Seriously, this is why Conservatives are in a downward spiral. For nearly 20 years, the Republicans conned much of America into thinking Conservatives and Republicans were the same thing. They promised abortion restrictions and limiting marriage rights, then turned around and fought minimum wage increases, universal CHILD healthcare plans, and reform in the credit industry. Worked great for the REPUBLICANS. Conservatives got the shaft. But then again, when you lay down with dogs, you can't really whine when you get fleas. Fleas are god's creatures after all.

Thank the complex process of evolution I vote Independent. I may not have much power, but not being a corporate CFO, I never had much anyway, and I can look myself in the mirror each morning.

OMG on Sl i met some pretty rude and out right nasty people in this groups. Talk about you Narrow minded they are always right BS people. In RL i met many of this people but the were nothing close to the jerks I met on sl. What is it with SL and causes? Why are people much more rude and outright tacky self rightious ( sp) etc here then RL? Well I tell you because they all talk and no action in RL.

Well his middle name is Hussein and even thought he joined a Christian chuch, he is a Muslim. The telling thing about him, is when he was sworn in he refused to be sworn in with a Christian Bible and requested a copy of the Koran.

As several people have pointed out, sadly there are people who would believe everything that was written in the article. It would play well to the "Protect the Children" crowd.

I posted on the gentleman's blog (awaiting moderation, so we'll see if he really is for "freedom". Some one like this doesn't anger me. It saddens me that there are people in the human race so consumed by hate that they attack and lash out at their fellow human beings.

So, instead of working within the system to try to help those who have lost their way, this gentleman turns to mudslinging and slander.

I think some one has lost his way, but it's not the people he wrote about.

And not to attack religions, but why do people always bring religion into issues like this? Do these people actually beleive that only those that follow their religion are correct and rightous? If so, that is a very narrowminded outlook, and one that I feel goes against the teachings of every known religion in the world. Mainly since every religion I have ever studied carries the message of peace, and of helping your fellow humans, leading them TO the word of your religion, not slamming them with it.

Are you kidding? I thought one of the main points of religion was that you can feel superior to some other poor sod who worships a lesser (or non-existent) god.

Used to be true, but not now. Now you have assholes like Mike Gerson running around and writing articles saying that "the era of small government conservatism is over". Under W, the conservatives have been taken over by the Jesus crowd, who have the same idea about government size and control as the left does, just based on religious ideas rather than secular ones. To be honest, in a choice between a nanny-state based on secular ideas and a nanny-state based on evangelical christianity, I'll take the secular nanny state any day of the week.

The libertarian wing of the conservative movement has been overtaken by the Jesus people -- at least for the time being.

Slightly off topic again, but you are wrong. You are confusing SENATOR Obama from Illinois with REPRESENTATIVE Keith Ellison from Minnesota. Not the same person.

Just a small correction, you seem to be confusing conservatives with Republicans. They are not the same. Republicans are a party, conservatism is an ideal. The same is true with Democrats and liberals, you can be one without being the other.

As for the topic, you are always going to have people that want to shut down what they don't like. People want everyone to live as they do, it just seems to be human nature. It works both ways. You have everything from people like the blogger there to the other extreme where people that want everyone to be atheist because it is better.

Right or wrong, the word conservative has been co-opted by the Republicans, just as liberal has been co-opted by the Democrats. Statist would be the best word to describe both parties.

I thought the best word was Iditot.
