I remember when I was a kid, (RL stuff here) and a friend had a birthday party that took place outside. well it was a treasure hunt with clues... we got the first clue in an envelope and it was like a riddle, which when figured out, would lead to the location to the next clue, and a small prize, and so on and so forth. the final clue location was the grand prize (1st 2nd and 3rd) and very cool gifts (I remember 1st being a barbie camper thing) I have thought that a hunt like that would be cool, but not sure how easy it would be to pull off with multiple stores (or even in one store...) but would be cool none the less _____________________

I think they're okay... though they're rapidly approaching overkill. Agrees. I've done a few and it seems like all of a sudden there are several hunts going on at the same time. Enough already. Also, for the time and effort it takes to locate the items, most of it I don't keep anyway cause it's just not that great. Now I just take a peek in a particular store if one of the fashion blogs reports a found item that is high quality. _____________________

Ashe - If you have not been to Lemania's, look it up. A sim wide hunt, her store and others, almost every month and it lasts all month so you are not rushed/ What Lil said. Lemania's are fairly painless, and there are usually some goodies that I am really happy I found. ![]() |

K hon, maybe tomorrow or early next week? (kids will be here over the weekend) That's fine...it's an idea I've been mulling over for a couple of months, so another few days truly will not matter. _____________________

Rha - that is basically what the TQ hunt is. You get a notecard with the LM to the first spot and a riddle type clue to solve. When you find it, you get a gift from that store and the next notecard, which has a LM to a new place and a new clue. They usually have 20-30 clues total and most of it is the same store owners each month. Sometimes a new store will pop in for a few months, sometimes one will drop, but there is a core group that does it. Most of the prizes are pretty decent too. And they do hints in group chat if people need help so that nobody gets too frustrated. Ah I was thinking something without the lm's and the clues would lead to the store, which would have the items displayed at the door... as I said might be too hard to do _____________________

I am not good with games and clues...so i like simple hunts where the item is fairly easy to find and in something that tells me it is the right item...like a heart etc. I have not done many of the grid wide hunts mainly because i go to a few stops, cant find the stuff, get frustrated and leave.
As for participating, the jury is still out. I have not yet participated in one that was simple enough and that i got in before the deadline. but when i have set them up on my sims etc, they are hugely successful and people seem genuninely happy to go find the items and see what is in the area. And many will come back and visit again. _____________________

(I think it was key MacMoragh who reported in another thread that she'd spent TWO HOURS in a store looking for an item. TWO HOURS!! I'd have thrown in the towel 118 minutes earlier. @key: if it wasn't you...sorry )You're right and you're wrong, Mo: ... So, no joke, I spent five hours in that store, actively looking. Five effing hours, to be precise. So I sent a nice note to the organizer and asked her to release the list of stores afterward. Yes, it was me... silly silly me. It was that Gorean Grid Wide Hunt with the microscopic flowers. And I was really looking, and it was a big store, and it wasn't five hours in a row. It was like an hour, then two hours the next day... Finally, with the help of Ann and Lil and some people I don't even know I was able to move on. But I *still* haven't gone through the stuff I found on that hunt. And I'm the kind of person who feels a sense of dismay at a disordered inventory. I can't go on another hunt until I clear up my inventory. ETA: I recently went into one of the last stores I visited on that hunt, and even though it's a nice store full of pretty clothes, I had such a sense of revulsion left over from that GD hunt, I left without buying anything. |

I boycott all grid wide hunts.
If someone hosts one filled with guy stuff I'll be all for it. But box after box of no transfer jewelry and women's apparel? Nope...not worth my time. _____________________

I am not interested in grid-wide hunts. The only place I participate from time to time is one particular dress designer who owns several sims and the hunts are just on her sims. She also offers weekly special outfits to her group members.
I LOVE these clothes - they are based on Hollywood stars - many vintage - and encompass quite a range of outfit styles. However, even here, I have so many outfits I haven't even tried on yet that I dropped the group until I want to update my wardrobe again. |

I used to let my Jigsaw1 gallery house be used to stash clues in hunts. If anyone wants to hide a clue there, be my guest.

