Hey guys am doing some research on S/L. Looking for some answers to a few questions I have.

1 - What do you use S/L for?

2 - What do you think is good about S/L?

3 - Why is S/L good to use?

1. Are you not even bothering to come up with an excuse to pester us with these, like the last dozen "researchers" did?

1 - I'm a Sheffield University stydent doing a presentation on S/L just asking a few questions.

2 - Why would I pay you? I'm just asking for some help.

3 - Yes I use S/L in classes and I'm an iSchool student on it.

See, I know I'm starting to sound cranky about this topic, but lately there has been a flood of threads like yours, at least one every day. We're tired of studies, papers, questionnaires, which you would have known already if you had even flipped one or two pages through the forum entries. (Guess one could call that sloppy research already... )

And if you're not even willing to offer a few Lindens to the people who are supposed to "help you out" with YOUR research... well, d'uh. Less (friendly) answers you're gonna get this way.

What's S/L? Is it related to A/S/L?

Because the zillion other "researchers" did. Paltry amounts, yes, but they did offer pay. Search "survey" here and you'll probably get your answers, there's a new survey practically every day, and most ask the same simple questions. Most of them are also humorously unaware of how SL works at all ("Which sliders do you use for your avatar?" My avatar doesn't use them at all, it's not human!)

I, like most here, don't see much point in most such surveys, but I will answer your questions.

1 - What do you use S/L for?

Creating mostly. I enjoy bringing my creatures to life as avatars and getting to "be" them.


2 - What do you think is good S/L?

One of the Uplift novels had a question like that. A client asked an elder Quantal "what to expect", and the answer was "Everything." SL is what you make it. I've gone skydiving, ridden a horse, BEEN a horse, watched some ninjas fight, flown a log, and currently own Jupiter.

3 - Why is S/L good to use?

There isn't any other platform that offers what SL does. Some allow building, but not commerce. Some allow commerce but no creativity. It has its flaws, but it's all there is so I'm sticking with it.

EDIT: lol Ann beat me to it. It's "SL" or "Second Life", not "S/L".

I am a now professionally licensed survey taker. I'm also a professional issuer of professional licenses, so I was able to license myself. Handy.

At any rate, it is against my code of conduct to do surveys for free. I'm sure you wouldn't want me to break my code, so please remit the money asap.

Maybe we should start asking a few questions of our own in future. Turn the tables a bit. I think we should set a base entry exam. Ten simple questions that anyone who has played SL for a month would know the answer to. 10 questions and if they score 8 out of 10 we take the survey.

These three question are all the same question phrased differently. I'll answer them by asking a question of my own because I'm feeling a bit Zen today.

What do you use your first life for? What good is it?

Not being flippant this time. I have a lot of goals in my first life and it's the same with my second (and er . . . third, etc), to love and be loved, primarily. Also to create. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, creativity is the sincerest form of worship. Also we must be receptacles of other's creativity so it doesn't exist in a vacuum.

There you have it. The meaning of Life and SL. [Edit: according to one geek.]
