but...it isnt robbery...that implies force used to take something. theft...well yes, but really its a mistake...you made a mistake and the recipient of the funds chose not to return the overage...crummy? , yes...but nothing anyone can do anything about. the best advise is already given, take your lumops, and move on ...and as one other poster said, be sure of what you do before you do it. we all make mistakes though...just with money, be it lindens or real life, $10 or $10,000 always take the extra time to make sure what you are doing is correct. but you know that...no need go on and on...

sorry for the lesson...it is crummy to learn someone is not trustworthy in such a way...but then...at least you know.

I heart you both! And Sarah, all newbies carry something special in their hearts for you. In their pants too. ;)

I feel for you, Selina, the guy is definitely a slimeball, but you can't call him a thief.

Imagine a street vendor in New York, selling hot dogs. A guy pays for a dog, but the vendor finds he's out of what was ordered. Instead of returning the customer's $5 bill, he accidentally forks over a $50. The customer vanishes.

Is this theft?

Nope, it's taking advantage of an accident. You could report it to the police all you want, but I doubt there's any jurisdiction this side of Heaven where you'd get your day in court. (To mix a metaphor.)

Your $L is gone. You can fret over it; you can assign blame and shame. What do you get out of that? Or, you can take it as a US$10 lesson to count your money carefully.

What a virtual scumbag. If this guy doesn't even have the morals to return something like that how can anyone trust this guy or even interact with him? There are other forums where you can name names if you are so inclined. Also, check out what groups he's in. If there are any that look like they require him to be trustworthy send an email to the group owner or maybe even send a message to that group if you can.

this i realize but didn't realize there were such nasty f***s in SL.

Fat finger syndrome

Yea won't be that careless again

Why? lol theres nasty F***s in RL!
BUT you know 2 yrs ago after saving up all my L$ i sent someone 1 million L$ instead of to my alt ( this was before SL gave you a chance to double check the amount b4 sending )
and you know what? The guy paid it me back! I gave him 25K

I swore I would remember his name and I'm ashamed to say I didnt. Isnt that always the case? we remember the bad ppl and forget the good. :(

There are good and bad ppl in SL but I fear in SL even the good are swayed to being sh**s as it they hide behind a coak of pixels and BS names

I'm afraid you're stuck. People get burned for a lot more money than that without the Lindens doing anything about it. Chalk it up to experience and be much more careful from now on.

Well, it's your fault for making the mistake, slow down and verify before clicking ok, or pressing enter.

It is too bad that this slimeball didnt repay you. I was standing on my land, and a friend accidentally paid 50,000L to me. Bear in mind, she was paying someone via the friends list, and had accidentally highlighted my name instead of the intended receipient. I was totallly suprised to see (av name) has just paid you 50,000L. A moment of silence went by as I stood there and wondered why she paid me 50,000L, and then came the IM. "um.. I made a mistake... could you pay that money back to me?" I laughed, and purposely waited a few seconds (just to make her sweat..lol), and then I responded, yeah, sure, np, and then repaid 49,999 to her citing a $1L processing fee..lol :)

It may be human to make mistakes, but even in SL there's always a slimeball in the gutter ready to take advantage of your own.

Glad to hear the principle is a bigger deal than the money. 2500L is approx. $10 USD and although that isn't a lot to most people here, it is for some. Just because somebody has broadband, a computer, etc., doesn't mean they can afford to throw ten dollar bills down the drain.

That's basically what this guy did. He stole ten dollars from you, and laughed in your face. No doubt he wouldn't do something so audacious in real life. That's why cowardly wimps with cocktail stick manhoods do it here.

Do tell him about this thread. I suspect the support you received here is worth several times what he stole from you.

naming names is a serious ToS violation.
i suggest removing the name. you can name names on secondcitizen and slex and whatnot, but not here. they will come down hard on you mate.

So what?

Although, each story has two sides it's not too hard to find out if it's true or not as most people have solid proof of what they're saying. If you're interested enough it's not hard to find out either.

They should name these people who harass, abuse, steal and con people here in sl. Maybe then it wouldn't happen that often as it does now.

Which won't help a bit.... The largest part of SL doesn't read here... And guess, most are like me, the names of the regulars I will remember.... others are gone after an hour, if not less.

Now who were you again? :P

Edit: And if you really want to list all these people, we may need a new big forums for that....

So what?
Regardless of the stupidity of the rule, action could have been taken against the person naming the name. She could have been suspended in-world for something she said in the forum.

Not something to be dismissed lightly.
Not something she'd probably want.

So it was polite to advise her about that before a mod jumped, locked and sent for Linden review.

What solid proof? Chat logs? I can give you a chat log saying anything. The rule is in place for a good reason.
