New mainland continent: move the existing adult stuff or leave open to PG-only?

Drat.. Posted in the Further Discussions forum but apparently I can't post there..

So, what do people think? Feel free to only vote and not post - there's a bunch of other threads for discussions..

Moving the PG only folks there will be easier I think. The other way around would leave the mainland deserted.

Even having read those threads, I have no idea what you're actually asking.

LL is, apparently, making a new mainland continent.

They are, apparently, thinking of moving existing very-adult mainland stuff to that new continent.

Several people, myself included, think it might be a better/easier idea to make the new continent be PG-only and open to anybody with a PG build who wants to move there.

The poll is for which way people think are best. Should LL move the existing naughty stuff to the new mainland or should they leave the existing mainland as it is and have the new mainland open to anybody PG-only that wants to be there?

But i have to vote for "PG / Business" continent. It would be far easier to do and it would cause zero drama.

But I am sure, as usual, LL is far along in their plans before cluing us in. It will be tough to change their direction now.

The possible answers are not very clear. Also I do not judge what consenting adults do so I wouldn't want to say "perv island" even in jest.

I voted for "Pie!" for all the usual reasons.

I read their starting point differently though: they want to people who don't want to be confronted with extreme content (be it sexual or violent) to have the option of *not* accidentally runing into it anyway. Creating a (P)G-only continent doesn't solve that problem since it's about more than what builds neighbour your parcel.

Related, they also want to push through age verification so if the choice is to go with a new PG mainland then the old mainland would become Adult and inaccessible to the majority of residents and would force far more stores to move than if you force the adult ones to move.

It seems LL has already decided that someone to move and the adult businesses would be the smallest group, espeicially if as Blondin said nudism falls under mature rather than adult.

I agree they want to push through some sort of verification, but it looks much more lax than what they tried before. In addition to the age verification system it looks like providing payment info to either LL or xStreet in the form of a credit card or Paypal will be enough. If that is true I think a majority of people will end up verified with at least one of their accounts.

(I'll have to dig around for the posts about how to verify, which will take a minute.)

Most people have one form of payment. Not everyone wants to give the extra info required by Paypal in order to be Paypal accepted by LL.

(PS this is still kinda spooky - "only by payment info is enough" still means your RL data is traceable. Harder than through some third party data collecting firm, true, but traceable, and not just via IP.)

So if you liked sunning your alt on a nude beach in lovely anonymity, from time to time, better plan on a paler skin.

I wouldn't put it past them to not do that on purpose and then tighten things up later on .

I'd think their primary goal right now is to push everything in the "PG", "M" and "Adult" boxes and having everyone and their dog be able to age-verify certainly helps with people flagging their content voluntarily.

Once everything is flagged they have that much more leeway to pressure people to jump whatever new age verification hoops they come up with because denying access is already in place.

There is no floor, I think. Even L$0/sq.m. won't sell unless tier is dramatically reduced on the existing continents.

And that's because we don't have to be a perv to live on Pervonia--that part is optional. Sure, we'll have to do some kind of minimal age/ID thing, but it's *not required* to have sex, drugs, or violence on Pervonia.

On the other hand, it will be *forbidden* to do something on every other continent. We don't know what that "something" is, nor what it will be redefined to mean six months from now. But whatever it is, heaven forfend if one day we're overtaken by passion and do those Forbidden things.

Who's going to stay under those conditions? Kid avatars (whether they want to or not), a few ragtag businesses and basket-case institutions too poor to have their own islands, a handful of "respectable" alts of everyone else, and Linden Village. That might fill about 20% of Sansara. Maybe.
