Very interesting thread! had the same question as Bradley, because we furniture makers need full permission animations of course.

So far B&B are the best animations I saw, but I would love to see other work as well (as long as I can get the right permissions).

Greetings Marcel

One animation store I like that hasn't been mentioned yet is Reverie Virtual Systems (not a fan of the name though :P) I'll go in-world to check my landmarks to see if there are any others.

From: Subversive Vavoom
I've been hunting waltzes for our spring cotillion. Yes, i know you said 'no dances' but these are especially hard to find outside of Craig's over at BnBobs. I am yet to find other two person ballroom dances as well.

I'm planning to do both waltz and tango soon. "Soon" is a relative term though; I mean in like a month, after a couple other items on my todo list. I think ANOmations has a ballroom dance, have you checked there?

From: Subversive Vavoom

I just purchased the John Durant Motion Merchant "Formal Escort" down a runway last night, which looks highly promising (basically a walk arm in arm system). Wish i could find one of these for coming down a grand staircase!!!

It should go down stairs fine, but you can't go up. Hopefully I can improve these with the new physics that are being tested.

ADDITION: durr I forgot Web Page's store on Da Boom. In general there are a ton of animation stores I have landmarks to that haven't been mentioned yet, but I don't know if this thread is only for smaller places or just any animation store. Like, ANOmations hasn't been mentioned, but Cristiano is an SL celebrity.

From: Max Herzog
I stopped by Payne and Despair earlier. Those will make for some fantastic photos.

I didn't know about this place, looks very cool. Note that this is a newer branch of an established line of stores, 5ith Order.

Incidentally, responding to the OP

Special-purpose AOs, eg mermaids, also fine.

A long time ago I did a mermaid AO to go with the mermaid costume Isis Desmoulins created. I don't know if the outfit is still for sale though, haven't talked with her in a while.

Happy Dispatch. Lots of good stuff for AO's (I think he has a ninja AO too), a few REALLY inexpensive poseballs with sits and relaxed poses, and very good naughty poseballs.

This need for full-perms finally drove me to doing a few of my own (well, this combined with becoming the inadvertent but lucky owner of Gearsawe Stonecutter's masterful "U-Poser"--which is more time-consuming than external animation tools, but great for fitting poses specifically to an avatar or an in-world construction... and somehow more fun).

I've even resorted to buying a whole bunch of copies of a no-copy anim I particularly liked, making a little assembly line to stuff the anims one at a time into individual instances of the product, and scripting a vendor to dispense them each individually. What a pain in the a$$.

But you can see why animators are nervous about full-perms: I've seen almost every one of Craig Altman's gorgeous full-perm Bits & Bobs animations turn up embedded in cheap furniture made by folks who don't understand the "slam bit" and therefore didn't follow instructions on how to set the permissions appropriately.

Ok, might as well plug myself.

Living Dead Skins in the sim of Dansim.

I didnt like the Huddles Zombie AO, so I made my own. :)

It's not the "zombie-with-arms-sticking-straight-out" stuff either. I go for a more 'natural' dead thing. :)

Fairy's Grove makes a mermaid A/O - they do not sell any other A/O's except this one. Although they just redid the store and I found it very annoying to shop in now, and I do not know if they currently carry it. I'd IM they creator, Wraith Unsung first to make sure.

Speaking of animations, a friend of mine is looking for some decent food preparation anims. (Chopping veggies, peeling potatoes, etc). Can we include quirky anim shops for specific needs on the List?

Absolutely, let us know if your friend finds them.

Also, I've always wondered if folks who have dining rooms in their SL homes might want a 'going to dinner' AO, with eating anims, hostess walking with dishes anims, lalala. I would find it spooky, myself, but ... I know I saw a dining room set somewhere with eating anims built in.

I think part of the reason we dont see too many "off beat" animations like Oryx mentioned is.... we can't animate our hands & fingers directly. :(

But this also keeps us from seeing countless "one finger salutes" around the Newbie areas. :p

Dining anims...

Pond Life has dining tables and chairs that change texture. Click on the table and get a menu for various dinners, desserts, drinks. Also a variety of dinnerware. Too much to describe here but well worth the trip. A bit pricey, but easy Lindens come, easy Lindens go.

I just saw a couple at Bits & Bobs, kneading dough and using a rolling pin. Would love to see more, been looking for stuff like that as well.

