Everything fails EXCEPT TAKING our money!
I'm pretty sure I've read about LL failing to take as much money as they should have.

Not often but I think it's happened at least once.

Color me baffled. In the past I've encountered (and had the misfortune of having to do business with) companies who issued their concept of "platitudes" regarding service or lack thereof. The most prominent one (a telephone carrier) issued a statement paraphrased as, "In order to serve you better, our hours are 9 am to 4 pm." Unfortunately, what they failed to mention was that they had actually cut 2 hours of working time from their previous schedule. I always wondered how that was serving the public better.

In the same way, I find myself wondering how Linden Lab is "serving us better" by destroying functionality in Second Life on an almost daily basis for the past several weeks. What is the point in SL being "up" if customers are unable to: Login, use the Lindex, perform transactions, teleport, utilize the map, utilize search features, check profiles, communicate effectively, check personal transaction histories, utilize the SL website, and a myriad of other abilities that have been "temporarily disabled" during subjectively labeled "peak hours." The effect of this lack in functionality is a disruption of economy and severe frustration -- a frustration which is not being effectively assuaged by Linden Lab.

As some posters have noted, the customers are not being compensated for this lack of functionality. Our tiers are still due and payable, our classified ads (useless during times of no search functions) are still due and payable; and for premium account members, the fee is still due and payable. Perhaps it would be at least somewhat less onerous if Linden Lab would consider some kind of compensatory plan for its customers at this time, in recognition of the fact that businesses and social events, as well as personal plans have been vastly disrupted by these outages, planned or otherwise.

What do other posters think about this? What type of compensation, if any, would others recommend?

and for that time they double charged half their residents and kept it of the ones who didn`t notice them about (i think we all can remember that time...)

Judging from their latest panic move slashing land prices and screwing over all current land holders, they don't have any extra cash to give away right now.

To let only users who are 'payment info on file' in during peak hours, like they said they'd do a while back. In other words, keeping promises would be a good start.

Have a break, maybe try Opensim for a bit (except I can't seem to get in there either at the moment :/ )
I'm an out of sight out of mind type, I'll be into something else in a short time, SL just a pleasant memory.
I have no interest in Open Sim or any other Virtual World. It seems SL is moving away from the whimsical fun that drew me to it. It's becoming more technical, more involved, more real, not suited for someone who just is looking to start it up and play for an hour or so. It's been something I've felt for a while now, my time inworld dropping off increasingly.

I also just have no faith in Linden as a business, they have no concept of customer service and I don't think they ever will. The entire fabric of SL is changing in my eyes, maybe not necessarily bad, just not what I am looking for.

My best to all on this forum, you've made me laugh, think , get angry, and in a few cases even cry. But I've enjoyed every minute of it. Pie and Panties for everyone.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Thats because the bots aren't people.

If someone is going to be logged off starting with the non-people makes the most sense.

Even if it takes 10 Trafficbots to equal 1 persons worth of resources used.

As far as I see no one got logged off. Just could not get back in. If it would really be the maount of accounts logged in, I would be the first to say: ban bots. But I don't believe it for a moment.

From: Ricky Yates
You are absolutely right. Bots don't generate as much stress on the server as warm bodies do.

But then bots are not very good at keeping the SL economy afloat, either. Premium account holders unable to log on repeatedly may tier down and switch to basic.

I am afraid that a blanket denial of logons is not helping in improving LL's bottom line.

As said above, no one was logged out and no one could log in. Neither bots that got somehow disconnected, neither people. As soon as anyone can give me sensible arguments that state bots are causing the trouble, I would say the rants are right. But so far I haven't.

From: Tegg Bode
Well when things are bad I guess you feel all warm an fuzzy to know the 10 bots using the resources you'd like to be inworld are feeling great and obviously so are those replacing potential customers.
And you think the bots, bouncing from sim to sim at second intervals to search for land, items and vacant camping spots don't use resources?
Put a logger out and watch how many "visitors" come in and out of mainland sims each hour without even rezzing.

Tegg, it's kinda sad to be jealous towards a bot ;) And they are not using much resources as far as I can tell, at least not static ones like traffic bots.
You are right about bots that bounce around of course, I have no clue how many that would be. They DO use resources and could add to the load on the servers.

Then Brenda. Girl, the forums will not be the same without you. And in-world, no one will make fun of my burned lap. But if you find it time to leave, so be it. You will be missed by many. Somehow I doubt you will miss many :) At most a few. All I can say: So long and thanks for all the panties.

It's all good. All good things come to an end, and the beauty of SL is that we get to decide when that is for the most part. Good luck and keep well. :)

Jealous towards a bot when I got a 100 &1 things to do and can't get inworld? It's sorta like sitting around looking at a can't login screen to CoH or WoW, talking to the rest of the team in skype, only half of them inworld telling you they are watching teams of goldfarming bots slaughtering everything for the item drops on the run you guys want to do..

Agreed. They could have prioritised premium accounts or even concierge. However, the preference seems to go towards the "always on" bots.

It's actions like these which make even staunch SL fans rethink where to allocate their free time.

yep the always on campers and bots..
back in the fall? or Summer when they said they may start throttling log ins it was supposed to be premium and lock out the free accounts... not the camping fools and bots

What I found strange is this occurred during the day 12 PST is this now the prime time? that would tell me that the user base has truly shifted to a Euro time.

Well there was that time (July, I think it was - you can see the dip in premiums there) when something was making it impossible for people to give them money.

I chalked that up to probably THE most ridiculous thing any company could ever foul up.

Would be nice if they at least TOLD me IN-GAME that if I rebooted I would not be allowed to log back in !

It would be nice if they told us in-game that they were shutting off transactions, then I wouldn't have tried to buy something and gotten the good ol' "stale transaction" message. Luckily my L$ didn't poof, or I would've been REALLY mad.

I'm a technical type, and I couldn't agree more. I can live with the need to be a PC expert, it's not uncommon with 3D rendering.

Why the UI has to require endless tutorials is beyond me. I'm fairly adept, and I still learn something from some of Torley's tutorials. Bah.

The fact that she represents the real world user is exactly why she is disappearing. Brenda is just one that we actually know is leaving, unlike the thousands that are just leaving quietly every month out of frustration with performance. And LL's response is to try to Dazzle us.

It will take a technical miracle to bring back the casual user. Can the Grid be saved?
