I immensely enjoyed that show, not going in expecting anything artistic, and not ever having watched CSI before. I feel silly, but I got all tingly every time they used an SL phrase or explained something obvious to us but unknown to the rest of the world, like Linden dollars.

As a landlord, it hadn't occured to me to force prospective tenants into gladatorial combat before they can enter the parcel and look at a rental. I suppose that would be a good way to screen for serious applicants. I think I need to be more evil and megalomaniacal like that landlord.

hahahahaha!

I, too, quite enjoyed the show.

FYI Last night I went into LL Orientation Islands - every one of them that I checked were full - there are over 100 orientation islands, by the way.
Yeah, I observed this too on the map, and thought it was promising, on the premise that CSI viewers drawn to learn more about SL would be more likely long-term residents than those who came to extend their CSI experience. Would be fun to know the relative hit-counts of the CSI web pages, vs hits to secondlife.com pages.

I enjoyed recognizing a few places like the Svarga sim. The differences they portrayed between the RL:SL and CSI:SL were interesting. A lot more people in CSI:SL use voice then what I have seen. LOL
After a distraction, I returned attention to the show and for a moment thought "what a cool build!"... but it was RL NYC. :D

I watched the episode last night once it hit the internet. I was very disappointed. I don't get too upset with shows that take liberties with reality, that's normal. It is a bit odd in this case, though, considering the unrealistic expectations I think it will give many people of SL. I wasn't thrilled with how SL was portrayed either. If I wasnt on here this episode would not have encouraged me to log in. I thought it looked damn silly.

Taking SL out of the picture, I'm not a huge fan of CSI: NY but I thought the episode was terrible. It was very cheesy and horribly done. I'll watch all future SL episodes out of curiosity, but I wasn't impressed.

I popped over to check them out. I was curious if they would be all noobs or seasoned SL players. I was pleasantly surprised to see that almost everyone I clicked on were newly born. Hopefully many will stay around.

Besides all the weirdness and mistakes and post editing mentioned elsewhere. One thing that really struck me was that it almost /wasn't/ an ad for SL. I mean if you didn't know SL existed, the show didn't really tell you that it did (for real). How would you know they didn't just make something up for the show. Even the ad for SL half way through the show really didn't advertise SL directly, it advertised an on-line game version of CSI:NY.

And that was half way though, not sure how many people were even supposed to know that they COULD or "should" sign up. Though SLs exposure onthe show was enourmouse, it's actual /advertisement/ was virtually non existant... Was odd.

Of ourse anyone curious will then find out about it later, but I wonder how many just assumed it was something fake and never bothered :D

That wasn't my perception. The promos during the show talked about CSI:NY in Second Life, used the Second Life logo, and invited people to visit cbs.com to get the dowloiad information. The Second Life identity was featured prominently enough, although the secondlife.com URL was not.

I nipped over. There were quite a lot of people there.

Some were complete newbies.. but they apparantly had no idea how to talk! Nothing on the CSI OI teaches them that, and they don't all have voice.

One of them told me that they had basically finished the CSI game, and were now stuck not knowing what they were supposed to do next.

There are some very bizarre ads there, too. "Stampede Sim Crossing Software?"

I think the greatest disservice the show did was to imply that everyone here only uses voice. I understand why they'd do so for television, but would have been nice to show that regular chat was used also. I can imagine many people without headsets chose to stay away as a result.

You can watch last nights episode on the internet... here:

CSI: NY: Down the Rabbit Hole:

I just watched it and thought it was entertaining. I enjoyed recognizing a few places like the Svarga sim. The differences they portrayed between the RL:SL and CSI:SL were interesting. A lot more people in CSI:SL use voice then what I have seen. LOL

Thanks for that link. I fell asleep last night 1/2 way through. now i see it got better in the second half....and I guess part 2 next week. It's like a fantasy of SL, with worse graphics. Pretty funny in parts. Kinda silly but entertaining.

I think a 42 minute TV drama is nowhere near enough time to hsow an accurate portrayal of SL. What is needed is something more documentarian that isn't hampered by the need for dramatic story devices.

I am there now and confused.
I can't get sound or get the evidence thing no clue where to get hud...something not working.
The dead bunny was interesting.
Definitely new way to present a orientation island but not sure if it really would be helpful if nothing is working or you can recieve the CSI HUD or get sound to work.

I suspect what it means is that it is available, that doesn not mean everyone who could, has signed up for it.

ahh excellent point. I think you might be more right than those other statistics.

Which would mean even less people have it.

I find it impossible to believe that 2 million of CSI's audience could even play SL if they wanted to now.

I agree. That's why I think its so funny at some of the comments about how SL doesn't do this or doesn't do that. Liberties are taken all the time. That was just one that bugged me a little.

For those of you who are very upset at how the show wasn't portrayed accurately.....

*The harbor on Gilligans Island was Marina Del Rey not Hawaii

*The Brady Bunch house was really one story with a fake window upstairs

*The folks on LOST really aren't stranded on an island but are living it up in Hawaii

*Most CSI crime labs are NOT designer decorated with beautiful state of the art monitors

*Here in LA it does get cold and not all the people are young and beautiful.

I'm sorry if I shattered some dreams today. :D

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.
