the only thing that would bother me with creating mega prims would be that griefers could too..instead of crashing a sim at a time couldn't they crash whole estates much easier in less time?

What's the difference (for a griefer) to create a megaprim instead of rezzing it, since the megaprims are already available (of any size)? And usually, when u grief with megaprims, u don't create em, it's something that you already have into your inventory, and also the attacks (the previous mentioned duplicating cubes) uses the rezzing, not the creation.
So i'm not sure if you are scared about the "usage" of megaprims.. nor just their creation.

well because anyone could make them?? and maybe there would be a bigger population in making them..not everyone knows about mega prims...some learn to build and some learn to grief..
i was just saying it would be easier is all..
a lot of the premeditation would be gone..
none of the omg where can i get mega prims??oh i can just make them myself??
oh i can make 1024x1024x1024??

someone new getting into building wondering just how big of a prim they could make..
or someone new just playing with the tools that doesn't realize sims are player owned and thinking they can just make anything anywhere..

i don't have a problem with using them..i use them all the time and created a bunch back when we had the last window..
but new people try things and don't realize a lot of things yet in sl..

some think griefing is really just playing until you tell them it's wrong..

i had a 6 sim region and people were leaving their practice builds there all the time..i know not everyone turns off build..not until they feel they have to..

There's already plenty of megas they can use. They seem to use lolcubes and such instead.

lol, that would be silly indeed ....but how about 0.01 to 32m ...that wouldnt change much for griefers, save 30% prims, and make creativity and building so much easier :)

And if they are allowed why you can't size a prim up to 100 meters? Are you telling me that Linden Lab is deliberately limiting the client and servers because they are sadists? :D
You know that in a recent server deployment they left open (by mistake or not) the server size enforcing, to the possibility to create megaprims returned back for a while, but then they hurried (2 days) to deploy a new server to fix the "problem"? That's pretty different than "allowing" megaprims, unless (as i said) they are sadists and they wanna look at us managing with our inventory to rez any sort of prim to find the "good" one, while the "create" button (and resize) would just works.
Hmmmm...

Two different things here...what the build tools are capable of, and what's legal for use. On two occasions, a loophole existed in the software that allowed the creation of megaprims. People took advantage of that, and created a bunch of them. Copyable, too, so that the things still exist even though the loophole has been closed.

While you can't (currently) rez a prim larger than 10m with the build tools, you CAN legally use the existing megas. If that were not "allowed", LL would just have deleted them from the database.

In fact that is the reason, the question of "how large a prim should be..." is still discussing by ages already, first or late they'll keep their decision, and that they if the decision will be: "let's increase them to 50 meters"; anything larger on the grid will be removed.. and you can't moan at all because they never told you to use em. And I don't expect that any Linden will tell something different to the public (ie: in a blog post) otherwise he/she would open a dangerous port, admitting or encouraging the usage of megaprims would block em to remove the contents in the future *until they decide what a suitable size will be*; while actually they can remove any prim larger than 10 meters "legally", they won't to so indeed, it would be devastating (the reply to your first question...), but if they decides for a slightly larger size, expect alot of people "crying". So i would never encourage to make "serious" building using megaprims without being prepped with a backup plan (turn back to use the regular prims whenever the size will be, and with only 10 meters in mind).
Also don't forget the economic aspect: LL is making money with prims (the land size is playing a marginal role here...), alot of ppl are buying SIM because of 15k prims, increasing the prim size would mean save prims = less money for LL; after watching of what happened recently, i won't be surprised to see another badass move.

People using megaprims don't put fewer prims on their parcels, they used the saved prims elsewhere.

Dont give em any ideas.... using megaprims are the only things which make detailed building worthwhile here.....
