Yep I know that well. Hell I used to be like that. My avatar was simply a fancy cursor that I could build with. And well I know many builders who still treat there avatar that way and think as much of changing there avatar as they do there them on there desktop. But That says something about you now does it not and judging you on how you show your avatar off is not something that is wrong. Newbies get a 'get out of jail' free card cause well they don't know any better but the longer you are here the more your looks say about you.

No, it says nothing about me. That's my point.

that's not quite true.

naughty's man's skin "damien", for one, has been stolen. it has been floating around both as a freebie and as a "for sale" skin by unscrupulous sellers. i know this because i bought the skin 2 summers ago and wore it for quite a long time. it has some distinctive mole placements.

i have been told that is the reason naughty has not released any new skin line in ages.

it's also the reason that more and more newbie men are beginning to look like close relatives.

I was referring to the skins released the last months. That skin must have been stolen over a year ago? I haven't seen it in those blogs either, and I think I have read all the posts.

How can something you creat say nothing about you? You choice to either change or not change yourself. Be it consously or not. After all jsut looking at how someone has there desktop on there personal computer set up can tell you things about them. Even if it just tells you they don't care to change the defaults.

Privately my friends and I can be cruel or giggle shallowly,
but yah I'm not a fan of the yellowed, default, bad skin buy or some old freeb one,
I don't offer to tell ppls anything about it unless I am talking to them and they steer the convos in that direction of wanting! help in that area.
On another note, some of the most creative, saner ppls I have met are not "the beautiful ppls the beautiful ppls!" and quite happy.

Well for two reasons: Firstly, I put no creative energy into creating my avatar, well very little anyway, and so it really doesn't say much about me. Secondly, if you see an avatar, how would you know if it is a result of someone who intends it to be a good representation of themselves, or if it's someone who views their avatar like I do?

This side of the screen, my appearance/health does matter to me. I run nearly every day , I train with free weights 3-4 times a week, and I rarely eat crappy food - though I do have the odd drinking session out with friends once in a while! So, the fact I make very little effort with my avatar really doesn't say a great deal.

Do I knwo with 100% certianty that the person with the randomized male ava with the gun is a griefer? no. Am I wrong at time. Sure I am. But it does give you a clue about the person. Be it who they are or such in your case how they treat sl. Builders and scripters have a habit of puting very little effort into there avatar outside of turning it a random color at times (well scripters alot more for the random colors for some reason). The more someone is inot the social game aspects the more they put there effert into there avatar. It is a stereotype yes but not a unresonably one.

Which says you treat sl as a tool and treat yoru avatar as such. Not puting effort into him/her/it. I would be very suprized if you had a beutiful person avatar after what you said after all.

I do have a skin and have made a little effort, but very very rarely do I change the clothes on my avatar, because to do so for me is not much different to giving a car a paint job - my avatar is just an object to me.

A GUY! Spoken by a TRUE GUY!

And I might be that way, too, if I were limited to guy clothes!

Hi Coco!

If you haven't seen them, you might like to look at the Alabaster line of skins by Gala Phoenix.

thanks, I'll check that out!

I dropped a solid oak table leaf on my fingers on Thanksgiving. I hope that was the right time to use the F-word, because let me tell you what! That one and several others came out in rapid succession.

Then there was the time a piece of wood blew up in my cabinet shop and I fed my thumb into the drill press. Used it that time. I used it again in the hospital when they were trying (successfully - YAY!!!) to save the end of the thumb.

Slammed the truck door on my hand, Seahawks lost to the Panthers, forgot to use a potholder when I pulled a pie out of the oven, Mom got cancer again, stubbed toe on bedframe at 2:00 am (frequently), Top flew off a bottle of ketchup and the Hells Angel at the table next to me got drenched in ketchup (bad times). Let's see...Donkey draws out with two outs on the bubble...AGAIN! (that makes sense to the poker players, but trust me - this happens two or three times, the F-word is ok).

There's more.

Yeah! Like - drive through Atlanta in rush hour traffic to get to the doctor's appointment across town AT THE CRACK OF DAWN and pay $3 to park and walk forever to the building and finally get up in there to find that "Oh the other office told you the wrong time, it is actually tomorrow."

That word was definitely going through my mind today.

