I visited the one sim.. and quickly lost interest. Of course, I also have the attention span of a ferret in a room full of shiny things, so take that as you will.

I do admit that I wish they had done this with the mainland to begin with! It's really nice to have roads and places to walk without stepping on banlines and toes. Wonder if they have any rules, because if they don't, this is going to quickly become one heck of a mess.

In many ways, I expect it to end up something like Boardman or Stillman, or the Nova Albion areas, or Shermerville. All similar projects of SL's past.

I really gotta get out more.. I haven't visited any of those places. >.< Of course, I'm more into creating than exploring at the moment.

It's important to me that there be a bit of LL content to give us shared experiences, but in no way would I want every sim to be done this way.

Variety is key - that way anyone can find the place they feel most comfortable in. LL has been good about creating things here and there but not controling the world.

Yes, things are chaotic in places, but I'd far rather have it that way than pre-packaged.

I do both. Getting out and exploring usually gives me some of the best ideas. I'll lok at something and think "I can do this better" or "hey, dat's a novel way of doing that!" I might also see somethign that inspires me to do someting else -- Bay City makes me wanna do some more retro-y stuff, etc.

Then I take those ideas back to the workshop and start building.

Ya, dat. Jes like I wouldn't want every sim to be "dark roleplaying," or "tropical island," or even kid-specific. An at the same time as Bay City has come along, so has Gaeta -- which is largely open free-for-all land.

It's a big world, an there's room for all sorts.

From the Blog, Michael Linden says quote: "In just over a week, auctions will begin for the many attractive parcels in Bay City’s first twelve Regions. Ranging in size from about 512 square meters to nearly 2000 square meters, the parcels cannot be terraformed, joined or divided by their owners. Buyers will receive a package of textures and objects to help with their building projects."

I am totally dense about land purchasing. How and where are the auctions held? On site or on the SL website? And where would I keep an eye out to know when...or what plot to bid on?

Thanks for anyone who has patience to answer this for me :)

I'd thought about such things... but... I don't really need one? Maybe?

Need? What's need got to do with it?? It's a chance to have some fun!

They'll probably show up here, Czari: http://usd.auctions.secondlife.com/ . Keep an eye on the blog for details.

That's not a lighthouse. That's an airship mooring :-)

...an I fit okay ;-)

Ooooooooh, ok then - I guess I could make myself smaller. If you need to climb up it to get on an airship then I'd have to. :D

Land that’s up for action will show as a purplish color in the big Map window when you have Land For Sale checked in the legend. Also you’ll need to be a premium member to purchase any mainland property. I think there are some tips in the knowledge base too.

...Sindy and DaQbet :)

Going to head over to check out Bay City tonight and see if I would be interested in going up to Premium to purchase a bit of land there. Kind of fun to be on the "ground floor" of something. :)

I had a good look. I started by jetpacking about for an initial look round the whole area, then changed and wandered the streets.

The building quality and the look of the place is very good. I liked the tram and the river boat and all the opening drawbridges. Bay City might not be as breathtaking as Dresden Gallery or as imaginitive as Damania but it has an RL feel to it.

I'll be intersted to see how a place that is a collaboration between SL's best builders and LL works out.

If you haven't been to Bay City yet, go there for a look! That's an order!!!

I'll have to look into getting a lot in the Argos sim just for the arrogance of it. I'm sure the prices are going to be a lot more than I'm willing to spend though.

Any guesses as to the ability to use mega prims in a build in Bay City?

The idea of Bay City makes me very sad. I took it as a turning away from the Mainland's problems and allowing some people in LL to have the fun of creating without the pain that the rest of us have to deal with...

They won't have ad farms there..they will control the type of builds, the roads will be finished, etc.

I really wish they had concentrated on helping residents protect the beautiful communities and places that were already on the Mainland; I really wish they had forged new links with newer residents and I really wish they had focused on finishing the roads, even creating bridges etc on the rest of the Mainland.

I'm sure Bay City is very nice; I really believe the rest of the Mainland could be too if LL would turn its attention to it as well.

Just returned from my first entrance into Bay City. Just happened to land at the Asylum first so strolled through there, then headed out onto the highway, keeping an eye out for places to rez vehicles. I tried a car and a hoverpod and both were wildly out of control. *sigh*

Are vehicles working for anyone else or is this another gift of Havoc 4? After ending up in my car at the bottom of the ocean...I gave up and tp'd home.

I'd like to see Bay City proper so next time I'll try tping in closer to the city.

Really, someone did a sim of Bay City, Michigan???

But WHY? Having a pop rock group named after it (the Bay City Rollers) should have been enough.

;)

I'd really like to pick up a 1024. From what I've seen, I really like it. I have this weird feeling that it will be a total lottery ticket, though and I have no chance of actually picking up a piece of land that I like. It's almost not worth trying.

Wonder what they will go for. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to land.

I agree. I think that this would be a fun first land purchase for me. I went and explored over there and really liked it. I was wondering about plots as well, but I think that, at this point, demand will exceed the supply. Plus, after a few months, people will start reselling and there may be an opportunity for a better deal.

It is the next cool thing...so once the hype wears off...it will probably end up a lot like the mainland. Don't you think?

I've flown a number of aircraft around the sims without any problems, but they were updated for Havoc 4.
The area is on the Map now, so now you can drop in on the hotspots.

As far as I know, the only rezzing spots are the signposted area on the road at the Western edge of North Channel, and an area near the sign in Cape Haven.

I noticed that at least one opportunist had taken advantage of the 0 autoreturn to rezz a build and move it onto a plot in one of the sims, and set it for sale :)

I was surely disappointed.. It was like walking around neva's sex land.. a bunch of poeple younger than I am (60days) and lots of 'tude. Within 5 minutes someone bumped into me and called me a stupid artist. Another was trying to sell me a 1200L Lamborghini that I'm sure is a freebie somewhere. Got into a cursing quarrel before flying away or trying to at least.

The land looks great though, yeah.. but I dunno about what it's going to attract. And I doubt I'd even be able to catch a good plot at auction.. the bots will surely take over.

here's my tragedy - draw bridge vs. mercedes = FAIL

I've been super lucky with time in Bay City. An while a lot of the folks there is newbies checkin it out, I've come across a lot of older names there, actually.

Best ting I heard on the streets though, was dis, "It's weird. There's nothing to buy here."

Driving was crazy! but so funny there. I wish I took a pic of a sim walk er drive,
where I finally came to "stop" ontop of a cafe upside down!
Was thinking older scripts wasn't helping! Krus' bike was good to go!
