WTF? Adult Content threads all locked?

WTF? JP Linden just locked all the Linden "Further Conversation" threads on the topic of the changes in handling Adult Content???

So much for "discussing" the matter with the residents. Humph! They cherry-picked a few things to reply to, ignored most resident commentary, concerns, and suggestions, and have now stuck their heads in the sand again.

How can we "Discuss" when they won't allow the conversation?

We should know by now how LL operate :) do we really believe they are that interested in what we have to say?

What an epic waste of time. The Lindens following the threads just responded to a few sycophantic comments at the beginning and then ignored the rest. I don't think a single serious question was answered.

It's fine though, I think most of us realised up front that the whole thing was a dog and pony show. They almost got me with the OpenSpace price increase stuff but by now I'm way too jaded to fall for it.

I do. I see it like this. They decide what they are going to do, discuss it internally, modify and finalise the plans, and then throw it open to the public just to see if anything worthwhile crops up that hadn't occured to them. If nothing crops up, they continue as planned but, if something does crop up, they'll modify their plans accordingly. In either case, they say "we listened to you" and try to make out that they've made decisions based on what we had to say.

I guess they realise they jumped the gun with their original policy definitions and won't have anything concrete to say on the issue until they rework that, although you'd think they could have worded the thread lock that way.

Just seems odd to open a discussion and then close it like that.

Isn't bestiality and yiffing on the list to be "relocated"?

I think he meant lunchtimeish LL office hours where people can yell at Lindens about this stuff while in-world. It's about bringing your lunch to work in a brown paper bag, not about the discrete brown paper wrappings you get all those magazines in, Ciaran. :P

Sadly, I expect that they will, as usual, schedule these things to be undoable for everybody in the US that works during the day. Like most adults do..

They never learn. All joking and bashing aside, they never learn. How can a company of allegedly brilliant people in many ways be so hopelessly inept at basic communication?

Usually that means a kind of informal lunch meeting. I don't know what it means in a Second Life context.

This doesn't bother me much. They kept the threads alive for a pretty good while and I would think any comments now would just be a rehash of previous comments.

It's not so much the comments, but their answers. A lot of good questions were asked and ignored.

They shouldn't use colloquialisms around us, for God's sakes. Don't they know we can argue over what "The sky is blue "means?

I'll agree with this, the comments being posted in the last couple of days were pretty pointless. If anyone came up with anything clever no-one would notice because it would be buried in a mountain of crap.

Every single person who may be affected like this, start documenting your business now.

When Linden Lab actually starts to screw you, have the information ready to (a) give to the media (b) report to the Better Business Bureau (c) report to your Attorney General (of U.S. states) and/or (d) go to a lawyer with a well-prepared, easy to understand case if you lost enough money.

Don't lay down and die for once. Prepare and organize.

And focus on the issues on which you can take Linden Lab to task. It's not about some sort of right to do adult things. It's about the fact that Linden Lab (a) took your money, or caused you to spend money (b) based on a contract, advertisement, promise, course of conduct (c) have unilaterally, without your consent, violated the contract, didn't live up to advertisement or promise, changed the course of conduct on which you relied (d) and that change caused a certain amount of monetary damage to you.

Indeed. They really need a firewall-friendly interface. Like Jabber/XMPP.

The threads covered all the salient points (Godwined, death of SL predicted, class action suits declared), so they outlived their utility early.

And this is why they abruptly stopped the 'conversation'. Instead of sweeping the smut under the rug they have made it the most talked about subject in the metaverse. And this move will compound the issue. Perhaps they need to proclaim the current mainland Smutworld and build a PG world for the teetotalers

A "brown bag" is usually a meeting or other company activity, scheduled around lunchtime and lasting long enough where most people would miss their lunch windows, so they let everyone know in advance to "pack their lunch", and allow people to eat during a short break in the event, or while the event goes on.

Sometimes, it is planned as a "social lunch" activity, but that's not as common.

I thought Brown bag was referencing what all the hypocrites in SL would wear when they went to the "Sex Gulag" so they wouldn't be recognized.....

The great ships hung motionless in the sky, over every nation on Earth. Many people went straight into shock as their minds tried to encompass what they were looking at. The ships hung in the sky in much the same way that bricks don’t.

“People of Earth, your attention, please” a voice said, and it was wonderful. Wonderful perfect quadraphonic sound with distortion levels so low as to make a brave man weep.

“This is Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz of the Galactic Hyperspace Planning Council,” the voice continued. “As you will no doubt be aware, the plans for development of the outlying regions of the Galaxy require the building of a hyper spatial express route through your star system, and regrettably your planet is one of those scheduled for demolition. The process will take slightly less than two of your Earth minutes. Thank you.” The PA died away.

“Energize the demolition beams.”

Light poured out of the hatchways.
There was a terrible ghastly silence.
There was a terrible ghastly noise.
There was a terrible ghastly silence.
The Vogon Constructor Fleet coasted away into the inky starry void.

"Sex Hypocrites"?

Because I allow nudists on my property? Or what? Don't be shy, Brenda.
