i didn't know about the edge until 2006..but i loved going there..
it was nice back then because there were not so many clubs and if you found a new club you liked you could add it to the circuit.and if you left without getting a clubs name it was just a matter of typing in the search .club or dancing and being able to find it again.. now the search is flooded with way too many clubs cheating the search and if you don't have the name fat chance on finding it again.. i liked the edge because it was about going there and having fun without all the crap in clubs these days to get your lindens.. a lot of good times there and in the older clubs that stuck with the fun. today it's almost not even worth clubbing anymore.. i hadn't been to the edge in a while ..still it's sad to see another long running place shutting down.. _____________________

I did my time at the edge for a long time........in the early 2005 to late 2005. I indeed it looks like Bad Girls is the only last standing large Island kind to be standing........... and for good reason it is................8 months i worked there

I was one that never much liked the Edge, I will not miss it
actually all clubs could close and I would not miss them, as I do not visit them, except maybe once a month when I am bored, then when it gets to that point I just log off bad girls is another one that never really piqued my interest never found either place very friendly when I was a club goer _____________________

ditto- dont do clubs anymore really...BUT...recently a friend of mine INSISTED i went to The 5th element and that was actually really good fun- like i recall clubs to be when i started out in jan 2007..and also...i was taken by another friend to The Hot Sax Club (he swears he didnt find that one by a miss type lol) Really pretty surroundings, beautiful beach to sit on and listen to the music...no pressure no *HOOOOOOOOOOOOOO* crowd...ive been back since...will prolly go again...
Im always surprised when any club I hear of opening survives longer than 2 months these days. _____________________

I think the thing that keeps a club going is the time investment of the owners.
But the biggest thing is the crowds they attract. A club full of the gesture and particle spam isn't going to last long, as people get annoyed and leave. A club with rules and sticks to them to make it an enjoyable place focused on the media/entertainment & community will last a lot longer I see too many where they are hobby clubs set up because they though it would be cool to have one. Or they think there is money in one, so they look for a working formula to build from. _____________________

Unfortunately, the edge, and good riddence to it, was nothing but a lagfest. I had the rather unique pleasure of being the only one in that sim a couple of times. And, even without a soul in there. The piles and piles of scripted garbage, crowded vendors and overmegged textures just crapped the place out. The edge, should forever stand into perpetuity as what NOT to do with a sim. But hey, deep down at the beginning..I loved the place.

I went to the Edge quite a bit when I came to SL, in the days when it was in a huge pyramid. I've been back there occasionally after it became an open air venue.
The main big whole-sim club I go to is Sanctuary Rocks. I don't know how long that's existed but it was already popular when I was new back in September 2006. I've also been a regular at the various clubs that have existed at Hedonistic Isle. Other than those two, my current social dance venues include Nancy Blake's Bar on one the 'West of Ireland' sims, Club Illusion (dance music) and, of course, the Forum Cartel Hangout! _____________________

How are you today FD.....you were here before the edge was around......in your earlier avie. The Sanctuary wonderful Goth style club, its more of a hangout for many of that breed. But indeed a good build. _____________________

How are you today FD.....you were here before the edge was around......in your earlier avie. The Sanctuary wonderful Goth style club, its more of a hangout for many of that breed. But indeed a good build. It is always sad thing when things change and become no more. Most of stuff when I was new I don't know if it exist any more with my first guy and lot of it I was so sick back then I don't remember. When I first had Dagon Grimm I just came from TSO beta and I really really was lost when I was new, I mean really lost and confused. I didn't know even how to go find people to hang out or even what was here for numerous years. Second Life was even more of a Ghost town for me. I didn't know even how to travel back then. It was only when I became FD Spark I did really anything and luckily by then there were few more people who help me figure out things. When I first went to the Edge though it had things I hadn't seen before and it was like totally new to me but I never really talked to anyone, the place and interacting with others just seem bit difficult for me. I never been good at interacting with others in very busy place. So perhaps the unfriendliness I thought I experienced was more to do with me feeling overwhelmed in a crowded, laggy place with too many things going on. I thought those oriental food cooking booths and tool box animations I though were amazing when I was new. Even though I never could figure out how to use them nor did they work when I went and I was just trying to get few upload dollars for my art textures cause all the money I had at time was going towards tier and land. Most of Edge seem like ghost town except where the club was and when there was lot of people there it seemed like a lot of people were talking with friends and it didn't seem very friendly. I vaguely remember something about the Sanctuary but I don't think I ever went because I didn't know. We couldn't just teleport to places or travel like we can now or if we could I had no clue how then. I am okay. I am taking break this week. I decided I am not going to create any thing this week been trying to do new type of things with clothes and its driving me a bit batty. I have been really working hard on learning and creating things, spending long hours at it and I am feeling bit discouraged and burned out at the moment. How are you? |

