Will have to go back. The mental ward was kinda cool, knew there must be some historical real life refs. Looks great in WL.
It was funny friend was playing spot the whose the Mole work, I of course was playing w/ bridges. hehehe :)

I was rather disappointed to find I could not climb up inside right to the top of that lighthouse. It has a spiral ramp, but my avatar was too tall to get through at the top! I always had my doubts about making the buiders moles.

That's not a lighthouse. That's an airship mooring :-)

...an I fit okay ;-)

It was a nice sim last night I even played at the bowling alley. love the way the buildings are built. Would love to buy a plot there, does anyone know when they are going up for sale then?

The rez spot is at the end of one of the roads where there is a yellow sign just before a road turns into a bridge.

The asylum is creepy. It's called the Channel Islands Asylum. There's a famous mental health place that I drive by every day. It was known as the Hotel California, and it's now been turned into Cal State University Channel Islands. There's also a wierd mad scientist lab in one of the other sims.

I took a boatload of snapshots in the (very creepy) asylum yesterday. Not sure I'm going back in there by myself. Someone came up behind me when I was distracted from radar and scared me nearly out of my SL skin.

Which sim had the mad scientist lab, do you remember?

Aww... Worked fine for me. Went and found the entrance, largely stuck to right turns, an made it into the chamber with the necklaces. I was surrounded by a green, hollow, cylinder and allowed to pick one of the neck things.

Other things to look for:

* Trolleys and water trolleys

* The Bayjoux theater. I forgot to see if there was a video feed on

* Bandshell

* The mad scientists lab

* The prim inspection at the dock

* Balloon rides

* the neat lookin' beach area

* The bowling alley

* the Airship Mooring

* The creepy, creepy Channel Island Sanitarium

Honestly, I'd love to set up a satellite You Know, For Kids store in Bay City. I'll hafta keep an eye out for auctions.

I totally enjoyed visiting that place yesterday. I even went as far as turning on 4xAA just to take pics... Of course, now I'm refusing to turn AA off, WOW that's a nice picture. (@_@)

And LULZ @ the popularity of those drawbridges. I think Snapzilla and Flikr has more pictures of those bridges than anything else... I even found a broken one and took a pic. (^_^)

I can totally see that cafe and bowling alley turning into a hangout someday. (^_^)y

Hm.. Did the same thing but followed the maze to the left.

I did start out in that area by spotting the necklaces first and getting the message that I had to go through the labyrinth to get one. It didn't take too, too long to get through the maze - maybe there's a timer on the necklaces and I just needed to wait a bit more before trying to get one. I'll try again tonight!

Also spotted a broken draw bridge last night. Is there some established way to report problems that we find in mole builds? Support ticket? IM somebody? (edit: never mind! :) need to read other posts before posting, I guess)

Did you start from the chamber where the necklaces are, and go through the maze to the other side? In which case, ya did it backwards. Try goin th' other way an see if dat works more better :-)

Yep - once I got the message that I had to do the maze, I flew up and over and went thru the way I was supposed to go. I didn't start the maze at the necklaces..

Whee! I just saw DaQbet and Morgaine there!

We had lots of fun there exploring, bowling, racing motorcycles and playing hide and go seek :D
Everyone was friendly and yeah Oryx looked pretty hot in her green jump suit ;)
Hopefully this is an example of the kind of improvements to the Mainland the DPW will bring and is sorely needed. I’d like to see more planned communities of this sort on the Mainland. Be it by Linden Lab or the residents.

From the Blog, Michael Linden says quote: "In just over a week, auctions will begin for the many attractive parcels in Bay City’s first twelve Regions. Ranging in size from about 512 square meters to nearly 2000 square meters, the parcels cannot be terraformed, joined or divided by their owners. Buyers will receive a package of textures and objects to help with their building projects."

If you get good photographs enter the current Photography Studio contest. There's always a themed contest going on (or the resulting exhibit) but this one's theme, coincidentally ;D is "Bay City."

I'd really like to pick up a 1024. From what I've seen, I really like it. I have this weird feeling that it will be a total lottery ticket, though and I have no chance of actually picking up a piece of land that I like. It's almost not worth trying.

Wonder what they will go for. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to land.

I'd also like to have a smallish spot here, though I have no idea what I'd do with it.

Auction price will depend a lot on where the parcels are located. Something next to the bowling alley or train station will cost a lot more than something off in the middle of nowhere. Even the less-desirable spots will be a lot over the standard mainland prices because it's zoned and has a 2x prim allowance, IIRC.

Hopefully, it won't all get sucked up by people who just want to resell it. I can imagine the whole place ending up as yellow land with prices that are just silly. :(

I feel th' same way. I'd love to have a little brownstone storefront toy store, and mayve a sidewalk plant stand near it. Simple, and in the theme.

I'm worried about insane prices, though, an figgure my little dream is jes dat. :-/

That would seriously suck. I wonder if LL shouldn't put a minimum limit on the number of days someone can own a plot, so they can't flip. Maybe 90 or 120 days?

I don't think that capability is built into SL so it'd have to be something they managed manually. In other words, it's probably not gonna happen.

There's also some slippery slope stuff in LL limiting who can buy/sell land mainland..

I would expect there to be an initial rush and then a lot of instant re-selling, but I think it should stable out eventually as the market finds itself.

I'd actually like a spot for a nice little home - maybe a small shop on the bottom and a residence on the second floor. I know a few regular posters here are probably hysterical over the thought of zoning, which this essentially is, but in this case, it's a choice. You can live here and put up with the rules, which in my opinion isn't really different than renting in a themed build like Caledon, or you can go find land elsewhere on the mainland where anything goes.

I like the structure that a few rules give, and I like the look and feel of Bay City a lot. I'd really love a small plot there. I might have to give it a go and see if I can snag a piece of land.

Bay City rocks!

Well, at least so far it does! I had a great time checking it out with some of the moles-in-civilian-clothing yesterday.

I'm really hoping they add just ONE bit of covenant: that you HAVE to put a structure of some kind on your land. And not rotating ad prims or just a wasteland of a lot supporting a humper bunker skybox at 10000000 meters altitude.

Never underestimate the ability of people to 'not get it' and ruin things for everyone else.

The blog says double prim too so even a 512m with 234 prims would be enough to have something nice. I've survived with just 117 :)

I'd thought about such things... but... I don't really need one? Maybe?

I'm cautious, call me stupid but I like to see older regions, not new ones - god knows who could move next door on uncovenanted land!

Might be cute though - gunbunnies in red coats on either side of the door, the flag, the free visa stamp... laughs

I would love to purchase a plot - mainly - because I like the neighborhood feel Bay City offers. I'd love to put up a 50/60's type house, with retro furniture ...

Or, sadly, get it and not care.

For anyone who's interested, here's an entry I put on my LiveJournal about it all:
