Sound off on whether you loathe or love prize hunts. Or are you somewhere in between. Can you see 'both sides' of it (shop owner and prize hunter)?

As shop owner or prize hunter what would you change about how the prize hunts are currently run.

Do you think it is OK for people to help each other with 'cheat sheets'.

It's all just opinions. Everyone's is valid, and for me anyway, everyone's is welcome...

Me? I am slow to rez, my eyes are not always the best, either. So I appreciate any hints and help...I am there to see new shops, not prove my 'skills' locating a needle in a haystack. On my list of accomplishments finding a prim in a parcel is about the millionth down the list.

What do you think. Have you done hunts? Were they worth your time? Would you do one again, or 'only if ____ " ?

I've done hunts with friends and have had a good time. We didn't compare notes, it was more like an easter egg hunt. The leader would brag about how much more they found. Doing a hunt alone would be extremely dull to me. I never keep anything I find.

From a storekeepers perspective (former store owner), the hunts bother me a little, but not all that much. The quality of items in hunts is usually so substandard that I doubt anyone using them would even consider buying my furniture anyway.

not sure why the "Friday thread" is in the title, as this is so not a Friday thread material hehe (besides true Friday threads do not have Friday thread in the title :p

anywho, to answer the questions I quoted...

yes I have done hunts
they were not worth the time I put into hunting
nope, I would not do one again

I hosted a grid hunt, awhile back (at Halloween) and even though it worked out, it did have hitches, and I hate to think that folks got stuck in locations.

I did get a lot of positive feedback from folks who want to be involved if I host another hunt (which I doubt I will)

however I keep tossing around other ideas that I am hoping people might be interested in.

only time will tell (and I did keep their names with their permission, so if I come up with something I can contact them)

I like them, it usually spurs me to visit new places, and the prizes are often quite nice. If I like the prize I would definitely visit the creator's shop again.

Going through the mass quantities of items in inventory afterward (as from a grid wide hunt)... can be rather a daunting chore, but then, what's the rush? I'm still sorting thru the POE stuff. :D

Yes, I do hunts...I can't seem to help myself :D

Unpacking/trying on is the more time consuming chore of the event.

I only keep about 98% of the stuff.

But I do love coming across a specialty store that I have never seen before ;)

I enjoy hunts...but up to a point. I like hunts which draw you into the shop (i.e., the hunt item isn't propped up on the front doorstep), but I don't want the prize to be so well hidden that I throw my hands up in the air and leave.

(I think it was key MacMoragh who reported in another thread that she'd spent TWO HOURS in a store looking for an item. TWO HOURS!! I'd have thrown in the towel 118 minutes earlier. @key: if it wasn't you...sorry :o)

Generally, I look for the hunt item, and THEN poke around the store...and if you've frustrated me in my attempt to find the item, I leave, empty-handed, without the hunt item OR anything else from your store.

And I'm fine with me helping friends on a hunt. I don't like it when I'm in the store, and in open chat, people are telling others where the item is located. grrrr *shakes fist*

This - I am addicted to hunts, but hate the unpacking/sorting/etc.

Though lately I have not enjoyed the huge grid wide ones - the last few I have done, there were too many shop owners that seem to not really care about the quality of what they gave you. And there were way too many that were like finding a needle in a haystack. I do not mind having to look around the store to find something, but I do not want to search an entire sim for an itty bitty item that I have to practically be standing on to even see.

I like helping with the hunts, not so much having the items for myself, besides most of them are of women’s clothing etc.
There is a grid wide one going on now I missed out participating in.

I like hunts. I've both been on them and have held small hunts in my store. It is rare, on a hunt, that I like a prize enough to keep it, but that makes it all the more special when I get something I really like. I prefer to go hunting alone, and I like to take the time to check out new areas and new stores. I look upon hunts as a form of exploring.

ROFL

:)

speaking of hunts.. here is another question to add...

to those who do hunts, do you prefer multiple store hunts, or a single store with it's own hunt?

I have a friend who loves hunts, but was always frustrated that they were so female oriented. He finally created a female alt to do his hunting and finds he uses her more every day.

"Twisted" hunt isn't bad...

IMO it would be nice if a list of places could be had, for those who would rather not do it place by place. A lot of people would still hit each shop. Maybe more.

I also wish the hunts were grouped by type of prize. For instance like you said, guys have to wade through a lot of 'girl stuff' which doesn't seem right.

Maybe group a hunt into four subhunts - girl stuff, guy stuff, jewelry (girl or guy), and other (furniture, etc.)

I met one lady who lit into me that "this is a HUNT" and it all should be hard, moved daily to defeat hint blogs, etc. In my opinion frustrated prize-hunters aren't shopping. They're cursing the shop owner under their breath. Lol. (But it's one reason I thought this *might* be Friday thread material, Rhaorth. smiles)

I do not mind multiple stores, but I a bit tired and overwhelmed with the 200-500 stop grid wide ones. I have one designer that has a sim wide hunt every month and I love those - but mostly cuz I absolutely love her clothes.

Usually, the hunts I like the most are like the ones that the Treasure Quest group does -- you get a clue at each stop that you must decipher. I actually like the challenge of figuring out the clue.

Agree, wish more would do the clue type hunts.

I am going to start shying away from the grid-wide ones from now on, too much to sort through. The single store ones are too easy...wouldn't mind a whole sim type of deal or 10 or so stores involved ;)

ahhh yeah that might be friday material :P

and yea I am on the same wavelength as those who feel that the switching hiding spots and such makes it way too hard

hunters want to have fun, and from my own experience, if something is way too hard to find, I will not return to that location.

I think they're okay... though they're rapidly approaching overkill.

I've done the gridwide hunts, and in a couple of them coming up.

A friend of mine not only does the cheatsheets, he's created a hud to help you. Is it cheating? Some may think so...I don't. The Vain Kiss hunt and the Greatest Love hunt were running at the same time, both with over 200 vendors....so 450+ items to find, and some of the store owners were moving the boxes around. There aren't enough hours in the day to get through all of them without some kind of help.

The Peace on Earth hunt at Christmas was horrendous....over 400 vendors, and more were being added all the time. If you say you're doing 200 vendors...stick to it. If they come late, too bad.

The sim hunts are a pain in the butt because some sim owners are sadistic and hide them in impossible places. That said, at Halloween I did one hunt that was very cool...took place in a castle. The prizes, in most cases, weren't worth the time spent, however.

I remember when I was a kid, (RL stuff here) and a friend had a birthday party that took place outside.

well it was a treasure hunt with clues...

we got the first clue in an envelope and it was like a riddle, which when figured out, would lead to the location to the next clue, and a small prize, and so on and so forth.

the final clue location was the grand prize (1st 2nd and 3rd) and very cool gifts (I remember 1st being a barbie camper thing)

I have thought that a hunt like that would be cool, but not sure how easy it would be to pull off with multiple stores (or even in one store...) but would be cool none the less

Ashe - If you have not been to Lemania's, look it up. A sim wide hunt, her store and others, almost every month and it lasts all month so you are not rushed/

Just saw this. Lol!

I think hunts can be a good way for a 'newbie' or new av to get a whole new wardrobe free. That's one possible benefit, and they are too new to get burnt out. Although hunting while learning to fly/walk may not be fun.

Re: smaller 'mall' hunts, I think Cosmo mall is the name of a place that had one. No idea on the prizes' quality though.
