OLDEST CLUB IN SECOND LIFE CLOSING HER DOORS!
After having been open for over 3 ½ years, immediately following the Midnight event (technically June 1st) on May 31st, 2008 The Edge will be the closing her doors. Jenna Fairplay opened The Edge on September 5, 2004 on a small parcel then known as DaBoom and has since become the longest running club on the Second Life grid.
Within weeks of its opening it was listed in Second Life's most popular places, reaching number one numerous times. Starting off small the sim was maxed out at 40 people, often times it was the goal of all involved to hit and attempt to exceed that number so the sim would "crash". DaBoom Radio was created and had DJ's who would stream music to all the club goers. In January of 2006, The Edge moved to its own sim called, obviously, Edge. The sim capacity was now at 100! On opening night seeing over 60 people in the sim was a great sight! The Edge reached capacity in the summer of 2006 with 104 people rocking the sim until it overheated and crashed twice in 5 minutes.
Since its opening, The Edge and Jenna Fairplay have been featured in such major publications as Playboy (November 2006), Wired Magazine (October 2006), and many other books regarding Second Life and Entrepreneurship.
As of this release, The Edge employees over 200 managers, hosts, DJ's, and dancers to serve its guests needs. Over the years literally a thousand or more people have been employed by this Second Life Icon.
Up until the final day The Edge will be filled with its usual events, fun, and laughs. Come on the final day for some of the Staff’s favorite events! Please find the schedule of the final day’s events below!
The Edge Management would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of its patrons and employees for the many laughs, joys, and dreams that each of you have shared with us over the years.

The Edge sim will be set open for lease so please IM Jenna Fairplay for info regarding the sim. The Edge name and groups will be open for bidding. If you are interested in taking over The Edge name and groups with 5000+ members please IM Jenna Fairplay with offers.

Wow...glad I went to many dances there.
Very sorry to hear that the Edge is closing it's doors!
It's definitely been one of the most successful dance venues in Second Life.
Thanks to all those who made it a happening place over the years!

From: Jenna Fairplay Jenna Fairplay opened The Edge on September 5, 2004 on a small parcel then known as DaBoom and has since become the longest running club on the Second Life grid. Jenna, in fairness, the Edge is not the oldest club in Second Life, nor the longest running club on the Second Life grid. That distinction at the very least belongs to the Shelter, which opened on August 20, 2004, and is still in operation today. There may be other venues still in operation prior to that time as well. The Edge is certainly one of the longest-running clubs, and has sustained the highest popularity over the years. You definately deserve kudos for that, and I'm certain that alone will contribute to your value when you proceed with selling the Edge name. From: someone The Edge sim will be set open for lease so please IM Jenna Fairplay for info regarding the sim. The Edge name and groups will be open for bidding. If you are interested in taking over The Edge name and groups with 5000+ members please IM Jenna Fairplay with offers.

I'm led to believe Rockers Requiem was up and running before that date too (although I have yet to confirm this) but it has to be said that a huge pat on the back has to go to all the people who kept the Edge going for that length of time.
Like it's mentioned in another thread to someone who is new to SL and wants to start a club, this is a difficult business to keep running with new Clubs popping up every day, so well done to everyone who kept that place going - staff and patrons alike. It's a huge achievement - it's a sad day to see any long standing establishment close it's doors.
All the best in any new ventures the staff and customers take on.

I haven't visited the Edge since I was a newb, before it had it's own sim, but it is always sad when a long-established venue closes. Good luck with your next venture, whatever it may be.

Farewell The Edge!

Dear Jenna, My first day in game (over four years ago) I remember landing at a newbie area and having someone there suggest I check out your club because it was listed at #1-first place I visited. I landed there and was in awe fresh off the newbie area. The club was packed and I found a shopping area there within the club and being in newbie "ruth" looking mode I shopped there-made abeeline for the hair. At that time the hair was packed in HUGE boxes without demos and I bought one and clicked wear rather that unpack, not knowing any better. I was horrified having this huge box stuck on my head and having NO clue as a newb how to remove it! It was huge and I flew back and forth looking like a ping pong ball in a corner of the club bouncing off all displays in a corner as I tried to break free as all these gorgeous people in a club watched the latest newb make a fool out of herself! No one made fun of me (at least in room, lol) and I frequented your club often with my husband then. We would go there to dance years ago and I am sorry to hear you are closing your doors. I have many fond memories of the Edge in my early days in SL and I wish Scott and I could have come by for one last dance before you closed Best wishes for your future and ty for a first day newb/1st day in SL memory I will never forget, Arianna Baron From: Jenna Fairplay OLDEST CLUB IN SECOND LIFE CLOSING HER DOORS!

Wow! The Edge was the one of the first places I ever visited in SL. And like so many, it is where I got my start in SL. So many good times and memories ...
Sorry to see it go, but it will always have a special place in my heart.

Wow, the oldest freebie seller in SL is closing the club that sparked the exodus from DaBoom.
How goes that freebie selling?

From: someone OLDEST CLUB IN SECOND LIFE CLOSING HER DOORS Dont let BigJohn Jade hear that....I'm pretty sure he'd not agree. Especially given his own club was a year old when you first joined SL. - Newfie

I thought Elite Club was first on those days, but still, hey, I enjoyed both of them on those days. I remember both when they started and it was a major entertaining venue for when SL was small. I had tons of fun.
I went to both when I had time to have fun and dance. Even thou they always had the "escort, sexual" whatever idea behind, was still fun to enjoy a good dance on those days when I wasn't so busy and didn't have much to do.
Everyone always was nice.
Now that I remember there was another club even older thou... Felicia's club at the beach. (R.I.P) I will always miss her. I still treasure those photos with sparkles on my hand and dancing with my friend.
I wish you the best Jenna.