I don't know about you, but I get tired of seeing the same terrific animations from Bits and Bobs, Abranimations, Animazoo, Pillow Talk, Reel Expressions, Vista ... the big guys.

I recently went to Anti Antonelli's store, as well as Dielli Design, and saw some great things! I want to put together a notecard tour of some smaller places that have interesting anims.

No, they don't have to be owned by forum people! Please post here with YOUR recommendations for small animator shops to visit. Animations, not static poses, please, and also not dances or gestures ... need to limit the list somehow! Full AOs as well as standalone anims are fine. Special-purpose AOs, eg mermaids, also fine.

I'd prefer it if you have actually seen, and liked, an animation from the place. Lord knows there are a lot of meh! animators out there.

/me sits back and hopes for a place with a cute female skip anim!

(and shudders at the thought of a cute male skip anim)
.

What a great idea. *will scour this thread and pop in world in a minute* I'm always looking for new animations.

But I have to second that Anti Antonelli has great great animations. And amazing service too!

I still love the great & well known, but confess that I'm always looking for more. To date I've really been disappointed with some of the newer creators -- not as much attention to a smooth animation... just cranked out by the dozens for a quick sale.

Now to go to these places I haven't heard about! Thanks again.

This is one thing I wish we could animate, but I doubt LL will ever change to the avatars so we can animate them. Adding 15 joints per hand would add alot of overhead to a system that already has problems handling what we have now.

I do alot of speciality animations and get asked for a lot of off beat things. I always tell them that they won't be as good they are imagining since the hand, fingers and facial expressions are so limited. Not to mention how bad these avies actually bend and pose.

I guess I'll have to mention myself? ;) Although I simply have one vendor with my standing poses and AO in it currently (working on the store), but they are more natural ways of standing that I made for myself, that people kept IMing me "where did you get your AO" and then "can I buy them from you"? :D

I.. just met a guy..name is JosephAbel Speedwell? I'll come back and change the spelling.
He has made intimate beds with poses that also supplies what a scripted male part would supply.((Trying to put things delicately here.)) so basically rather than click genitals(to get a desired outcome)..you click the bed((and the outcome appears on the "F" partner). I was very impressed..and the beds are texture changeable too.

It might be in search under Speedwell's. Nothing fancy..but very promising. ;)

Just stumbled on one with quite an array of unusual ones of this sort: "BB Animations" in Isere. Found them from an interesting shop, "Shade" in Crooked Earth that uses a number of them (and Craig Altman's, and I think some originals) to good effect. Oh, and AV Puli has a good food-prep one I've used before, too.

Below find the text to the Lesser-Known Animator Tour. The version of this with landmarks is available inworld from a garish little pyramid in the freebie area of the Forum Hangout (aka the Place Which Shall Not Be Named). [Allana/160/32/36, the dark area in the lower right of the sim]. Or if you'd rather, send me an IM inworld and I'll drop a copy on you. Feel free to hand out to anyone.

If the place you suggested isn't there, it's because I couldn't find it! I tried to include at least one of the major TYPES of AOs ... mermaid, japanese, combat, gang, etc.. I had to leave out the furniture places, it just got big.

I had THE most fun collecting landmarks ... there are amazing weird anims out there. Fortunately, I didn't have much cash on me, but I will be going back!!

This is a list of lesser known places to get Animations. It's nowhere near exhaustive, having grown out of a thread on SL’s forums. Unusual anims are a fun way to make your avatar and home unique! At the bottom of the card, I also list some of larger Animation stores.

Before we start, there are a couple of places to note: first, the FABULOUS mall
Animations Universe
This place is mecca for small, unusual anim stores. It has a search kiosk at the rez-in point which will look in all the shops for an anim with your word(s) in its name. A few of the shops mentioned below have outlets here. Some of these creators also do custom & full-perm anims.

Secondly, Animation Warehouse: This place has both huge and small animators represented.

Not all of everyone's product line is at Animation Warehouse.

It's a little funny to see Mr. P's listed as a lesser known animator, since that is literally the first store I checked out when I joined SL a year and a half ago.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Lol he had a similar comment about your place! Beau has indeed been around a while, but it seemed to me that you're both better known in the forums than in the greater metaverse, tho maybe that's just my own ignorance. He's renovating his product line for 2008 soon, btw!

In any case, it can't hurt to have a few extra people drop by, can it? :)
