Group Land 1 linden charge error?

I was hit by two groups.. one that I created that I know I turned off group liabilities, and the Forum cartel. When I log back in tonight I will make sure all the settings are turned off once again. *pouts* I'm 2l down, I'll never get that new pair of shoes.. ;P I don't mind the 2L, it is the stupid turning things on again that were off!

I have 2 charges for Groups.... One is an old land group with 5 in it and it was charged $L4 and the other is a large RP group and was charged $L1. I can understand the $L1 but why the $L4 which times 5 is only $L20, not 30? Oh well $L21 is like 12 cents so I guess it could have been a lot worse but 12 cents X a couple thousands is a nice chunk of change!

Which was stolen from a plot point in Superman III (it was Richard Pryor stealing the percentages of pennies from corporate checks).

I have also been charged this mysterious 1L for group that owns land.. not on groups which do not own land.

mainland, mature parcel, owned by group, not the only group I own, but the only group that I own, that owns land.

Weird. I received a group dividend from one of the groups I belong to at 07/08/2009 01:47:35. That's never happened before... Still, I'd rather be up a small fraction of a penny than down.

The group in question owns no land, and it looks like everyone got a dividend.

The might have taken a Linden from me. This means war!

I don't seem to have been tagged by it, but i'm filtering through all my groups now to check that the liabilities box is still cleared... thanks for the heads up, i'd have missed checking on this for a week or so.

ETA: I noted 11 groups of mine that showed what looked like erroneous reversions in "pay group liabilities" of which I can guarantee 4 were NOT previously set... so somewhere along the line something has been borked. every instance I found looks like it was only the starter "everyone" role that was affected.

it's not that big a deal when it comes to search fees, but if a group has some other huge dividend or liability this could be a HUGE mess for some people.

It goes even further back than that. I read about it in a book on computer fraud written in the 1970's, and a 1976 episode of the Sweeney used the same concept.

If you go back far enough, people were shaving and clipping coins for the precious metal then spending the reduced coin. The milled edge was introduced to stop this kind of fraud.

Same thing with me. A dividend and a charge. Plus L$1 to the Cartel. At this rate I'll go broke in 5,000 years!

This is the biggest issue. When I told the owner of one of the groups I'm in, she was very surprised that it had somehow reverted back (apparently nobody else either noticed the charge or bothered to mention it to her). Imagine how surprised she would have been if she had sold the land and the money was split between all of the group members.

I got this 4 times, and filed a report to Linden Lab.. At first the tech guy was SURE it was some misconfiguration of the group, until I pointed out that one of the involved groups OWNED NO LAND.. He continued to emphatically insist that when it was discovered what happened, Linden Lab would in no way be at fault. (meanwhile, an alt of mine who owned one of my groups, had a -1L balance.. again, no group land to advertise)


Later, he apologized and offered to give me the 4L$ back (big deal 4L$.. wow 1.5 pennies, can you spare it?).. I only contacted them to tell them that their group liabilities process was broken. He said "no one else is reporting this".

PLEASE if you experienced this, PLEASE file a support ticket about it!

I did. It's possible I filed it in the wrong category for him. Could you ask him how it should be filed?

Quite honestly, it took me like 40 times saying "The group owns no land" before he even acknowledged the fact and put down the standard triage manual.

I don't wish to go through that process again with another person. Not over 4 lousy L$.

I filed a ticket too, Status still "New"

One of my alts wound up at L$-3 in the red. I was like WTH.. and when I checked, the only charge to her account (as many days back as it would let you look at online) was for the forum cartel group. Pretty sure several other groups got me too as I never leave a zero L$ balance on any of them.

one of the groups that I found that I know for sure was reverted got burned by exactly this (hence why I know it hand been reverted, I walked them through fixing it after they had to politely ask if people would return cash from a land sale.. was a friends group, so everyone was nice about it)

sent scary-grams to everyone in my friends list (and a couple of group owners) warning them of both problems (no telling how long ago the pay liabilities reversions happened) had to drop a few unresponsive groups, c'est la vie.

My groups still have the same roles and abilities, and only owners are paying group liabilities.

So there's still no explanation for the mystery group liabilities on Wednesday.

For the group that got the extra group liability charge, there were 5 accounts hit for L$1 and there's currently a L$5 balance in the group, so I don't see any money lost, but I'd like to know why it happened and what it means for the future.

nope. I lodged a ticket but haven't had a response yet.

I did notice that the group was somehow in debit to the tune of 2L as after the 3L was taken there's a balance of 1L.

So by the look of it somehow the group went into debit hence the charge. How/why it did is a mystery that only LL can answer.

I had some type of weird charges too that I couldn't make sense of. Are we being taxed for being in groups now?

well, it took into account the 3l it took the other day when calculating the liabilities. So it's all evened out.

Still no response to the ticket though so no explanation is forthcoming yet.

It's not much money but if you multiply it by a million or more members...

Lindens have an offshore bank in Second Life?