Ive done a few recently..and Im glad that the organisers of the big ones state that the participating stores can not give away BBIAB items or commonly found freebies but their OWN items, why? Because its SO cool to get something to TRY(clothing& shoes) for free, perhaps Ive been idling over trying a designers gear because yet again I might find the flexi part doesnt sit right on my shape (bang goes another 500L on a frock) or maybe their style just doesnt suit me..a good hunt gives you the opportunity to try the makers creations. If i like, I will inevitably BUY something else of theirs at a later date. Sure, quite a few designers give a freebie nowadays...but still some dont...
I keep landmarks from the places I visit during hunts, so I can return when the frenzy has died down. Not overly keen on the HUGE grid wide ones, but I will do them if I have time and I will report the GREAT finds to my shopping group. The one hunt we participated in as a store was fun...and sales rocketed during and afterwards. _____________________

Yes, I do hunts...I can't seem to help myself Unpacking/trying on is the more time consuming chore of the event. I only keep about 98% of the stuff. But I do love coming across a specialty store that I have never seen before ![]() Only 98% kept? _____________________

About the no-transfer items... I think that if store owners let you transfer the prizes, it would make more business for them.
I delete stuff I don't like and can't or won't use. They get zero business from me if I don't like their stuff. BUT, if I could transfer those items, I could give them to someone who WOULD love their stuff; someone who'd go buy more. For instance, in that Gor Wide hunt, I got some silks. I'm not going to bother unpacking them. I'm not even curious what they look like, because I'll never wear them. And I can see that they're no transfer. So, it's a dead end. However, I know people who wear silks, and if I could, I'd toss those items their way. (The point isn't about silks, btw. It's just about potential buyers.) |

Transfer items on a hunt does not work. You are getting the item for free or L$1. If they were transfer, someone would just nab lots and then sell them.

I ignore most of these, especially if it seems mainly aimed at getting people to go to a bunch of different stores.
One of my close friends had a great time with one recently. Had to go to something like 20 stores, get an item at each, and buy something from at least one, then at the end, when all the associated items had been found, could cash it in for one free item from one of the stores. I looked over the list of stores, and the items one could get for free, and just shrugged. A few looked sort of cool, for what they were. But the stores themselves and the merchandise to choose from as free prizes just didn't personally appeal to me. I guess I am just fairly picky as a shopper. I buy what I like, and rarely buy just on impulse. As for other sorts of hunts, I have tried searching for Linden Bears. That was sort of fun, like an Easter Egg Hunt. Nothing to buy - just search an area and pick things up. I didn't bother with the Linden Hearts hunt though. The search area was too vague, and it looked to me like it would take far more of my time than it was worth for the potential prizes. _____________________

What about hint giving. I can see not shouting it in local chat (unless everyone there is in agreement the location is hellish and wishes to be reprieved) but what about a shop owner that forbids anyone from even IMing hints or locations to each other? "It's easy enough to find" isn't true when everyone's been there half an hour or more...
I think some get too precious about the whole thing and also forget how long it all takes. And if the person has alts they want to send back, that is 103 locations (Twisted hunt, the Valentines ones added up to nearly 600 locations) times at least 5 minutes sometimes up to an hour, per location. *Per av.* The other choice is give up, usually halfway through, so the later shops suffer. (Anyone know a good hunt blog or twitter page feel free to IM me. )Have a heart, hiders. Lol |

Transfer items on a hunt does not work. You are getting the item for free or L$1. If they were transfer, someone would just nab lots and then sell them. I know it is possible to set it up so that it will only give you one copy (one of the Linden bears is set up that way on the Linden's land; touch to get, can't get anymore, it will say something about 1 per person if you touch again). I am not sure how that works. A script, I assume. Then you would have one transfer item to keep or give away. of course, then it would have to be no copy. _____________________

Yes already on the Twisted hunt one location was like that - tried to click twice, "huh uh you already took one." I smiled.