Clubs have had a very big impact on clothes and skins and animations ect..for a designer to say they could all close and not miss them?
i understand not liking some things about clubs because there are so many clubs that are just carbon copies of nothing but walking into a beggars fest..but there are some fun places out there still that do make of an enjoyable time. _____________________

FD, thats what the new Edge was about mostly. When camping moved into the Edge Island it pretty much killed it off. But today they reached from my last reading 95 agents in that simulator. Not bad really I was temped to go back for all times sake but i couldnt do it.
As Ceka said Clubs to make a impact in clothes and skins and animations and other attachments. The tides are changing as they say. There going to be a big change coming soon, If jenna Fairplay pack it up there is something going on........On the Other Hand Jessie Murdock is a different story this person is a breed by himself. He not about to go unless there is nolonger a Second Life to go back too. Bad Girls will be around for a very Long time..........Then again as people pointed out there are many wonderful locations that offer dance style clubs. Its a whole different game then it was say in 2005. More different styles of clubs and plently of them in all sizes from very smll to ones like Bad Girls.....Many different taste of clubs for a many differnet people.........Thats waht Second Life is about.......And Don`t forget Life Music locations........ well i have seen some older clubs from the 2006 era starting to change into a more corporate appeal setting..pulling out the dancers or at least the nude dancing and putting in more seating and no camping and with more appealing builds..there is certainly a change going on and the ones that know are setting themselves up for it or closing..i'm not saying it was the edges reasons but i've talked with a quite a few of the owners of clubs that have been around and it's in the air and has been for a little while now.get cleaned up
the things we see with LL and it's less caring for the little people is nothing more than growth and the bigger things to come..just as the internet has become a household tool this is where i believe LL wants SL..sitting right there with the radio the tv the internet and playstation.. just a theory but if you look at things in a wider perspective and how some businesses get so big they forget who got them their when the big players enter the picture.. it's not gonna be about land anymore..it's gonna be about communications on a bigger level than it is now.. thats where i feel it is heading pretty strongly anyways from clues being shown here and there..but i could be totally wrong i do hope i am wrong in a sense. _____________________

Well I would say cleaning up their ways.....Its more of a differernt direction.........If thats the case free sex and nude beaches clubs as well would be taking a hit.............Its Commerical aspect of the future that some of the factors invoved and the change in traffic and how the search works these days.

Never heard of The Edge til this post. Or Bad Girls for that matter, but the name of that club alone would make me avoid it.
![]() It is sad, though when one has enjoyed a place, especially one that lasted that long, when it closes. I experienced that with a jazz-themed club I worked at when very new to SL. It was extremely popular, filled with really great people, but only lasted 6 months due to internal drama ![]() Now if the Avilion Ballroom ever closes....I'll really be sad! _____________________

Well I would say cleaning up their ways.....Its more of a differernt direction.........If thats the case free sex and nude beaches clubs as well would be taking a hit.............Its Commerical aspect of the future that some of the factors invoved and the change in traffic and how the search works these days. the way i see it is if you can get enough of the big dogs to play you don't need the little dogs anymore and can make any changes you want to please the big dogs.. the sex clubs and places like that are the places that cheat the search and do what they can to pull traffic to what i see and just a bunch of vendors that sell fetish clothes and scripted things for sex things like that..a lot of new people to sl go to these places then get in the mindset that you need to have this stuff..alot either move into the dance clubs and turn dancers or security or escort to get these things..some end up moving into the rest of the world seeing that there is more to sl than that.. do i think one day there will be these things pulled out of sl? well there has been a lot of talk about the no sex in sl change because if you became a household tool you would be drawing more the population than we have now with a more watered down version of what we now know sl as.. as i said it's just a theory but i have a very high avg for gut instincts and do hope i am way off in this one.. the thing that draws my attention is the even 10% of a fairytale is true..if you strip away all the gossip added and pull the sense out of them and look at other things happening things do start to make a picture.. then add what experiences you have seen with big businesses and corporations in the past and play the avg's of what one would do in this world today if it was yours.. some would stay loyal to what got them there but thats something rare in RL buisness. most would go to please the big dogs with the big backing verses a lot of little dogs running around coming and going and wearing out the support system.. like i said i hope i am way off and it's been more of something i have been playing nancy drew with more than anything hahaha.. _____________________

Never went to The Edge. But I do like clubs that focus on the music and conversation rather than gestures and money-grabbing schemes.
My partner and I have opened a club, Bay City Rockers, that will focus on the music and fun, with themed events and contests a few times a week. No vendors or money-grabbing devices. Just tip jars, which of course are voluntary, and a raffle ball which gives out prizes or money for free. No lag either ![]() _____________________