I hit my head the other night on some overhanging cabinets at home. I swear, I think I dented my skull. It was right square on the top where it hurts like crazy, and it was the corner of the cabinet. Dropped the F-word then.

I was in Oregon fishing the Deschutes and slipped on some rocks. Fell on my ass and broke the tip off of my favorite rod - a 5wt Sage. God, what a wonderful flyrod that was. It was big and slow and mushy and could lay a fly down like tucking an angel into bed. I was going to drop the F-word, but I was too busy crying about the rod. I miss her, and I use the F-word every time I think about it.

Yeah...not all 'true' guys think alike.

I am a true guy, who wears guy clothes, likes girls, but I dont limit myself to a t-shirt and torn blue jeans.
I've been known to dance like a fool with nothing on but Gorean male silk breachcloth and arm bands...I once won a dance contest that way...damn I wished we had gotten pictures, nobody believes me!
(Now THAT was spoken by a true guy!)

OMG! I just did that an hour ago while getting supper ready. Forgot the cabinet door was open, went to stand up, and boom!...right on the corner. I expected blood to be pouring out of a deep head wound, but no sign of any. I guess I'm much more hard-headed than I ever thought. I was thinking that word and many others.....however, my almost-5 year old was right there (and he already told me one day that I "piss" him off....don't want him learning other words), so I had to limit myself to "Oh, crap!" Not nearly as satisfying, believe me. However, in the forums and in the context it was used in this thread.....just not good.
I still have a hard time with avatars being judged on appearance...mainly because they are avatars. I guess the world is very looks-based, though, whether it's our first world or our second. Rather sad, if you ask me. Especially since I'm trying to teach my very pretty 12-year old that her looks aren't the most important thing about her, that it's her brain and character which will determine her ultimate success in life. Britney Spears is a good example....gorgeous girl, great body, lots of money, but do you suppose she's a happy person right now? Or that she has happy, secure children? Seems like all of that has been more of a curse to her than a blessing.

I'm a guy and one of my alts is a woman, and if I get a guy trying to pick me up I tell him so, and strangely they still continue to try and pick me up.

UGH! Shame on you then. You invite them by coming in as a female so it kinda makes you worse then the ones hitting on you.

What bugs me a lot is people who open a topic with a subject that doesn't say anything, like "What bugs me a lot" ;)

Get use to it Riffy because it looks like these forums are going to become a junk area for every possible brainless though and topic .....................Until finally The shutdown the forums and create a more Blog like website.

Default skin
01-10-2008 01:08
I still wear the default skin that I started with, I have however added accessories, and fiddled a bit with the sliders, but not too much. I have yet to find a skin, free or not, that I think would suit my look better than what I have now.

I found one skin pack that I almost bought, but I didn't have the desire to have three penises! :)

Every morning in RL, I shower, fix my hair, wear clean clothes and polished shoes. I care what I look like. In general, most people do the same.

Most of my clothes are pressed. I can afford this. I like they way they feel and look on me. I don't expect everyone to have their clothes drycleaned because it is an expense that you can easily do with out and many people just don't like the way it feels. I don't think less of people who wear cheaper clothes. Most of what I have came from Walmart anyway.

What does bother me is when someone in real life who has not bathed in days and wearing the same clothes they had on yesterday come hit on me and then claim it is my fault because I don't find them attractive.

Happens in RL. Happens in SL as well.

I got slammed because I said I expected someone to take at least 5 minutes to work on their looks. I have been told over and over that what really matters is how the person thinks and feels. I agree. I never said anything to the contrary. What I did say was that people who put no effort what so ever in their AV's apearence are also the ones who treat me as if I exist soley for their ammusment. That has been my experience so far. Want me to change my opinion? Find me an example to the contrary. I never said you had to spend money for me to look twice. It is a luxuray I can afford so I spent money. I want to look the best I can. I don't expect anyone to spend one penny on this game if they do not want to. Nor do you have to. There are more free clothes, shapes, skins in this game that ANYONE can look nice. You don't even have to wear a freebie at all to be reasonibly attractive. All I expect is someone to make an effort with what they have. If some one obviously does not give a sh** about themselves, why should I? I guess that makes me bitch queen of the week.

You can look how you like in SL. In a world with furries, robots, goblins, heavily oiled voluptuous women and impossibly over-endowed men, the odd bland complexion is neither here nor there!
