From: Evizu Yuitza Only had a few lessons using SL so am a beginner. I don't see any problem with asking people for some help. And ye seeing as SL is an imitation of RL I should have assumed that like their are mindless morons in RL there will be mindless morons in SL. Maybe one day they'll learn that trying to be stupid isn't cool, it just makes me laugh even harder. If you take some time and look (search word - survey) you will find that we get about 2 requests a week to complete surveys for this or that school project. I might add, presentation is everything And even the ones which are carefully thought out and worded don't get a lot of positive response. You might take a lesson, dear, from some of them.

I opted not to get into the things I've BEEN so much as things I've DONE. I've been all kinds of things in just the last week At various points in time, I've been a Chocobo, an NES, the concept of deception, a rock, Audrey 2, a dinosaur, a dodo, a queen sized bed, a wad of paper, a bowl of chocolate ice cream, an Oompa Loompa, and an anthropomorphic Wii.

From: Evizu Yuitza Wasn't talking to you Porky, talking to the vast majority of the other idiots. Is that how they teach you to win friends and influence people at your university? This is getting funnier each time ETA - If we're "idiots" - how come YOU'RE the one asking US about S/L.

Heh, you win. Reminds me of someone I knew in a previous world, who was an orange tree, a cricket, a four poster bed, a reverie of hunting, and seven musical notes.

1 - What do you use S/L for? Entertainment. 2 - What do you think is good about S/L? It's entertaining. 3 - Why is S/L good to use? It's entertaining. (And the best written, least buggy software I've ever seen.) From: Evizu Yuitza If you don't want to answer the questions then its simple, don't reply to this thread. Now that's a sign of someone who's new to these forums.

Straightforward questions, so I'll answer: 1 - What do you use S/L for?............. Entertainment, creativity.
2 - What do you think is good about S/L? ............. If you want to visit a virtual world, there isn't a better one. Others might have fewer glitches than SL but they are less realistic and with fewer things you can do. Also SL appears to be 'going somewhere' as it gradually becomes more sophisticated - for me the next big thing would be proper shadows. 3 - Why is S/L good to use?............. Versatility and the ability of users to create their own stuff.

From: Ceka Cianci 1.T 2.F 3.T god i hope i pass!! My vote for best answer! Has anyone noticed that we've fallen into the OP's way of writing SL as S/L? I even did it in my post!

From: Maya Remblai ...I've gone skydiving, ridden a horse, BEEN a horse, watched some ninjas fight, flown a log, and currently own Jupiter.... You own Jupiter? Sheesh. Talk about your undesirable real estate. There's not even any LAND there. Just atmosphere. Lots and lots and LOTS of atmosphere. Besides, I'm crashing a comet into it on Thursday.

lol. I think you picked up on the exact same thing I did in her statement. The way she phrased it, you are an idiot to. She just was referring specifically to us other idiots, so you're off the hook. To the OP. I'm sorry you aren't getting the response you wanted, but if you had even done a basic search of the forum before posting your questions, you would have seen that we get peppered with surveys and the like on a constant basis, and the response to yours was mild by comparison. Part of doing any sort of research is knowing your audience, and you didn't. Another part is defining your objective and crafting your questions around that objective so you can focus your research properly. You don't seem to have done that at all. These questions really reflect very little thought or work. You are much more likely to get a favorable response if it looks like you have put some real effort into your project and you aren't relying on us to do your work for you. I'm not trying to give you a hard time here. I'm just trying to illustrate that your approach was poor, and I would point out that your response to the inevitable response was even worse. You have probably poisoned the well here to the point where you cannot expect any reasonably accurate responses. I would abandon this aspect of your project entirely - it's a waste of time at this point. Concentrate on in-world interaction with people, and really try hard to narrow down your subject. Second Life is to large to deal with in generic terms and expect any sort of legitimate academic value. Best of luck.

Actually, that's a common misconception. As you can see from the following photo, Jupiter actually has a modest sized bit of land inside it, albeit rather flat. It makes an excellent workshop, as you can see from the random crap laying around. http://dragonkeepcreations.com/images/jupiter_interior.jpgIt also only has one moon, directly above the north pole. The moon has a lovely tropical climate, a nice fishing spot and swimming pool, and a wide screen TV. http://dragonkeepcreations.com/images/jupiter_island.jpgFrom: Lindal Kidd Besides, I'm crashing a comet into it on Thursday.
I doubt that will phase it much, it's had airplanes, dragons, and a flying sculpty noob crash into it before. Besides, it turns phantom for thirty seconds if you touch it

From: Novis Dyrssen No, it's one step away from S/M. And Evizu, calling the people you want to research idiots is not likely to get you more recipients, y'know. Well, ask stupid questions and you'll get stupid answers. These so-called "researchers' should know by now -and if they don't they soon will- that coming into these forums with their "research questions" is dangerous to their egos.

From: Evizu Yuitza Hey guys am doing some research on S/L. Looking for some answers to a few questions I have. Research? What kind and for whom? Will it be published? People never seem to come back with a link to the article/report. (If you've answered those things, sorry. I'm in a rush.) 1 - What do you use S/L for? Fun. 2 - What do you think is good about S/L? People from all over the world can use Second Life to relax, to create, to meet and chat with people from, well, all over the world. I think for many, SL answers what is missing from their life, and for many others, it expands it. 3 - Why is S/L good to use? It is only good to use if one finds that it answers a need of some sort. Fun, relaxation, creativity, socialisation. Those seem to be the main attributes users find attractive about SL. At least, those I've met in-world.

Actually, an important point taht teh OP should include is teh actual question they are answering from their prof or their main thesis/argument. I am not a univ. scholar BUT I do sit in on discussions of a business nature (on teh arts) and generally apply more interest (and input) when a person asks a well-formulated question that explains WHY they are asking it. So, what will this information provide for teh scholar (in this case) or the artist (in my case) - ie. what will the product be? The process is matter-of-fact; it's teh findings that are paramount (ie. the product).
