Based on the previous thread. What would you need to feel like a fairy or a kid or a cowboy or a ninja or a princess or an architect or whatever appeals?

Just cruising passed forums and saw thread,
Suspension of disbelief. Freedom of expression. No interference by anyone. No expectations by others. Imagination (Rare as water from teh moon) Cynical these days so suspect none of above will happen. Back to sl for me. _____________________

Can't answer that. SL is far too subjective (for me)
I have no problem immersing into a 'game' per say....where I have to choose a character or become 'the' main character in order to play. But that's the difference.....SL isn't a 'game' so it doesn't have the same kind of appeal for total RP. I suppose there are too many variables in SL...too many outs.....too many ways for a person to totally deviate from the plot/character/story. There's no boundaries which makes it difficult for something to sustain. If I had to break it down....I don' WANT the option of knowing any RL details about other characters......I want creative control over the character yes.....but clear boundaries with-in the story itself.....limitations that define the 'game'. If that makes sense.... ![]() |

Well, playing a role isn't the same as playing a game. My alt frequented Caledon for a time. He found the residents there are fairly into the role, though it's not really a game. It's a setting and a community. They are inordinately polite to one another, call each other Mr. and Mrs. or Miss, etc. and the ladies talk about swooning in IM at the mention of gentlemen in uniform. It becomes easier to fall into a role if you're immersed in the ambience of it.
So I voted that I need others to play along with the role. The look helps too, but only in context of the setting. If you go to Dance Island, for instance, dressed like an elf, you're not likely to feel very fae. |

I never figured I needed to have any role in SL other than just being me and having fun shopping, dancing, chatting, flirting.....

I've done a bit of roleplay in SL and it's only fun if other people are participating too.

I've done a bit of roleplay in SL and it's only fun if other people are participating too. I agree. I used to rub up against people whilst making slurping noises and touching myself, but rapidly learnt it's no fun unless they're reciprocating. And guys, "Go away you disgusting freak!" is not reciprocating, ok? You'd think some of the SL old timers would have got the hang of R/P by now.... |

A good name is nice, but not absolutely necessary.
But the outfits, the being able to do... I mean, look at some of the biker sims: you need a bike and a road. The outfits are more or less extra. Yesterday I went looking for a roller derby in SL, and I know what I wanted to see (but did not find): a rink, four-wheel roller skates, team outfits, headgear and pads, and of course the ability to knock other players (hopefully) off the track. Does that answer the question? _____________________

Is this about roles, or role play? The two don't seem like the same thing to me.
I picked the first option, grudgingly. My "role" in SL is a succubus, and occasionally dress the part. But not always. And usually look somewhere between the two extremes. I don't do much else wrt that role, yet it still defines me in SL. *shrugs* Of course, I have other roles in SL. I'm a shopper, and a scripter (well, getting started), a Domme, a friend, a thorn in one or two people's sides, probably more things if I put my mind to defining myself. I don't dress those parts. I just ... am. _____________________

Love, that's a very interesting response. Would you still feel like a Domme in SL if no one else was attracted or interested?

My role is content creator.
What would I need for my role? Neck attachment points. Otherwise, I'm fine, thank you ![]() _____________________

i used to do a lot of RP before coming to SL..i never saw so many rules in my life and so many were godmodding..
i just can't RP with someone that comes with another list of their personal rules attached to the actual rules.. i must have it this way and that way and you must be like this for us to role play.. there are just too many that think it is a competition rather than playing a role.so i figured none of them were good enough for me and ventured off into the world to spread the Ceka luvv enjoying my typos and grammar mistakes hahahaha _____________________

There you go, nibbling on toes again! That's why I can't wear open-toed shoes anymore! ![]() For me, I don't think I could ever get past the stigma that it isn't real. I'm too logical I guess! But honey, nothing is real.. what you perceive as "real" is made up by your imagination working on sensory information. The source of the sensory information (from the window, from the screen, or from your mind) is irrelevant in this context. If you get 100% logical about it, the only conclusion you can arrive at is that you can't, by using logical means alone, determine a difference between inner and outer reality. So perhaps it isn't actually being too logical that's your problem, but the difficulty in extending the suspension of disbelief that is necessary. Are you able to enjoy movies or books? I'm not suggesting that anyone should ignore the outer reality in favor of the inner reality, though - there are means to distinguish between RL and SL and roleplay, and RL should always come first. |

Small adjustments when things really need it are also fine. But some RP places simply will not stop changing things based on what one person is trying to impose on all others. You have to let go of the creation and let it breath. I know one place that the owner kept inventing more and more back story and we pulled out since we were hit with major changes every time we logged on. Another place is going that way IMO, because the owner is trying to force the RP river to flow upstream from what everyone else is doing. I think a successful RP creator has to have an attitude of enjoying the unexpected of what happens with and in their creation. |

Love, that's a very interesting response. Would you still feel like a Domme in SL if no one else was attracted or interested? I honestly can't think of what someone possibly could do to make themselves completely uninteresting as a Domme. There are hordes of submissives looking for a Domme out there, whatever the Domme does or looks like, someone will be into it. I really can't think of a single thing! |
