..... led me to discover that he was two timing me from the start as he went off to dance with someone else. ....
So.... If I go to Sweethearts or Phat's and happened to get IMd by two different guys and I continue to actually chat with them both, as we learn a bit about each other and try to decide if we want to dance, then I would be considered to be "two timing" them?

We might want to discuss your thinking just a tad in relation to the SL world.

I don't think I've read such ill-tempered, misanthropic bile in a long while.

Um, yes, you have.

Maybe they are embarassed to say things in public chat because they know they are generally typing absolute rubbish.
Absolute rubbish is good enough for the Prince of Wales, it's good enough for me.

Here's a song that I recall
My mother sang to me
She sang it when she tucked me in
When I was ninety three.

It goes...

Ying tong ying tong ying tong ying tong
Ying tong iddle I po.
Ying tong ying tong ying tong iddle I po.
Iddle I po...

Oh that crazy modern music!

Is Ephraim in the non-existent clique then?

Pep (If not, get over to the Undying Thread for indoctrination immediately!)

We do not indoctrinate - we prefer assimilation, with a little bit of brain washing thrown in.
:D

I apologize for contributing to the slight derailment of your thread, Ephraim.....but kept referring back to your thread title "Night of the Living Dead".....and thought we were all on topic.....surely you can see how that might happen.

One thing that drives me crazy is the first contact small talk IM from someone I don't know. There is no need to say Hello in IM.

I agree with this and often tell such people they are welcome to address me in open chat. This is particularly so at my cafe, where I rather want to encourage people to use open chat.

I am a bit of a multitasker so my practice varies, but I pretty much always use open chat in public places. That doesn't mean I won't have one or more IM windows open too, but I like the general buzz of group chat (provided it's intelligible and not a flood of screen-filling gestures), and I want to contribute to it and encourage it, whether at my place or elsewhere.

Dear me, Argent, the Goons are so ... deceased.

Or is Eric Sykes still going? Last time I saw him, himself and Fionnuala Flanagan were putting the willies up Nicole Kidman.

I don't keep an ignore list.

Nothing to apologise for, Mickey. Like I said, I've lead a few threads astray myself. I just thought Annabel was taking it a little too far. I'm also particularly susceptible to that "men are assholes" attitude, which didn't help my temper.

Glad to see she saw fit to open her own thread on the issue.

I like open chat. I think it's better to have to wade through a lot of text than having no text at all. A lot of text is like having a room buzzing with conversation where no text is like a library. When a place is too quiet I like to say, "If it gets any more lively in here a funeral might break out!"

Hence men's rate of suicide being higher ;)

Well, if its the choice between suicide and being trapped around the type of women who think every man's a barely evolved lowlife and she's a godesses, choosing the first one is kinda a given. :)

They shall never die, so long as one man still sings the Ying Tong song! Without the Goons, there would have been no Goodies, no Morcambe and Wise, no Monty Python. Not to mention NO PINK PANTHER. What would Henry Mancini have done with nothing but the Spy Hunter theme to his name? Oh, that terrible modern music that man inspired, the only man to have received a knighthood after calling the Prince of Wales a "groveling little bastard".

No, they will always live for those who loved them well...

Same. I simply respond in open chat to any Hi in IM from people I can see. Is like when people text you on your phone while they in the same room as you. arg !!!

And as a general rule if I cant see people and theyre not my friend or making a specific business query then I will not respond in IM at all. I suppose is just that I dont do secret very well.

My parting shot to the funereal congregation of a club last night was: "I'm off to bed. The excitement's all too much for me." Nobody answered. I'll consider bringing a spiritual medium next time.

I was only pulling your leg. The Goon Show finished long before I was so much as a sperm and an egg arguing but I used to read the scripts, which had me crying tears of laughter.

Still no word from a mentor who knows of this "IM, don't chat" policy.

I suspected there might be a development like this somewhere along the line and I think SL is in trouble if the latter breed is more common than the first. Surely residents like that are not cut out for the job of mentor if they think their style is the only way? Bad teachers do this in RL: it's a classic flaw in education that hampers a student's innate creative ability.

I totally agree i would rather teach and guide people to use the tools at their disposal the IM's i just think rude as i said earlier when you first make contact with a stranger in public, yes then take it to IM afterwards fair enough, but not to say Hello to someone that you do not know and that is standing in front of you, but then thats just my thoughts :)
