biz?

Just wondering...

What does everyone think is a reasonable amount of time to wait before 'proposing' in a world like SL? Its not as serious (TO most), so it wouldn't be the months and months or years that it is for most in RL... but.. how long?

I'm quite curious ^^
