Starling, I really don't think you are trying to offend anyone. You're right that you should be able to ask questions out of curiosity without being attacked. I just don't think you realize that you're being offensive yourself... look through all your posts with an objective eye. Try to put yourself in the place of the reader. If people have been quoting you (personal) it is only because you are the OP. Ex:



If people don't think as you do, they are ignorant or are being stubborn. You do seem like you want to help, but you're reading too much into why someone may not want it.
You didn't simply want to know why people still wore their 'newbie' skin, you needed to tell everyone how ugly you thought they looked. That is the difference between being curious - wanting to learn about another point of view - and being judgemental. This is probably why you might be getting a few snarky remarks...

Hey I understand people want to stick to their original form because they think they can get by with it but if these noobs want jobs say in clubs they can't have those looks and then they go to camping which just is a waste in itself, but that is LL fault for not making lindins more accessible to people with no credit cards. All i wanted to know was why people like those looks so much to me they are awful and i personally cant fuck a guy who looks like that doesnt make me shallow just a preference, its visual stimulation and that is not something that is going to make me enjoy sl sex. Yes i realize that its a PREFERENCE to look noob but people wake up, the noob look is terrible looking, im not attracted to it but maybe some people are, but if people want to stay noob then let them, I just can't appreciate when someone doesnt make an effort

Being a guy (Yes...I am a guy in RL as well as SL) who dreams in color, paints in oil color, renders my original 3D designs in Vue and Bryce, uses Photoshop almost daily...the list of art related things I do goes on and on...I am probably an EXTREEMLY visual person compared to most people... However, I am learning not to base my relationships with other people based on my orientation visually...I would be limiting my universe drastically if I did. The fact that I am also visually impaired and may be blind by the time I hit a ripe old age has not escaped my attention. Think of it this way, if your sight were removed from you in a day, what would the entire visual stimulus mean any more, any way? sure you would miss being able to see, but I think that the mental images you would get just form hearing the sound of someone’s voice could be just as vivid as if you were still able to see. Let us at least humbly appreciate what we have while we have it. And treat each other with honor and respect. I consider my self a lover, if I truly loved, I would never, never, never do anything intentional to hurt someone I loved. And it would not matter to me what they looked like...if I truly loved them. I am a recovering Shallow Hal. And Trout, if you knew the details of how I presented her with the skin upgrade, you would be telling me different, but thanks for those kind words. She did the right thing.

I know all you people think your do gooders by defending the noobs but bottom line is you know looks are important to you in rl and in sl so don't act all high and mighty, your not all perfect either, so get over yourselves

FOr me personally, looks quite truly don't matter in either life. Only thing I care about is weight, since being too overweight is unhealthy, and well.. thats not safe. I dont mind bad spelling and grammer as long as I can understand their point. I cant type and unless I take a moment to think about it dont spell very well ( If I think about it I can though lol ) . If I get into what I write and type very quickly as the words tumble out of my mind and I want to type them as soon as I think them it can look bad ... but my point still is there. Yes you can get on my case about it but no reason to say there is no intellect, that is just rude .

Most of my custom work comes from people trying to "fix" their friend's appearance. Basically someone with an awesome personality that doesn't look so good.

People should look how they want in SL, but many times the way they appear is because they don't know how to achieve the look they'd really like to have.

Of course no one should be judging someone's worth on appearance. But that doesn't you cant notice how they look.

I couldn't give a flying f*ck what someone's avatar looks like; I'm only interested in what people have to say, and what people are capable of creating. The only time I really show any interest in the way an avatar looks is when it is something different, original, and very creative.

You have already taken a couple of analogies made in this thread as personal attacks. It's clear to me that they weren't supposed to be, they were instead supposed to make a point, and if you can't see that, well I'm not sure what else to say to you except: happy SL when it finally opens!

and im not saying i want a chiseled guy or anything looks are not that important to me but a person no matter what has to have some physical attractiveness to them or im nto attracted that is all im saying, so everyone stop gettign so huffy and drink your coffee

I am by far a do-gooder...You may not know much about me, but a do-gooder I am not...I am the kind of guy your mother warned you about.

So Basically Starling you are looking for a good looking guy? Well look no further, but expect me to give you the critical eye as well, after all I AM visually oriented. I am not however an easy F**K. I also expect thoughtful dialogue, occasional gifts, a little personal freedom, no collars. And of course, kind words from time to time. I will not work in a club as a Chippendale dancer, but I have been known to give private performances to a woman who catches my ‘eye’. Who knows...we are both shallow and probably deserve each other.

On the other hand...I am a lot more complex than that...I have yet to meet the woman who is interested in my mind here in SL (Claire is the only exception). For that matter, in RL I am hard pressed to count on one finger the women who are interested in my mind....rather frustrating if you know what I mean. I am not far off when I say that everyone longs to be accepted for who they are, and SL is an extension of RL (or at least we carry it in here with us whether intentional or not)

No offense but how come theres people like you who place so much emphasis on being attractive? I find that really odd. Personally I dont give a rats what people think of my avatars looks, if you dont like my non-photoshopped skin well seeya, go take a walk love. I dont want a partner in SL and never will, I find the whole idea ridiculous especially when you get these people who are dumped constantly and then whinge about how they were wronged. I just think "Jesus will ya get a life, a real one"
Has it ever crossed your mind that not every one wants to look like Ken or Barbie? Some people dont even want to look human!

Ps- Where are these half decent freebie skins? I havent seen them and Ive been doing SL since March 07.
