Given all the problems we've had with people who believe themselves above the ToS/CS lately, it's very hard to muster any sympathy (snip)...

This.

If it drives me frakkin nuts that people *choose to* totally ignore rules and/or think they are above following clear rules, on the small scale I deal with it, I can only imagine what LL goes through daily. After a while you really just have heard all the excuses.

Why do some people feel that the rules are for everyone else?

Do you remember that incident earlier this year where someone made a passionate, heart-throbbing plea on behalf of some Brazilian girl who had been allegedly kidnapped and brought to the US (or something to that effect - my memory is a little sketchy) - only for us to discover it was all an elaborate social-engineering ruse to collect e-mail addresses (presumably to sell to spammers)?

Was that discovered or just debated? I thought that wasn't all that long ago, too. I admit I sometimes stop reading threads if they get too bogged down in back & forth.

I think someone is trying to be funny...or just to be an ass.

Just my humble opinion.

Handy

Glad somebody got it. lol

My friend meant the world to me. He has the sharpest, wickedest sense of black humor of anyone I have ever met. He has challenged me in ways I never expected, and I will miss him desperately if he cannot come back to SL. It's like a family member has died, I feel so awful.

Your post is unrespectfull to persons that actually lost a family member. You can still mail him, msn him, phone him, twitter him, go live with him on another grid, and so on...

For me, the value here is the different kind of smarts on display. Some guys (gender-neutral) who don't do real english put together some posts and responses which have the eloquent wrapped up in knots, in no time flat. It couldn't be more blatant, even if the first post had said "hi, I'm doing Social Networking And Scam #101 at the U of Djakarta and for my 2nd semester project..."

To the OP: Friends Do The Stupidest Things. Back when I was your age, the rite of passage was to be hauled out of bed at 2am to join 6 other guys and a truck in moving out an old flame from her abusive boyfriend, in a single hour, while the cops had him in a cell. These days it looks like the same thing is achieved by posting in a forum... the difference being that my rewards were real (and wet and warm and...) whereas I guess yours are mostly virtual.

That must be progress. I hope U R Plzd.

poker in the rear.

Are you allowed to speak like that in these forums these days? I don't think so, go wash your mouth out!
Damn, I forgot that gambling was not allowed.

I'm pretty sure it was discovered, though I can't be absolutely certain, and can't be bothered to go back and try to re-read that mess.

Hmm...Under age? Content theft? Stolen Lindens?

I keep a couple of Lindens in my basement. I think their names are Max and Ruby.

No.

They could only do the first few things on your list if they'd exchanged contact information previously. But if they had, the base note probably wouldn't have been posted. They may be able to find each other by searching elsewhere now, but that's hit or miss. The simplest approach would be for the banned person to go to a friend's house, create a new account, and recreate the contact. It's obvious, against the rules, and probably something you don't want to be suggesting (and if it weren't so obvious, I wouldn't have mentioned it either).

But regardless of whether or not they can reconnect somehow, it's an exaggeration to say that it's disrespectful to those who have lost family members. Sure, there are plenty of times when analogies are so poor as to be disrespectful; that's one of the factors behind Godwin's law. But in this case, I think you'd be hard pressed to come up with a better analogy based on what the original poster believed and felt at the time of the post. Just accept that at that point in time, the original poster believed that all contact was lost permanently (whether or not that belief is true), and consider how that might have felt to him.

Then think about which is worse, the original post or your black humor response.
