My real terror is with the American people and how complacent we've become. I guess I should therefore be grateful someone worse than Bush isn't in power. Let me preface all of this by saying I am all for the American people, I have american friends and relatives and have spent alot of time in the US. From the outside politically you americans really seem to have a knack for hiding from or flat out denying the TRUTH. CNN is a big part of this. Genrally the American public must be 'Mushroooms' - (kept in the dark and fed bullsh*t) I simply dont undertand how you would impeach Clinton for getting his jollies and turn a blind eye when your current president has committed nothing short of genocide in Iraq while outright lying about the motive and going against the UN. The OJ simpson trial gets headlines for weeks while the war in Rwanda is something you heard about after it was over (theres no oil in Rwanda!!) Your economy is spiralling downhill, how long until the US dollar is worth the same as a the peso? Get ready for inflation and recession folks. Read the news how major foriegn investors are pulling out, hundreds of billions of USD are expected to leaving the US economy. The Saudis and other oil rich countries do not want do be dragged down with the ship. How can you sit idly by while the Bush administration runs the county into the ground just to fund thier retirements? You should be ashamed!!! I wouldn't be surpised if this whole CNN in SL thing is actually a CIA funded ploy to sift out terrorists, and oh yeah why not sexual deviants as well, and while you're at it all the gays, pot smokers and original thinkers. There has got to be another reason besides i-reporting that CNN is in SL now... look at the format of thier proposal... people who give them stories are doing the groundwork for them... profiling .. monitoring. does BIG BROTHER come to mind at all? Now call me paranoid and a conspiracy theorist.. but if you never hear from me again you will know what happened. AAAKKK! -whyroc ***Allthough I am using the second person here...I don't mean 'You'. These are my opinions of the general American public and current political economic state... I would hope that anyone on SL and these forums is typically a forward thinker and wouldn't get pissed with me for voicing some of this stuff ***_____________________

Yes, I read it, that's why I posted what I did. I know I was being silly, but I really think this is the kind of stuff people might wind up doing. Sending CNN junk. What can possibly be of that much importance in SL that needs to get out to CNN? Either I'm missing something about being here, or they think things are far more interesting than they appear to be. Warda probably is right, they are going for the "hip and trendy" crowd, but in the end, what they don't realize is most of us are here to have fun, make friends, explore, maybe do some business. I certainly do not want to bring the problems of RL such as having to worry about politics, crime and CNN into the mix! I come here to escape from all of that! http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/14.04/learn.html You personally may be right in principle especially in terms of your own use of SL but this is kind of interesting and to a degree underpins the continued media and financial interest in SL AND other VR worlds. The point that applied in the link can also be relevant to Second Life, There, EU and other VR worlds |

Now call me paranoid and a conspiracy theorist.. but if you never hear from me again you will know what happened. AAAKKK! Well, I don't know what CNN's agenda is for coming in but curiously it was a little over a year ago that Reuters coming in, spurred my attention to peek in and see what all the fuss was about. /me hates politics and ducks out sharpish. _____________________

Actually, it might be a good thing. If things like the financial scams make it to mainstream American news, it might prod LL into banning the activity once and for all. I agree with you 200%. Good post. Regards John |

Genrally the American public must be 'Mushroooms' - (kept in the dark and fed bullsh*t) As an American who actually thinks for themselves, this is SO FRICKING TRUE!! The more I was trying to explain the B.S. to coworkers, the more I realized- we've become a nation of morons, where intelligence is looked down on. While I do NOT agree with Bush & the whole "Politically Correct Wars" we've been doing, I'd have to say I still support the folks overseas fighting so my sad sorry ass can sit in front of a computer. God/Goddess/Buddha or Whoever Bless those guys! Still... I think Bush would be one of those guys you'd want to go drinking with. I have a feeling he's a total goofball chick magnet in private. ![]() And while Bush may be the worst President so far, as they say, the worst is yet to come. _____________________

Back on topic, watched the CNN report about SL today. Two of the reporters liked it, the two morning show hosts were very skeptical. One couldn't figure out how to get dressed, so was wearing system pants and shirt untextured. Then they got griefed with flying textured objects.

I think CNN coming here will be a good thing overall. However, let's stop the politics please. I love to discuss politics but it seems to always end up quite nastily.

(a bunch of conspiracy type stuff) Sad that the peace that has existed for Europe since World War 2 has blunted so many to how most of history has taken place. They forget that for over 400 years Europe was the most aggressive and expansionistic group of countries the world has ever seen. Indeed much the situation in the Middle East is directly descendant of European Policies in the Middle East before and shortly after World War 2. Americas "War on Terror" pales in comparison to the subjugation and colonolization of whole continents. While I agree the war in Iraq is a bad thing, people really lose perspective when they refer to it. |

Americas "War on Terror" pales in comparison to the subjugation and colonolization of whole continents. While I agree the war in Iraq is a bad thing, people really lose perspective when they refer to it. Perspective definitely is what is needed, Collete, and badly lacking. As for Iraq, consider: The original WMD thing was universally believed; Saddam was one of the two most odious tyrants in the world (along with Kim jong Il, and he is gone; it was Saddam's transparent ambition to gain miltary domination of Persian Gulf oil, which would have meant he could have the whole world by the throat; people forget, but he was getting very close to slipping the UN leash, after having corrupted the UN hierarchy and many in Europe with the oil-for-food money; after he was gone Al Qaeda made it a proving ground for terrorism as a modus operandi, an idea that must be discredited at every step; and any Iranian nuclear missiles are going to have to fly over Iraq to reach not only Israel but Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon...so now it is slowly becoming apparent that in a few years the world is going to need an Iraqi government that allows bases on its soil for Patriot missiles to counter the missiles and the means for quick retaliation. Iran is the next one in line to try for domination of Persian Gulf oil. The Iraq war is bad in the way all wars are bad. Terrible things happen in wars. Some wars are necessary, like some amputations. |

Is the CNN "presence" going to be any different from any other corporate "presence?" They build a theme park that is visited by curious residents for the first week, then the place goes dead, is eventually littered with giant penis-like structures, and finally the whole experience gets filed away under, "We don't get it."

Definitely the cynical side of the SL experience in a nutshell. (and of course happens often) |

You know what's funny? I decided to check out the CNN area, and started by trying to locate it by searching for "CNN" under Places.
I get four results. My favorite result is "CnN Productions." The area is described as, "CnN Productions. Kitchen Equipment ground floor. Bathrooms first floor. Sex room in the skybox." So CNN has a sex room in the skybox. Give credit to CNN's presence in Second Life. CNN seems to have assimilated to the Second Life culture faster than any other corporate presence. |

Good for you, Mari, going there in person! I think many SL kids would run from the press; I'm not sure I've ever seen any quoted in any of the several damning stories. If I had any inworld time to speak of, I would sign up as an . ... what is it, iReporter? And interview you. I've never been interviewed by any of those outlets, at least in this world and on this topic. IRL, I long ago lost my fear of the media, though, so I dun mind goin into those places. I figgure if I dun, then what story will they hear, ya know? Mari _____________________
