Yeah, but is this one of those scams where you buy all the land without forking over any real cash first up hoping to offload it before abandoning the alt? And can they afford 20 sims worth at $1000US a plot? Then 10 sims worth of tier seeing it's half-space land. Hmn... that's a good question. Could people resell their land, essentially, before paying the auction off? _____________________

My hope now is that they'll see what a good idea it is to finish the mainland roads and waterways. That will create more demand for mainland lots, hopefully, and clean up the morass.

It really isn't the tier, but that you've paid 1000 USD for a sliver of land that is unproductive and they're going to take a loss. That's 200 months of $5 tier. 16.6 years! Even if you make the land productive and rent it out, it will take forever to earn that back, much less make a profit. It's a guaranteed loss. The only end users crazy enough to buy it are those that can throw that kind of money into buying an island for personal use. And most of those are smart enough to get 15000 prims instead of 400 or whatever for the same price.

I'm still having trouble understanding what makes land flippers think that anybody's going to be willing to pay more for a parcel than the land flipper paid, considering that the reason the land flipper won the auction AT ALL is precisely BECAUSE nobody was willing to pay more. What sort of logic are they using?

What sort of logic are they using? That putting ugly spinning for sale signs in the air will make people who want to use the area for its intended purpose pay for those parcels? No idea, it's absurd that they've gone on sale so quickly and the prices, they're just jaw dropping but who would pay those prices now when there are still plenty of auctions to run? |

I'm hesitant to buy now, even if a reasonably-priced parcel miraculously made it through the auction, because I don't want anyone to think I might have been one of the $1,000-for-what?!?! idiots.

Best way to not be seen as that, I tink? Actually use your land for its intended purpose. Mari _____________________

I'll be happy when they choke on the tier and have to abandon or take a huge loss. QFT! _____________________

I'm worried about buying there now as well, but not for the same reason. I worry that if I were lucky enough to win a parcel that my next door neighbor will be an ugly spinning sign. |

A much more community-friendly way of getting residents for the Bay City would have been a resident raffle. Price them all at 8M per meter and choose people randomly to take them. And make sure 30% of the ones chosen are under 30 days old (to replace the sadly scrapped first-land program). Hey, now THAT is a good idea! _____________________

Seems like a great price to me.
Perhaps I will go shop for a 2/3 square meter parcel. _____________________

One of the things that gets me about the Bay City land flippers is the complete absence of any sense of style, taste or class.
Here's a gathering in Docklands near some of the first parcels to come off the auction block. I'm behind the dragon, wearing a small round building and a For Sale sign ![]() Couture is moi! I iz in da fashun biznizz!! ![]() Those rotating "FOR SELL" (sic) signs are soooooo tacky. They have been joined by one of those classic(?) freebie for sale signs now. You know the one - a wooden oriental arch/gateway with flowers. Our World, Their Lack of Imagination. As someone mentioned earlier, people who buy new mainland sims to cut and resell are an essential link in the chain while LL hang back from selling sub-sim parcels directly. What we see in Bay City is unadulterated greedy opportunistic land-flipping. One would hope that nobody buys. The downside is that the unsold parcels would remain as blight. On the other hand, the blight parcels could be viewed as an art installation - a monument to stupidity and greed. Perhaps people could have regular meetups at these parcels wearing modified "FOR SELL" sic) signs that carry messages like "The sucker paid L$x for these y metres"._____________________

I also wanted to buy in Bay City. First I wanted something close to an infohub as a group of us were going to set up a newbie 'welcome wagon' type store. But even if I just wanted a plot of land for a house or a store, I can't afford the prices there now! There must be a lot of RICH players out there to be able to afford the auction prices. Probably will end up with dozens of mini-malls trying to rent out spaces to make up their money.
Why not take out a few lots and have a drawing or lottery...give us a chance to own some of Bay City!! Geesh! |

I had already built a really cool building for my business, and was working on another for a café. I suppose I shall have to look elsewhere. I don't want to live with the for sale signs, even if the price were reasonable.

At least well within theme -- but meh. _____________________

They wanted a well-designed community. Instead they get For Sale Signs:

Instead they get For Sale Signs: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v317/kullervo/Docklands.jpg lol, yeah ..who isnt gonna buy an average 900sqm parcel / US$500 or more? ..they gonna have a hard time earning their money back im sure, and to make it even harder on them selfs, they want people to buy land neighbouring their own NiCe rotating signs *since it was all experimental? , and turned to such a "succes" , wouldnt be suprised if they dump another dozen of such area's soon to be sure its affordable and not a 50-90% for sale area !? _____________________

/me too!! Though "splattered" was the word I was thinking. It's scary in Bay City! Any idea what a good software engineer or support person costs? Since when did LL have them?? |

Well, I'd say at this moment Bay City looks like epic fail, but I maintain hope for the road project on the mainland. Perhaps with roads and waterways cities will evolve naturally. Cities made of businesses and houses, rather than "FOR SELL" signs.
