I've done the shopping bit.
I've done the building bit.
I've done the RP bit.
I've done the club bit.
I've done the modeling bit.

I'm bored.
What more is there to do in SL? What's something maybe slightly goal oriented or intellectually stimulating to do?

Well, you have to be self-directed and interested in something that can be done here, like creating machinima, making a business, role-playing, developing a game, and so on. It isn't for everyone, but it also may be that you will be suddenly struck by an idea. what are you interested in?

7 Seas Fishing was made for the bored in Second Life that do not want to log out. Look at my picks and teleport to the fishing spot listed there, get a fishing pole from the vendor on the dock and start chillaxin' and earning XP.

Don't worry, LL has thought about bored people, there is a special function that will help you.

In the client press your control key and then the Q key....

There, amazing isn't it? the level of detail, the way the trees sway in the wind, and it even has smells!

I believe that this is LL's secret weapon, they are calling it project RL. (but shhh don't tell anyone I told you about it, its just between us, ok?)

See how long it would take you to get banned from the forums and what exactly it would take.

Pep (Along the way, see if you can break the record for the number of people who put you on "ignore".)

I've done all those things too except the RP and I've been in SL 2 years longer than you, Topaz, and I rarely get bored even now. My advice would be to stay with SL, but step back a bit until a new inspiration comes along.

As a suggestion - how about learnng a new language in SL? You've got chat and voice to play with.

Also what about SL photography - explore lots of the most interesting places and take nice pics, possibly include yourself in them as a unique record. You could join Flickr (if you don't already) and display your SL pics on there.

I'm bored.
What more is there to do in SL? What's something maybe slightly goal oriented or intellectually stimulating to do?

I am involved in more goal-oriented and intellectually stimulating activities than I have time for including (not in any specific order):

I.

1. Taking classes, classes, and more classes
2. From doing number 1, I learned to build, texture, use particles, animations, etc., so....
3. ...began a small business with the skills learned in #1. Wasn't selling much/anything so...
4. Took classes on owning a business in SL and learned some marketing skills. Now my items are selling so I create more items, which results in needing to do photo shoots for ads, write the copy, send notices to groups and list in XStreet.

II.

1. Look through events for the type of activities/discussions/topics I like. From that I have gone to relaxation classes, found a sim that offers everything from Tai Chi (with soothing music playing) to guided meditations.
2. Have participated in the Friday night weekly discussions held in Etopia.
3. Became involved in a church of my choice in SL - more available discussions in addition to the services.
4. Learned how to play the ancient Japanese/Asian game of Go. (There is a sim specifically for Go players.) Began researching Go and found an online interactive website with people to play against. (There are Go boards set up in the sim, but not always someone to play with.) I spent months doing that; however, it is a very intricate game, somewhat akin to Chess, and it began hurting my head...lol.

III.

1. Took Spanish lessons that are an extension of a RL school and taught by people who have minimum of a Master's degree. My Spanish instructor holds a Ph.D. in linguistics.
2. From taking the class, I now have an interview ths week with the school to become an instructor and/or volunteer in their English school.

IV.

1. Purchased a VKC (Virtual Kennel Club) dog that has virtual intelligence and took it to a 6-week training class.
2. Explore SL on one of my horses.
3. Gone skydiving, tubing, swimming, 7 Seas fishing.

And I have a list twice this long of things in SL I still want to do such as:

*Look into the ballet company and perhaps become involved as a performer
*Attend performances at the Shakespearean theatre

It goes on and on.....whatever your interests, there is most likely a group or activity around it.

What about the travel bit?

The business bit? If you don't have something to sell, there are people who do and need a partner who can handle the business end of things.

The teaching/helping bit?

And you don't mention friends. Do you have a place where you just hang out and talk? Where random people stop by?

Last question - what would you do with your RL if you didn't have any constraints? Could you do that in SL?

.

I'm not suggesting you abandon SL, but why not join OpenSim as well, where you can see a parallel open source clone of SL being developed, with LL approval. You could even try to download and set up a standalone sim. That would certainly occupy your mind although you might end up by giving up!

Classes, classes, classes There are classes offered inworld on a wide range of topics. Learn new stuff, meet now people. :)

And given that you feel you have some experience, perhaps look into being an instructor. :)

Art galleries. Take in the amazing works of art SL residents have created.

Traveling. I don't know what your RL is like, but for me, I love traveling to builds of RL cities/places I've always wanted to see, as well as cities I have seen...just to reminisce or appreciate the building skills.

For me, SL is all about the people. I've enjoyed meeting folks from all over the globe. (well, haven't met anyone from the North pole, or Antarctica, but... :p )

And welcome to the forums! I see that was your very first post. :)

Apply to become a Linden. You probably know more about SL than most of them do.

First they came for all the shoppers, but I didn't speak up, for I wasn't a shopper.
Next they came for all the builders, but I didn't speak up, for I wasn't a builder
Next they came for all the Roleplayers, but I didn't speak up, for I wasn't a Roleplayer
Next they came for all the clubbers, but I didn't speak up, for I wasn't a clubber
Next they came for all the models, but I didn't speak up, for I wasn't a model.
There was nothing left to do, so no one ever came for me.

Fishing, exploring, meeting people and making new friends, exploring aspects of your personality you might not dare to do in the real world (or that might even be impossible for you in the real world), skydiving, building a thriving business...

Second Life is like real life, in that the "Goal" is what you set for yourself. It sin't a game, with a clear target like "rack up a million points, 3,000 gold pieces, and then knock off the Boss Monster and win!".

What would you like to do in real life, that might be impossible tere, but possible here?

Want to own a fancy beachfront condo, and go fishing and ride a jet ski all day?

What's your dream for a fun way to spend your time?

Name it, and seek it in SL.

Lots of great suggestions here, especially the ones recommending in-world learning and art.

Might I also suggest (cue the eye-rolling  ) that you might consider social or political activism in-world? There are groups for nearly every ideological taste and political party (I spent a lovely evening once dancing atop the information counter at the SL Republican Party Headquarters ... :D ).

Might I PARTICULARLY recommend E-Amnesty International, which is actually part of the RL organization, very active in SL, and working very hard indeed to have an impact in RL?

Scylla's post made me remember something - one of my best friends in RL is an Episcopal priest, and he took me to visit Epiphany Island, where there is lovely Anglican cathedral, and it's staffed like a brick-and-mortar church would be.

The specific example isn't important - my point is that there are religious and spiritual groups of every persuasion in SL, if that is your thing.
