Iteration, instance - I don't want to bog down in semantics. You're deleting the busted item, rezzing the box it came in that is in your inventory, taking up a new copy of the item, and attaching that. Good as new. Because in fact, it is new.

Of course, this assumes SL hasn't borked your inventory. Sometimes SL is the worst griefer of all.

unless of course it wasn't copiable to begin with.... most items can be fixed with a reset or recompile of the scripts in the object, if not, yeah you're screwed.

My favorite "weaponage" is freeze, torment, eject and ban. :)

They never fail me and they are free!

All I can say is that griefers, and other gun users, are always welcome on my land. :D

Sorry - didn't mean to nitpick. They mean different things, and I wasn't sure what you were saying. :(

The teledash is my favorite way to "sink to their level" with someone who's being annoying, typically by shoving me on purpose.

They're not usually designed as a weapon, but your own avatar makes for a nice bullet that will bump others a fair distance in a no-push area.

And you "fire" as fast as you can press a keyboard key, if you bind it to a gesture.

The best "ownage" in all of SL is...

The build tool.

Hit the build button then create something wonderful and useful. Sell it to someone. Congratulations, you now own some of their money.

As always, creation > destruction. If you're looking for a competitive adge, or even competitive mastery over other people, create and strive to create better than anyone else. It will earn people's respect and admiration, as well as their money.

If you want thrills at the end of a weapon, try Battlefield, Battlefield 2142, CS: Source or any other FPS with a semi-fair and level playing field. SL is a world for creators, entrepreneurs, artists and socialites - and of course the people who want to ruin it all - the griefers.

Which do you want to be?

Search in world for Mystical Cookie. The free one is in her store, where you can also buy the full version.

You're right, the mockery is wrong. But the OP should be careful...this isn't, generally speaking, a place that favors weapons, combat, or "ownage", although there are areas for that. Combat fanatics should go play Halo or Call of Duty instead, and let the rest of us get on with our boring building, shopping, and socializing.

The "Ownage" thing is fascinating. It asks lots of questions about the purpose of SL as a past-time, as well as the state of mind of the asker, and the prevailing zeitgeist of the forum watchers here. It seems to me that:

1) Yeah, the forum has a wonk towards wholegrain hippy thinking.

2) There is an entire uncommented-on aspect to SL which almost never generates any forum traffic, and that is combat - quite separate from greifing. Maybe Combat Wonks are inarticulate; maybe the anti-Combat types are hysterical.

3) Ownage is a very young thing; it says "no matter the ostensible purpose of your online activity, I'm in it to humiliate you". That means, it ain't necessarily a weapon - could be a malicious script, a L$ balance draining bot... it's a very wide ranging request. Perhaps uor man here needs to more clearly define what he means by "ownage". Just the character? the "driver" of the character? Everyone he can see? Or what?

4) Further to 3), one point which the budding "ownage" addict has to consider carefully is; this is an incredibly rich field for downright fakes. Many people coming into the SL universe (the world and the e-commerce sites, and in that I include Ebay) believe that the environment is capable of doing far more than it really can - so they go round foolishly buying completely fake or trash objects which promise to operate as an all around clothes remover, creditcard detail stealer, and thermonuclear weapon. The question is, then: is it better to direct wannabee griefers to GENUINE weaponry and help them avoid the ludicrously overblown fakes, or is the buying of stuff like that just part of the game?

Chas, the OP got some good replies, mine and yours among them. I think the mockery arose because of the OP's use of the word "ownage". It implies, shall we say, a wargames approach to SL. That's probably not the right attitude to take in this world, unless you're in a combat sim.

You're right, the mockery is wrong. But the OP should be careful...this isn't, generally speaking, a place that favors weapons, combat, or "ownage", although there are areas for that. Who precisely are you to dictate what other residents should or should not do?

I'm trying to get a handle on what one of my publishers called "monetarising the online profile" at the moment. Which is a way of saying: no.

But I am working on it!

It was a suggestion, not a diktat, Mr. Godwin. I don't tell others what they should do or where they should get off.

But I'll make an exception in your case. :p

You used the very word "should". It was an instruction. An incredibly arrogant one.

"You Should" is a statement of opinion. It may be presumptuous or even arrogant. It is still just an opinion.

"You Must" or "You Shall" or any other ultimatum is the point where it is time to take out the long knoves and sharpen them up.

Let's cool it, Lindal and Conan.
