Isn't this setting now also in preferences?
I use only v1.22.11 and so know nothing of what is in later versions. It is not in preferences in v1.22.11.

I have always assumed that everybody was nodding because they agreed with me. ;)

Pep (has never seen anyone shake their head at what he's said. )

My AO has a habit of making me smirk. The animations are set to cycle randomly, but it seems to have a mind of its own and the timing is often brilliant ;)

I can't help with the head nodding as my AO seems to circumvent that.

try this fixed head animation, it works quite well at keeping the head still:

Edit: its free.

I'm sick to death of being forced either to remove the sit animations from my AO or else turn off the AO on the fly when sitting on something with a lower priority than the one in my AO.
A work-round is to use this, or something based on it, as an alternative to existing sit scripts http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/AO_Overriding_Pose_Ball

Ever looked at the text chat tab in preferences? There is a checkbox to disable the typing animation. Also in 1.22.11...

Can the animation be disabled, but not the sound effect - without resorting to a script?

Nope. It's the default typing animation, rather than the typing itself, that triggers the viewer to start the sound. That animation is the only way a script can tell someone is typing too :/

It's under the text chat tab. It was added in 1.21 so you have it. In any case it doesn't touch the nod, the only time the viewer won't send that is if the chat is (only) an active gesture trigger or the channel is nonzero.

I think the nodding is cute. It's probably the only default animation that I actually like.

Speaking of default animations ... whatever happened to the plans to kill the duck-walk?

Jesse Linden went over to Sony not long after posting that, and no one else took ownership.

A tiny bit more on the status here:

Great meeting. Just like the previous one.
A lot of talk and nothing happens.

LL can introducce Windlight, Voice, phone calls to your avatar, whatever --- but they can't change *one* simple f'ing animation.
Is it that this is being blocked by Linden alts or friends who sell walk animations?

This is one simple thing that would make a huge improvement to everyone's experience. That duck-walk is in-your-face freakoid. WTF????

Yes, it's quite baffling why they can't accomplish anything so simple. Thanks, Viktoria, at least I was able to vote for this related jira ...

You guys have given me a lot to read since I went to bed last night!

I would like to echo the question regarding how to know the priority level of a given animation. What is the risk of one being too high-priority?

It does seems as if the nod ought to be in the list of options in the debug box...that would make sense. However it sounds like it isn't.

I was grateful to the people on Help People Island who got me straighted out right out of the box regarding having a free walking animation to override the duck walk and also turning off the typing. You can imagine what I thought of the typing.

BTW, Scylla: TY! I will buy Vista animations the next time I get some Ls.

If you do that you'll be talking in channel 1 and no one will hear (unless they have a channel scanner). I think you meant "/" but that still leaves the head to nod unless you have a high priority animation on your AO as you said.

Don't worry AK, you'll eventually ignore it.

I meant /0 of course, brain dead posting. Thanks for pointing out my goof :)

There is a setting somewhere in the advanced menu for showing the priority of animations as they play inworld ... "show animation info" I think. You have to actually play the animation and then it will tell you in hovertext over your head. I go through mine doing this and, if they are moddable, I add the priority number to the end of the name.

Higher priority animations override lower priority ones, however not all animations affect all parts of the avatar. Sometimes only parts of the avatar are animated so that a high priority animation blends with lower priority ones that are already playing. It's quite complicated and I am not the best person to explain it all really, but, for instance, the typing anim is high priority and, in combination with a lower priority sitting or lying down anim, can cause your avatar to lurch backwards through the chair whenever you start typing. On the other hand, a priority 4 static pose, if it animates every part of your avatar, will override head movements and even breathing, so you look like a rigid statue.

Sometimes, the typing anim can be useful. If somebody is typing a long sentence, at least you know they are still there.

Is it Lear that makes animations? Fan the blingy rings, we really do need a proper finger waving animation to be combined with smirks and glares. :)
