How to master anything: Click every key, change every value, explore every option, break everything you can possibly break. Go nuts. You will learn faster then taking a class.

That does not always work for everyone. At least, it didn't for me - if that had been my only means of learning to build, I'd still be asking for help to turn my couch away from the wall.

What worked for me was taking classes. "Rez this shape. Now change this value. Now change this so that that will happen..." After several classes of being walked through various changes, I built up a mental dictionary of how the build menu worked - but for me it happened a lot faster for the classes I took than if I hadn't taken them.

Everyone learns a little differently.

I've done the shopping bit.
I've done the building bit.
I've done the RP bit.
I've done the club bit.
I've done the modeling bit.

I'm bored.
What more is there to do in SL? What's something maybe slightly goal oriented or intellectually stimulating to do?

Have you tried Giant Snail Racing yet? Its totally nuts, hilariously funny, definitely not boring. (go in world, see my picks for location for this). Unfortunately I don't still have time to do this wonderful activity as I have a new theme every single week in my SL. (I don't do bored.).
Consult the World Map and TP to random places and take a look around. Its surprising what you sometimes come across.
Rezz a vehicle on one of the Linden roads and see how far you can drive it before you crash crossing a SIM border and leave a ghost behind.
Join some totally new groups - sociable ones such as Fabulously Free in SL, or the Arbor Project. The people in the latter group have taught me loads about all things land-related, plus much more.
Puddletown has a racing track.
Learn to sail. Join the Nantucket Yacht Club. Sailing in SL is quite a challenge.
On Primary there is a fabulous novelty store that has some very out of the ordinary fun items.
But if you want intellectual stimulation rather than just simple stress-relieving fun, then read through the Linden Daily Blogs for the last few months - there has to be something there. There's LanguageLab, museums, art galleries, memorial gardens.
But maybe SL just isn't for you. Maybe you just aren't geeky enough. Maybe you should be giving us all some tips on what to do in Real Life to get us off our computer seats more and out into the fresh air???

Live as the opposite sex for a week??? Easier to do in SL than in RL. Been done to death, I know, but jolly good fun.

Join Bloodlines - that seems to be goal orientated (and before anyone berates me for this suggestion, I am actually joking!)

live music, dj's and art shows made me come back.. I seem to get hooked on renting, building and selling right way instead of laying back and enjoying this new reality.

today i stood on top of a building ledge taking pictures. but it was a place my RL mood wanted. even though it would have been nicer going surfing or something.

I like building stuff, especially large genitalia, cuz that is good for LOLz.

I also like to jump off tall buildings (or large genitalia) and splat on the ground.

But surprisingly, for an introvert, I have found that my favourite thing is meeting cool new people from everywhere on the planet. Especially girls.

Girls!!! This is where an inordinate amount of my time goes and probably why I never finish half of my projects.

Also I just discovered voicing (Why did nobody tell me about this before??? Well maybe cuz I hate telephones...).

Also I just got spanked by a stern lady for the first time which was both slightly humiliating and surprisingly erotic (Scylla can I get an 'ewww' up in here pls? lolz).

Even with all this excitement and boundary invading, sometimes ennui sets in and you gotta go run screaming through the rain in that buggy beta app...whatsitcalled... RL ;)

SL is what you decide to make it for you.
I am not going to make a whole big list of things that I do in SL that keeps me here, because well, you already listed most of them... so I would be telling you about stuff that bores you.

Maybe SL is not for you. No one will be mad if you decide it is not for you, happens all the time.

Do whatever it was you did before you discovered SL...

(edit)

oops did not notice it was an older post, ah well, comment will remain as it might fit for someone else in the same situation

I have managed to last over 5 years in SL but I can honestly say every year or 2 I got through a couple month slump of what the OP is probably calling boredom but I think of more as I just flat ran out of inspiration.

during those months I dont log in much except to visit with friends and family. I am usually getting reacquainted with RL or exploring another game.

It never fails something eventually clicks and I return to SL with new inspiration and more ideas than any 1 man can do.
