What's S/L? Is it related to A/S/L?

No, it's one step away from S/M. :p

And Evizu, calling the people you want to research idiots is not likely to get you more recipients, y'know. If you don't even get the simple fact that a few of us are tired of "studies" and "questionnaires" because we literally had one every day for the last few weeks... then I doubt your study is gonna turn out very good.

If you don't want to answer the questions then its simple, don't reply to this thread.

And now that you've said this, all the trolls will come. I'm guessing you've only experienced SL as your school allows you to - generally quite restricted, and not much like "real" SL. There are a lot of unofficial rules in world, and here on the forum. Asking for something and then complaining about the silly responses you'll inevitably get, is one of the big no-nos. For a lot of people (self included) SL is about having fun, and it's often silly (remember how I said I currently own Jupiter?) If you're really doing research, pay attention to all the responses. Even the silly ones are "right".

Hey guys am doing some research on S/L. Looking for some answers to a few questions I have.

1 - What do you use S/L for?

2 - What do you think is good about S/L?

3 - Why is S/L good to use?

All help appreciated guys! Ty! :)

1. Recording sales invoices, receipts, credit notes and journal entries.
2. It is more fun than the purchase ledger; that is full of payments out.
3. It is where our customer records are kept, and our customers are our life blood.

yes, but you missed the part of you coming here in that. Of course the folks who regularly inhabit these forums are gonna read your thread, especially because it did not say "university survey" or whatnot in the title. Du-uhh.

Lemme as you this. Have you ever used Second Life (which is abbreviated "SL" - no slash necessary), or did you jes decide we'd make a good little test bed for ya? 'cuz it feels like you dun have any idea what SL is, an yet yer doin a survey with no idea.

I do it cuz it's fun, an I enjoy it. I could go deeper, but that's at the heart of it all, no?

2. That I can have mindless fun and do goofy stufff.

Only had a few lessons using SL so am a beginner. I don't see any problem with asking people for some help. And ye seeing as SL is an imitation of RL I should have assumed that like their are mindless morons in RL there will be mindless morons in SL. Maybe one day they'll learn that trying to be stupid isn't cool, it just makes me laugh even harder.

If you are serious, you may want to rephrase the questions. They are pretty much repetitive, the answer to 1 can apply to all three. But what do I know. We weren't allowed to study computer games when I was in College. We wasted time with History, Math, and Science for Gosh Sakes!

I don't see any problem with asking people for some help.

But you weren't asking for help, you were asking what we do with our own SLives, which is rather nosy. If you'd come in and asked something like how to open a box or where to go for lessons on X, you would have gotten plenty of helpful advice.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Regardless of whether you had to answer the questions or not, wouldn't you find it nosy if some RL stranger wandered up and started asking you random questions about your life? And even if you were OK with the first person or two who did it, wouldn't you get annoyed by the time the 10th rolled around and started asking the same things?

Wasn't talking to you Porky, talking to the vast majority of the other idiots.

Great job there, coming to a forum and then insulting the very people you are asking to help you, bravo, well done. Either you've never participated in an internet forum before and if that is the case have learned a valuable lesson or you're simply confused as to the identity of the idiot. Good luck with your survey.

Yeah, that'll help.

Since you asked so nicely,

1. Entertainment.
2. Hot tentacle and/or werewolf sex
3. It's entertaining.

If I may, I'll offer a bit of advice: when you come into a forum with a regular crowd and get flippant answers, it's usually best to either ignore them or take them in good humor. Taking the silliness personally and being insulting in return comes across very badly, particularly from someone asking for help. Case in point: I almost always fill in surveys, except when I think a post is a duplicate of one I've answered before and don't want to skew the results. But I'm hesitating now because you've been curt and dismissive of my friends, and I'd hate to give you a "lame excuse" for a reply. To answer your questions:

1. I use SL for 3D modeling (building), for exploring, for communicating with friends from all over the world, and for entertaining myself.

2. User-created content. International user base. The ability to immerse myself in activities such as ballroom dancing, skiing, horseback riding, and flying that aren't easily fit into my everyday life. A wardrobe to die for and a different house every week if I want one, including a derelict ship on a platform high in the sky. Silliness and whimsy.
Oh, and camera controls. It would be so great to be able to peek around corners and look up on top of the roof whenever I wanted.

3. SL is good to use because it allows and encourages user-created content. It's immersive and allows users to engage in an extremely broad range of activities. It can be inexpensive, especially compared to many kinds of RL entertainment.

I hope these answers are helpful. But if you'll excuse me, I think I need to go catch up with Trout and see what I need to do to get licensed as a paid survey-taker...

Serious response here:

If you would like to get your questions answered, why not go inworld and talk to people? Don't necessarily ask those questions, but just talk to people in general. You can get what you need in any conversation.

I would suggest going to Sweethearts Jazz and IMing people. Lots of folks there are friendly and very willing to talk to you about their lives.

Not so much in a forum, where we get this same set of questions from a different person each day.

That's the old fashioned way of studying, actually doing the work. This is the equivalent of buying your term paper.

I would like to take the opportunity to point out to the OP that my response to the questions were truthful and serious. If you don't believe me that's your problem, and would show your lack of interest and lack of experience. Some more things I've done in SL:

Made a cave and placed my dragon hoard of gold, jewels, and video game memorabilia inside it

Gave Mars to a friend (he later misplaced it)

Set people on fire, dropped anvils on them, and thrown toilet paper at them

Been captured in a Pokeball

Ridden an elephant, a dolphin, a llama, and an avocado

Gone fishing and caught Nessie, Moby Dick, a LOLcat, and a lot of sushi

Driven cars, airplanes, a flying pirate ship, a log, a palm tree, and a plywood cube

Danced in Hell (There were a lot of furries there, but they couldn't yiff because it was a PG sim)

Been Batman

Literally lost my head

Been in a tower of internet daemons, trying to reach a giant avocado

Created and played a game in which the object was to steal sheep

The list could go on and on :D
