Curious.....after reading about issues that consistently annoy most of you....why do you bother coming to a second life....if you're frustrated and annoyed every day?
I realize everyone drops in for a different reason....but isn't the across the board reason to escape the confinements and frustrations of your first life? And expand your horizons? Whether it be for social or business purposes?
If it's for social reasons...why would you get so upset about drama (as I see posted in every other profile).....can you not just let the people who enjoy drama have it, and go about your socializing? Why would you spend time in a second life if you are annoyed by drama all day? Can you not get that in your first life? And why can't you just ignore it, and go about having fun?
If it's for business reasons....it seems that it would be so frustrating to have to worry about your competitors and what they are doing all day long.....can you not do that in your first life? The rules, the regulations, the ethical issues.....why not just deal with that in a real life business and make ten times as much money?
And are they really competitors? Did you create them as competitors in your mind? They have their brand of enjoyment....you have yours. Can you not just enjoy whatever business you created, go about it....if it works, it works....if it stops being enjoyable, can you try exploring another aspect of your second life that would bring you more enjoyment? If you have to compare your business to another all day long, and worry and get frustrated....is that enjoyment?
If you're annoyed by something as simple as clicking a few blue boxes and reading an extra line of chat....just how enjoyable can this be for you?
Isn't the idea to use your imagination and dream and explore? If you end up with the same frustrations here, as you had in first life....what is the point? Aren't you simply doubling your frustrations?
Can you not imagine and dream that you are not frustrated and annoyed by every little detail?

Who post on the forums is a small percentage of SL residents. I think the question should really be why bother to post about drama in SL here on the forums? for I am sure a much bigger percentage has drama, we just don't know about it.

When RL annoys me and gets me down, I vent to friends. Same here. BTW, that was quite a LONG post you made. I guess you too, have some gripes

Could be that its like a letter sent to a politician. They assume that each person who bothers to write a letter represents 10 people who feel as strongly and didn't send a letter and a number more who kinda feel the same way. (The number might be different in different situations.). The forum could be a representative sample and useful for LL to pay attention to for that reason. The only problem is that there are often lurkers who may not agree but fear being ganged up upon if they post a dissenting opinion. I wonder if most of the forum posters are posting from work during the day? Do many people post when they are home instead of being in SL? I do sometimes because I find the forums really informative and learning to respond to opinions I don't agree with good for keeping my mind flexible. And often I have changed my opinion because what I have read here!

The problem with drama is that, unlike some other things, ignoring drama doesn't make you immune to its effects. Think of Second Life as a swimming pool, and you're lying on a chaise at poolside catching up on your tan. "Drama" is the really obnoxious fat kid that suddenly shows up. Sure, you can ignore his voice and pretend he isn't there...but when he cannonballs into the pool, you're getting soaked whether you've been ignoring him or not.

Two of the 3 years of my sl life was somewhat drama filled. Most recently was the lose of our home and business. Which, btw Will and I purchased our own sim and are in the rebuilding process. So that removed a layer of potential drama right there.
My experience taught me to stay away from drama magnets. You know the type, people that drama just seems to swirl around them like some funnel cloud. Just yesterday, I sent a friend of mine one of those pinch notecards and he declined it. So, I was teasing him about declining it and whoa he just blew up. He went on this rant about how he was tired of sl life and how people wronged him and on and on. Funny thing is, he wronged me a year or so back. DRAMA ALERT!!!!! I almost did what every drama free person would, close the chat window. But, thinking I was being a good friend, I asked did he just want to vent and I listen. Then he said in a very nasty way, "well, I'm glad you are still happy". I told him yes I am and will not stop trying to bring a smile to others. He never responded back.
So, yes I am still happy despite what happened to us. However, like in rl you have to learn coping skills to adapt if you want to get along in sl life. But, there are those who are not happy unless they have something to complain about.
Like Mickey said, if one finds sl so frustrating and annoying then just check out. I'm sure there are 100 other drama magnets there ready to take your place.

From: Ghosty Kips Why does this annoy you? Just caught the fact that others' constant annoyances can effect your own enjoyment, if you don't put some safety checks into place. Not new news. Changed up quite a few things in order to avoid annoying "some".....which is never-ending.....watched some others do the same.....then realized, that's just insane, considering the whole scheme of things. Call it a light bulb moment. Just hope some others out there flip the switch on that light bulb. In fairness...tried to empathize and put my head into the head of someone who was annoyed by details here, every day...and can't seem to do it....just seems odd that you would want to be annoyed twice in RL and SL....hence the questions.

The people who put "no drama" in their profile are usually the worst offenders. Which is to say, they thrive on the drama, and are probably here *for* the drama.

I'm not opposed to all drama....some times a person's Passion for an issue, is confused with drama...and I'm all for that passion...that's when you learn about things.

hey, Mickey... SL mirrors RL. RL has Drama...so do we. RL has people worried about their businesses, and about the competition...so do we. It's like the software boffins tell you..."It's not a bug. It's a feature."

Well there's a good point being made. I got tier of nearly 9000 a month and what some would consider significant income coming from my grid business. Though upon login, everyone else's agenda but my own seems to be the issue of the day, and I spend most of my time listening to people and trying to be fair, myself. And typing real fast into lotsa IM windows. Does that mean I get to be drama? laughs Of course not. But yeah there is something to be said about perspective. To most starry eyed new residents, the world is wonderful, right and good. Then they turn into bitter oldbies like us! We all earn our wrinkles one way or another. Sometimes it's good to just take a deep breath. I saw a study somewhere the other day and it said optimists lived longer.

It's like the software boffins tell you..."It's not a bug. It's a feature." Yeah, I know. I have reason to worry about SL business, since it pays a portion of RL bills....understand that aspect totally.....but in an effort to enhance that even farther....will get caught up in overanalyzing methods, generally based on those annoyed....as the ones who are not annoyed are too busy enjoying either life to complain..... .....that's when it hit that when I was isolated in the workshop and store....just doing what comes natural and enjoyable....and not worrying about what everyone else was doing or thinking.....it flowed so much better....is much more enjoyable that way.....even more productive..... That's pretty much the core of this message.....and the reason I ran the questions by.....to plant a seed....might be a good idea to ignore the consistently annoyed....and go about your enjoyment.

Just like any pastime, there are things that are enjoyable and things that aren't. I enjoy a good party, but sometimes someone shows up who is a drag or I drink too much and want to curl up and die hugging the toilet. Why don't I stop having parties? Hmm... I guess the benefits outway the occasional downsides. Second Life is the same way for me. I suppose if it ever got to the point where the bad stuff outweighed the negative, then I'd quit, but I enjoy it too much to do that so far.
Do I need to demonstrate more examples?

This. I ask myself the same thing at times - if they hate it so much- GO AWAY! And let me enjoy it- Fortunately, I only see that here in the forums. My friends in-world so far are gloriously drama-free. And here, I just don't read beyond the first - "oh pity me SL sux and LL is out to get me personally" sentence.
